Chapter 319

Victoria had felt it for a while now. Aiden was always busy. After work, he’d go to the coffee shop across from his office and just sit there. So she followed him. Just as she suspected, she saw him getting close with some woman. He even took her shopping for clothes.

“Maybe it’s his sister,” Evie said hesitantly.

“They don’t look alike at all. How could she be his sister? Do you think I’m blind?” Victoria shot back.

“Did you ask Aiden what was going on?” Evie pressed.

“What’s there to ask? I’ll just run into them by chance. Then I’ll dump that shameless jerk on the spot!”

“Sis, don’t be so impulsive. Maybe it’s not what you think.”

“I’m not thinking anything. The facts are the facts. And here I was, holding out so much hope for him, giving him a chance. And this is how he treats me. Men are all the same. No good!” Victoria fumed.

Evie was speechless. One bad apple really did spoil the whole bunch.

She tried to calm Victoria down, but it was useless. Instead, Victoria announced she was going to Aiden’s apartment first thing in the morning to catch him red-handed.

Worried about what might happen, Evie said she’d go with her.

“What would a pregnant woman like you do there? What if you get all worked up?” Victoria glared at her.

“Sis, I’m not hot-headed. I won’t get worked up. I’ll just go with you and keep an eye on things,” Evie insisted.

Victoria gave her a look. “Fine. But you stay behind me. If anything goes wrong, you run, got it?”

Evie just sighed. Her sister was acting like this was a police movie.

That evening, Evie did her best to calm Victoria down, hoping she wouldn’t do anything stupid.

The next morning, Victoria was ready to catch the cheater. Evie had barely slept, so she was up early too. The moment she stepped out of the bedroom, she saw Victoria already dressed to leave.

“Sis, you’re going now?” Evie asked, surprised.

“If I don’t go early, how am I supposed to catch him?” Victoria replied, her voice full of determination.

“Alright, wait for me. I’ll come with you.”

“Are you sure you want to come? You don’t have to.”

“I’m coming. Just wait for me,” Evie said, turning back to grab her bag.

Without even having breakfast, the two sisters headed straight for Aiden’s apartment.

At the door, Victoria rang the bell. A woman’s voice came from inside. “Who is it?”

Victoria answered, “I’m from upstairs. Your clothes fell onto my balcony.”

The moment the door opened, Victoria barged right in.

“Hey! Hey! Who are you?” the woman stammered, startled.

Victoria kicked open the bedroom door. Aiden was still in bed. He sat up, looking confused. “Victoria? What are you doing here?”

“If I didn’t come, how would I get to see the show?” Victoria sneered, her fists clenched.

“What show?” Aiden asked, getting out of bed.

“Brother, who is she?” Mia was clearly scared, her voice trembling.

“Brother?” Victoria turned to look at Mia, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “So you’re his sister?”

Evie pulled Victoria back and whispered, “Sis, you might really have this wrong.”

What happened next was nothing like Victoria had planned. She had imagined catching him in the act, slapping him, breaking up with him, and never speaking to him again.

But the truth was, Mia was Aiden’s sister. Not his biological sister, but the adopted daughter of the Fisher family. She was technically his cousin, but they grew up together. It was complicated, but the bottom line was, she was family.

She had just come to visit, and Aiden had been taking time off to show her around.

How embarrassing.

Evie had to step in and smooth things over. She explained that she and Victoria were on their way to breakfast, just happened to be passing by, and decided to drop in. When they heard a woman’s voice, Victoria just jumped to conclusions.

She had never told so many lies in her life.

Aiden was kind and patient. He didn’t get angry. Instead, he asked Mia to get them some water and fruit.

Victoria was so mortified, she wished the ground would swallow her up.

“Sis, I’m feeling a bit unwell. Can you take me home?” Evie said, giving Victoria an out.

Victoria immediately looked worried. “What’s wrong? I told you not to come. Let’s go to the hospital.”

“It’s nothing serious. Just a little uncomfortable,” Evie said, feeling awkward.

“Mrs. Sterling, let me drive you both back. Victoria drove here, and I’m not sure she’s in the right state of mind,” Aiden offered. He then told Mia to make her own breakfast, saying he’d be back later.

Mia nodded obediently.

“We don’t need you!” Victoria snapped.

“Sis—” Evie held her arm, then turned to Aiden apologetically. “I’m sorry, Aiden. My sister has a bit of a temper. She didn’t mean anything by it. I’ll call my driver to come get us.”

She then turned to Mia. “Mia, you should come over to my place with your brother sometime.”

“Okay, Evie!” Mia smiled and nodded.

“Aiden, I’ll take my sister home now. Bye!” Evie said, pulling Victoria out of the apartment.

Aiden followed them out anyway.

“Aiden, you don’t need to see us off. Mia just got here, and she doesn’t know the area well. You should stay with her. We’ll be fine.”

“Take care, Evie. Sorry for the trouble,” Aiden said, glancing at Victoria.

“No trouble at all,” Evie replied with a smile, understanding what he meant.

She then led her sister downstairs.

Once they were in the car, Victoria grumbled, “Didn’t you say you were calling the driver?”

“How could I call the driver? That was just an excuse. Sis, you were way too impulsive this time. You completely misunderstood Aiden,” Evie said.

“I still think something’s not right,” Victoria muttered.

“Sis, you’re suffering from anxiety. It’s a love syndrome. You care about Aiden too much. You’re afraid someone will take him away, so you’ve become paranoid,” Evie explained.

“That’s ridiculous. He’s the one who chased me.”

“Even if he chased you, you had to like him back to agree to date him. Sis, you really need to apologize to Aiden. You can’t make a mistake like this again,” Evie continued.
