"It's fine. I just wanted to let you know I need to rest." Evie replied, feeling awkward.

"Sleep. I'll watch over you right here."

"I mean, you should get some rest too. You haven't slept well lately. Now that you're back, you need to take care of yourself." Evie continued.

"Alright. You go to sleep first." Alexander said, leaning down to kiss her.

Evie instinctively turned her head away. Alexander froze for a second, but he didn't let it show. Instead, he pressed a kiss to her forehead and said,

"Good night."

"Good night." Evie answered, then walked toward the big bed.

She thought Alexander would head back to his own room after saying good night.

Instead, she saw him walking toward the bathroom.

Evie wanted to stop him, but she hesitated. She decided to wait until he finished his bath to talk.

Evie climbed into bed and lay down.

She had planned to wait for him to come out and speak with him again. But after lying there for a while, she fell asleep.

Maybe it was because there was no smell of disinfectant here. It was quiet, not noisy. It was a familiar environment. So Evie relaxed and drifted off quickly.

Lily had finished preparing the confinement meal. Alexander kept it warm. When Evie woke up, he would bring it up for her to eat. He told Lily to go rest early.

Lily nodded and went downstairs.

Alexander went back to the bedroom. He looked at Evie, who was in a deep sleep. He couldn't bring himself to wake her, even if she hadn't eaten dinner.

Sometimes, sleep was more important than food.

Alexander gently lifted a corner of the blanket and lay down beside Evie.

Evie mumbled a protest, as if annoyed that her sleep was disturbed.

Alexander moved more carefully, trying not to affect her.

After a while, Evie turned over and nestled into his arms.

Alexander put his arm around her waist. Her waist was too thin. A wave of depression washed over him.

In recent months, she had finally gained some weight from carrying the baby. But this time, the consumption and damage to her body weren't worth it. She had lost weight all at once.

But inside such a thin body, there was a stubborn and unyielding heart. He admired that, but sometimes he felt helpless.

Evie slept a very comfortable sleep. It felt like she could sleep forever. But in the end, she was awakened by hunger.

When she woke up, her stomach was growling.

She turned her head and saw Alexander lying on his side beside her.

Evie was stunned for a moment. She couldn't seem to react. Was this a dream or reality?

She hadn't slept with Alexander for a while. She had already decided to divorce him.

At this moment, suddenly seeing him lying beside her felt strange.

Evie moved her body, wanting to wake him up.

Alexander woke up and asked almost reflexively,

"Do you need to use the bathroom?"

"No. You sleep. I'll go downstairs and find something to eat." Evie had to answer.

"Wait. I'll bring it up." Alexander said.

"I'll do it myself." Evie quickly stopped him.

Alexander looked down at her.

"You sleep. You have to go to work tomorrow. Anyway, I have nothing to do tomorrow. I can keep catching up on sleep." Evie explained awkwardly.

After that, she had to get out of bed to look for food.

"Don't bother." Alexander grabbed her and went downstairs to bring things to her.

Evie had to go to the bathroom to wash up and wait to eat.

So in the early morning, before dawn, Evie was eating on the sofa with a bowl.

Alexander sat with her.

"What is this?" Evie asked after a few sips of soup.

"Wolfberry stewed pigeon." Alexander answered.

"Oh. I prefer ginger stewed pigeon. Even though it's light, the soup is very good." Evie muttered.

"It's too late to stew a pigeon with ginger tomorrow." She asked.

"No." Alexander smiled.

"You can eat with me. I can't finish it by myself."

"Eat slowly." Alexander said.

"I still can't finish it. You eat with me." Evie begged.

"Eat it. You can't finish it."

Evie finally encouraged Alexander to help her eat half of it.

"It would be perfect to have a pot of rice wine now." Evie couldn't help feeling.

"You think too much." Alexander raised his eyes and smiled at her.

"Don't you think it's a very happy thing to eat delicious food and drink wine in the middle of the night?"

"No."

"No romantic cells." Evie complained.

Then she continued to eat her pigeon and wolfberry soup.

She had always thought that she and Alexander were more suitable to be friends than lovers. At this moment, she felt the same. She needed to be more suitable to be friends with him. Just like now, she was relaxed and chatting. She didn't have to think too much. She was very happy.

After eating, Evie wanted to go to bed, even though it was already dawn.

But now, if she wanted to sleep, she couldn't kick Alexander out of the master bedroom, could she?

She had to say to Alexander with a stiff head,

"Go to sleep. I've just eaten enough. I can't sleep."

"Okay." Alexander answered and didn't move.

"You still have to go to work. Go to sleep now."

"I can't sleep. I'll just lie down for a while."

Evie looked at Alexander in frustration. After a while, she couldn't help sighing and said in frustration,

"Alexander, you know we're impossible."

"There are no two people better suited to be together than us." Alexander responded calmly.

Evie stared at Alexander. Alexander quietly met her gaze.

"Where are we suitable?" Evie answered depressed.

"You have a bad temper. I have a good temper. I can tolerate your temper." Alexander responded.

Evie suddenly felt a surge of irritation.

"I don't want your tolerance."

"I need you very much." Alexander stared at Evie.

"..."

Evie felt a sense of powerlessness. She wanted to fight with someone, but the other party was mute and couldn't fight at all.

Evie, looking frustrated, got up and walked away from the sofa. She didn't want to talk to Alexander anymore.

Alexander didn't force her. He went to the bathroom to clean up and wash his hands.

While Alexander was washing his hands, Evie left the bedroom and went downstairs to check on the baby.

The night nurse heard the sound and woke up.

"It's okay. I'll look at the baby. You can sleep." Evie said.

"The baby just changed his diaper and fell asleep. It's estimated that he can sleep until dawn." The nurse answered.

Evie nodded. She didn't take her eyes off the baby. He was sleeping sweetly.

Standing here quietly and looking at the baby was also a great comfort to Evie.
