Chapter 265

“How could I have said that?” Evie stammered, her face pale.

“You didn’t? Then why did you hand the phone to your classmate in the middle of our call?” Alexander pressed.

“Me?” Evie stared at him in shock. After a moment, she realized he might be right.

When she’d answered his call, her head had been spinning. She hadn’t thought clearly. She’d just handed the phone to Emily, thinking Emily could speak more coherently.

But Emily knew nothing about her relationship with Alexander!

At the time, she’d thought Emily was just a mirror of her own drunken self.

Evie looked at Alexander, on the verge of tears.

“Did Emily and the others say anything?”

“What do you think they would say?” Alexander asked.

“They must have asked who you were, right? They wouldn’t just hand me over without a word!” Evie asked, horrified.

What if it had been a criminal? They would have pushed her straight into an abyss!

“Did they need to ask? The moment you saw me, you told your classmate—‘My husband is here to pick me up!’ What else was there to ask?” Alexander looked at her, raising an eyebrow.

Actually, Evie had said “Alexander is here to pick me up,” not “my husband.” But Alexander didn’t mind polishing the sentence a little.

“I really said that?” Evie was stunned.

She wanted to die.

She had been hiding her relationship with Alexander all this time. She never even mentioned being married.

But tonight, after drinking too much, she couldn’t tell north from south. She blurted out everything she shouldn’t have.

Emily and the others were probably planning how to interrogate her right now.

She wished she could be an ostrich and bury her head in the sand.

“If you want the details, you can call your classmates and ask,” Alexander continued.

“No!” Evie shook her head firmly.

She wasn’t about to feed their gossip.

She wanted to hide as far away as possible.

“Evie, since you’ve chosen to reveal our relationship, I don’t want to pretend you don’t know me anymore,” Alexander teased.

Evie looked up at him, wanting to cry.

“Alexander, what if they ask about Ethan?” Evie asked.

“What do you need to explain?” Alexander asked.

“About me being with you!”

“We’re married. Are we supposed to live in two separate houses?”

“No, but they don’t know we’re married!”

“Just tell them we’re married. Problem solved.”

“Emily will skin me alive!” Evie replied bitterly.

“Don’t worry. Once she knows, she won’t dare touch you.”

“Why?” Evie looked at him curiously.

“Because she’ll know you’re the CEO’s wife. How could she dare?” Alexander smiled directly at her.

“…” Evie was speechless.

That joke was so cold.

Her favorite chicken noodle soup suddenly tasted bland.

It seemed Alexander was right.

You shouldn’t drink when you go out. Drinking only makes things worse.

“Take it as it comes. Your classmates would have found out sooner or later. Now that it’s out, let it be,” Alexander comforted her.

Evie nodded. There was nothing else she could do.

She sighed again.

Alexander held back a smile, took her bowl, refilled it, and handed it back. “Don’t think about it. Just eat.”

“Oh,” Evie replied, taking the bowl and continuing to eat.

After a long while, she seemed to be in a better mood.

As Alexander said, what’s done is done.

She had to let it go.

Besides, she was about to graduate anyway. Her relationship with Alexander would have to be made public sooner or later.

At least she was giving her classmates some juicy gossip before the graduation ceremony.

Alexander went into the bedroom to take a shower. Evie sat on the living room sofa, motionless. She had eaten too much and could only wait to digest before sleeping.

Alexander came out of the bathroom after his shower. Evie went in to brush her teeth and wash her face, ready for bed.

After washing up, she sighed. “Looks like I’ll have trouble sleeping again tonight.”

Alexander looked at her with a smile. “Are you that afraid of our relationship becoming public?”

“No, I just wasn’t mentally prepared yet,” Evie looked up at him, embarrassed.

“Six months of preparation isn’t enough?” Alexander said with a smile.

Evie looked at him and had to admit he had been patient with her.

In the blink of an eye, they had been married for over six months.

“I’m not afraid of people knowing we’re together. I’m just afraid of what they’ll say. There’s a guy in our class who plans to marry his girlfriend after graduation. Everyone’s been talking about it nonstop,” Evie muttered, looking down.

“Think about it differently. Maybe they’re talking about him because they’re jealous. Some people don’t even have a girlfriend, and he’s already ready to get married.”

Evie looked at Alexander and laughed. “I thought I was the one with the ‘Ah Q’ spirit. I didn’t expect you to have it too.”

“Take a step back, and the horizon broadens. It saves you from unnecessary trouble,” Alexander raised an eyebrow.

“You’re right. When you look at it that way, it’s nothing. We just got married. It’s not like we did anything sneaky,” Evie comforted herself.

“The child can be taught,” Alexander encouraged.

“If my classmates ask me why I got married so early, how should I answer?” Evie climbed into bed and turned to Alexander.

“Tell them your husband was afraid you’d be stolen away, so he had to hurry up and marry you to keep you safe,” Alexander said jokingly.

“I’m being serious!” Evie protested.

“I’m answering your question very seriously. If someone really asks, tell them your husband is old and anxious to get married, and you’ve just reached the legal age,” Alexander smiled.

Evie looked at him and couldn’t help laughing.

“I knew you were holding a grudge!”

“Where am I holding a grudge?” Alexander asked with a smile.

“You always remember that I said you were old. Don’t you remember holding a grudge?” Evie laughed, trying to hide.

“What expression is that?” Alexander said, continuing to tease.

“Ha ha, no, no—stop!” Evie begged for mercy, laughing.

“Does your husband hold a grudge?” Alexander asked.

“No, ha ha, no grudge. Not at all!” Evie answered without principle.

“If someone asks why we got married so early, how will you answer?” Alexander continued.

“Because we love each other,” Evie blurted out.
