"Are you on my side or Aiden's, you big traitor?" Victoria glared at Evie.
"I'm not on anyone's side. I'm neutral, and I'm stating facts.
It really was your fault today. Mia is his sister. Isn't it normal for him to go shopping with his sister?
And you made such a huge scene, acting like you were catching a cheater. If I hadn't insisted on coming with you today, who knows what kind of trouble you would have caused!" Evie retorted.
Victoria stared at Evie. Finally, she could only mumble a weak defense.
"How was I supposed to know she was his sister? She doesn't look like him at all!"
"That's exactly why I said you're too impulsive. You need to get the facts straight first.
You have this kind of personality. You really need to learn to control it. You're just dating now.
If you're still like this after you get married, Aiden will be driven crazy!" Evie said.
"I don't have to marry him!" Victoria snapped.
"Sis, see, there you go again with the impulsive talk! Forget it, you're in no state to drive. I'll call the driver to pick us up!" Evie said with a sigh.
"No need. I'm feeling down anyway. Let me take you out for something good to eat!" Victoria pressed Evie's hand down and replied.
"You're paying!" Evie seized the chance to get a free meal.
"Fine, whatever you want!"
"Slow down the car!"
"This is already a snail's pace. What more do you want?" Victoria shot back angrily.
"See, you're getting worked up again!"
"..."
It all ended in a farce. Evie had originally wanted Aiden to send Victoria home so they could talk things out. But then she thought about it—with Victoria's hot temper, she might be too embarrassed to admit she was wrong now, and it might just make her angrier.
She figured it was better to let her sister cool down first. They could communicate properly when they were both calmer.
So she made an excuse and took her sister home first.
Right now, the two of them were sitting in a tea restaurant, having breakfast.
Evie unceremoniously ordered a pile of her favorite food.
"You ordered so much. Can you even finish it?"
"If I can't, I'll pack it up!" Evie replied without a hint of shame.
"What kind of attitude is that? You're trying to rip me off!"
"Yep, yep. What are you going to do about it? Bite me?"
"Childish!"
"Better than being impulsive!"
"..."
In the end, Victoria was annoyed into silence by Evie.
Evie's phone rang. She wiped her hands with a tissue, took the phone out of her bag, and answered it.
"Alexander—"
Evie lowered her head, eating angrily and thinking bitterly.
It must be nice to have a husband!
It's too much, showing off their love like that!
Sigh, I kind of miss Aiden. What should I do? I knew I shouldn't have been so impulsive!
Evie didn't move away. Right in front of her sister, she continued the call.
"I'm having breakfast with my sister outside!"
"You're up so early today!" Alexander said with a smile on the other end.
"Yeah, the early bird catches the worm! Are you on your way to work?" Evie giggled.
"On my way to the company. After breakfast, let Victoria take you around for a bit. Don't run off anywhere!" Alexander instructed.
"I know. I've got a bun in the oven. I can't run anywhere! Have you had breakfast?"
"Yes."
"Eat more. If you come back from your business trip looking skinny, I'll be mad!" Evie warned.
Alexander on the other end was stunned for a moment. He thought her way of speaking had suddenly changed. She didn't usually talk like this!
"Are you saying that on purpose for Victoria to hear?" Alexander asked with a smile.
"Yes!" Evie didn't deny it.
"No wonder your tone changed!"
"Haha, you know me best, honey!" Evie said, acting coy.
Sitting across from her, Victoria got goosebumps listening to Evie.
Evie talked on the phone for a long time before hanging up with a reluctant look.
Then she let out a sigh.
"Ugh, even when Alexander is on a business trip, he doesn't trust me!" Victoria said, unable to bear it anymore.
"No, he does. But why can't we show a little love?" Evie said with a smile. "Sis, let me tell you, love and marriage are the same. They both need to be managed.
Look at Alexander and me. We didn't know each other before we got married. Now look at us. We have a great relationship!"
"That's because you met a good man!" Victoria rolled her eyes.
"A good man also needs a woman who knows how to cherish him!" Evie replied righteously. "When did you become so full of yourself!"
"I'm just telling you the truth. Alexander might not be like this if he were with someone else!" Evie replied triumphantly.
"That's true!" Victoria admitted.
"So you can't keep treating Aiden like this all the time. You walk around with your nose in the air, like a queen.
Everyone has self-esteem. Even if Aiden loves you, he can't stand you being so arrogant and suspicious all the time!
You're always making a mountain out of a molehill!"
"What are you talking about?" Victoria glared at Evie.
Evie continued with a smile.
"Sis, I'm your own sister. No matter how direct or unpleasant I sound, it's for your own good.
At the end of the day, I speak up for Aiden because he's my sister's boyfriend. If he had nothing to do with you, I wouldn't care what he was like!
Of course, he also needs to treat you well. That's why I want to say good things for him. If he didn't treat you well, I'd be the first to tell you to kick him to the curb!"
"I know, I know. You're getting older and older, and more and more long-winded!" Victoria complained.
But deep down, she took Evie's words to heart.
Evie hadn't come out for breakfast with her sister just to eat her food. She wanted to find a place to have a good talk with her.
No matter what happened between her and Aiden, as long as her sister was okay, she didn't care about the rest.
After breakfast, Evie went straight to work.
Unsurprisingly, she was late again today. More than an hour late.
She couldn't find any excuse to ask for leave, even if she did have things to do today.
She apologized to Amy, but honestly, she had already put in for personal leave on the system. She was just waiting for the money to be deducted.
Sigh, this was also a major reason why she liked working but still had to resign.
In the Sterling family, as Mrs. Sterling, she had to set an example!
What would other employees think if the boss's wife was late every day!
After work in the evening, Evie looked back at home as she got out of the car and walked towards Sterling Manor.
She ran into Alexander's third sister, Scarlett.
"Third sister—" Evie called out politely.
"Oh, Evie. Just got off work?" Scarlett turned her head and smiled.
"Yes, just finished. Third sister, you just got off work too?" Evie nodded.
"No, I took the day off today. Didn't go to work."
"What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?" Evie asked with concern.
"Nothing. Just had something to take care of." Scarlett shook her head.
