“Well, if you ever need anything for Mr. Sterling or Miss Evie, just call me again,” Lily Thompson said.

Evie nodded at her, saw Lily out, told her to take her time going back, and then returned to the ward.

After Lily left, Alexander looked at Evie with pitiful eyes and said, “I want to eat your noodles.”

“There are no noodles, but there’s plenty of porridge,” Evie replied.

“Wife, I want your noodles,” Alexander insisted.

“Let’s just look at the plum to quench our thirst.”

“Then I’ll sleep. Maybe I can dream about it.” Alexander sighed, lay down in front of Evie, and pulled the covers over himself.

Evie glanced at him, got up, and walked toward the door.

“Evie, will you stay here with me?” Alexander begged pathetically.

Evie turned to look at Alexander, feeling a little sad.

All along, she had thought Alexander was a very strong man. But now he spoke to her in a pleading tone, hoping she would stay with him.

“I’ll buy some noodles and vegetables and make you noodle soup,” Evie explained, then bowed her head and walked out of the ward.

After Alexander heard Evie’s words, he almost jumped out of bed with excitement.

Besides being able to eat noodles cooked by Evie, the more important reason was that Evie had indirectly agreed to stay with him.

Evie went shopping. Alexander called his nephew, Ethan Sterling. As soon as the phone rang, he heard Ethan ask anxiously on the other end,

“Uncle, I heard you fainted. What’s going on now?”

“If you knew I fainted, why didn’t you come see me?” Alexander deliberately provoked.

“As soon as I got back to the company, I was about to call you when I heard the news. Uncle, which ward are you in now? I’ll come right now!”

“No, I just want to tell you something.”

“What’s the matter? I’ve been in the hospital for a few days, and you’re authorized to handle all the company’s affairs,” Alexander explained.

“Ah? That can’t be true!” Ethan refused instinctively.

“What can I do? Do I have to go back to work with my sick body while I’m in the hospital?” Alexander said angrily.

“You haven’t been like this all these days. I couldn’t persuade you before!” Ethan replied, a little speechless.

He had a bad cold a week ago, went to see a doctor, and still insisted on coming to work every day.

Now it was reasonable to say he was a patient.

“Those days were those days. Now is now,” Alexander replied shamelessly.

“What’s the difference now?”

“Now I have your aunt to take care of me.”

“Have you made up with Aunt Evie?” Ethan asked in surprise.

“Not yet. So this time, I’m seizing the opportunity. The company’s business is up to you. This time, you handle it.”

“When are you going to leave the hospital?”

“When I get your aunt back, I’ll be discharged.”

“If your aunt never comes back, are you going to live in the hospital for the rest of your life?” Ethan blurted out.

“Ethan, are you itching for trouble?” Alexander asked in a deep voice.

“No, no, I’m just assuming.”

“Then you’d better hope that assumption doesn’t come true, or you’ll be running Sterling Group in the future.”

“Don’t be so cruel!” Ethan wailed.

“I have more ruthless things. If you’re interested, you can find out,” Alexander responded softly.

“Ha ha, no. Uncle, you’re not feeling well. You’d better rest more, drink more water, and don’t worry about the company.” Ethan immediately backed down.

“Be good. Go to work,” Alexander said and hung up.

Ethan, on the other end of the phone, couldn’t help shivering, his hair standing on end.

His uncle had told him to be a good boy when he was three years old.

It was terrifying.

After Alexander made the call, he sat idly against the pillow.

Although his body was still uncomfortable, his mood was like March sunshine. Everything else could be ignored.

Evie soon bought some things from the supermarket. Although it was just a few items, it already filled two big bags.

Alexander’s ward was a small suite with a small kitchen.

After Evie bought the things back, she put them on the kitchen counter and turned to the ward to see Alexander.

“Wife, you’re back!” Alexander greeted her with a smile.

Evie saw that Alexander’s spirits were good, so she ignored him and turned to cook the noodles.

She didn’t expect that after a while, Alexander actually lifted his IV drip and came out of the ward.

“What are you doing?” Evie stared at Alexander and asked.

“I’m a little bored in there,” Alexander responded innocently.

“If you’re bored, just watch TV. Go back and lie down,” Evie said, not kindly.

“I promise to stay here quietly. It won’t affect your work.”

“You standing here breathing is already affecting me.”

“Then I’ll stop breathing!” Alexander finished and held his breath.

The next second, Evie stared at him.

“Go back and lie down, or eat porridge tonight. Choose one.”

“Then I’d better go back and lie down.” Alexander responded a little pitifully, sighed, turned, and entered the ward.

Evie looked at Alexander’s lonely figure and suddenly wanted to laugh. She couldn’t help but raise the corner of her mouth.

Before long, Evie cooked a pot of noodles.

The pot was the same one she had bought from the supermarket just now.

She entered the ward.

Then she helped Alexander set up the mobile dining table but didn’t rush to serve the noodles.

Instead, she went into the bathroom, wrung out a wet towel, and helped Alexander wipe his face and hands.

Alexander’s gaze never left Evie, and Evie treated Alexander as if he were invisible, not looking at him.

After cleaning Alexander, Evie helped him fill a bowl of noodles and placed it on the table, handing the chopsticks to Alexander.

“Wife, you’re the best!” Alexander said with a smile.

Evie still didn’t talk to him.

She took the towel into the bathroom to wash it, hung it up, and then came out to eat her porridge.

She was really hungry. After Alexander came to the hospital, she hadn’t even drunk water until now.

During that time, she had just called back to tell her mother and stayed by Alexander’s bedside.

She didn’t dare call her mother-in-law to say that Alexander was sick and hospitalized, afraid her mother-in-law would worry.

Evie thought of this, raised her head to look at Alexander, but met his gaze. Evie’s face was expressionless as she looked away.

“Evie, I haven’t eaten what you cooked in a long time.”

“Mm,” Evie answered lightly.

“When I was on a business trip, I always wanted to eat it. My dream was to sit around the table with you and eat your noodles.

When I woke up, I found it was a dream. That kind of feeling was really terrible,” Alexander said with emotion.
