"I'm sorry. I lost my temper just now." Evie calmed down and apologized.

"Evie, don't be like this." Alexander said, his voice full of pain.

She was pushing him away. It felt like a hole had been carved into his chest.

"We should keep some distance. I won't interfere in your life anymore. You don't have to worry about me either." Evie continued.

"Evie, please don't be mad."

"What else can I say when you're this angry with me?" Evie lifted her head and stared at him.

"I won't hide anything from you anymore. If I have a headache or a stomachache, I'll tell you right away." Alexander coaxed.

"You've said that before. I don't trust you anymore." Evie shook her head.

"Evie, honestly, I didn't know you suffered so much being with me. Over the years, I got used to saying no, especially at work. I listen to other people's objections, but in the end, I always stick to my own opinion. And it turns out I was right. As time went on, I got used to thinking from my own perspective. I brought that way of thinking into our marriage. I wanted to give you a better life and make you happy, but it backfired. I'm sorry. I never meant to hurt you. But I did hurt you."

"I don't want to hear it." Evie shook her head.

"I know. But I'm afraid if I don't say it now, I'll—"

"What are you talking about?" Evie cut him off immediately.

"I mean, if I don't say it now, maybe in a couple of days... Evie, could you call an ambulance for me?" Alexander replied with a weak smile.

The moment he finished speaking, his entire weight fell onto Evie. He had fainted. Evie staggered but caught him out of reflex.

She called for an ambulance and shouted for help.

When Alexander was brought to the hospital, his fever slowly went down. Evie sent the nurses back to work and sat down on the chair beside him, finally able to breathe.

The truth was, Alexander hadn't seen a doctor. He insisted on not being hospitalized. He still took medicine and got IV drips every day. There was an important meeting at the company today. He planned to go back to Sterling Manor for the IV after the meeting. He just didn't expect he wouldn't make it back. He collapsed right in front of Evie.

Now, lying unconscious on the hospital bed, he looked so infuriating. Evie wanted to punch him. How could he push himself like this, ignoring his high fever?

When Alexander woke up, his whole body ached. He opened his eyes and saw white everywhere. He was stunned for a second, then realized he was in the hospital.

"How do you feel now?" Evie saw him wake up and walked over.

"Not much strength. Everything else is fine. How long was I out?" Alexander replied.

"A few hours." Evie answered coldly.

Alexander looked at her and smiled. He knew she was still angry. He tried to sit up but had no strength.

Even though she was still mad, Evie bent down to help him up. But Alexander was completely limp. She was strong, but she lost her balance for a moment. She didn't help him up. Instead, she fell right onto his body.

Evie's face turned red instantly. She tried to stand up, but Alexander held her tight.

"Let go."

"No. Let me hold you for a while." He was being a rogue.

"Didn't you say you had no strength?" Evie asked, speechless.

He couldn't even sit up a moment ago, but now he had plenty of strength to hold her.

"Holding the woman I love is different."

"Let go." Evie patted him.

"Don't be mad, and I'll let go." Alexander bargained.

"Fine." Evie agreed.

Alexander let go. Evie walked away immediately.

"Didn't you say you weren't angry?" Alexander asked.

"Didn't anyone tell you women are fickle?" Evie shot back and walked toward the door.

"Baby, don't be mad." Alexander got out of bed directly. His movement was too sudden. He almost fell off the bed.

Evie was startled. She rushed over and caught him out of reflex.

"Can you stop causing me trouble?" Evie yelled.

Alexander had completely lost his temper.

"Don't be angry. I'll stop." He smiled.

"What do you want?"

"I don't want you to be angry."

"I'm so mad at you I could die."

"Spit that out. My wife will live a long life."

"I'm going to be your ex-wife."

"Not yet, right? Don't be angry. Getting angry makes you old."

"No matter how old I get, I'm still younger than you." Evie was still annoyed.

"Of course. That's why everyone says I'm lucky to have married you."

Evie rolled her eyes.

"Lie down. I'll get the doctor."

"Just ring the call bell." Alexander said.

"I want to go out for a walk."

"What if something happens to me while you're gone?"

Evie wanted to curse. She wanted to say that would be the best. But in the end, she just glared at him and reluctantly rang the call bell.

The doctor came and examined him. He said the fever had gone down, but there was still some noise in his lungs. The inflammation wasn't completely gone. He needed to stay in the hospital for a few more days.

"Thank you, doctor." Evie thanked him and walked him out.

She went back to the ward and couldn't help but glare at Alexander. He just looked back with an innocent expression.

Just then, there was a knock on the door.

Evie said, "Come in." She saw Lily Thompson walk in carrying things.

"Good evening, Mr. Sterling. Good evening, Mrs. Sterling." Lily greeted them and put the things on the tea table.

"Lily, what did you bring?" Alexander asked.

He was really hungry now. He wanted to eat the noodles Evie cooked. But she was still angry. If he asked her to cook noodles, she might boil him alive out of anger. He didn't expect Lily to show up.

"White porridge, as Mrs. Sterling asked me to make. And some small dishes." Lily answered.

"Porridge? I'm a patient, and you're feeding me porridge? You're being so cruel to your husband." Alexander looked at Evie pitifully.

"I thought you shouldn't even have porridge. After all, if you go to the company and look at your achievements, you should be satisfied." Evie teased.

Lily let out a small laugh, then quickly covered her mouth. But her eyes were full of laughter.

"Lily, there's nothing else here. You can go back now." Alexander coughed and waved his hand, looking embarrassed.
