Chapter 20

"Don't worry, Mr. Sterling is a big shot. He'll admit his mistake!"

"Besides, no one else is going to register with you. You have no chance of mistaking him for someone else!" Amelia poured cold water on that idea.

A car from the Sterling family arrived to pick up Evie.

It just so happened that Evie was ready to head downstairs.

Amelia walked Evie down, saying how thoughtful the Sterlings were. They even sent a car for the bride-to-be.

Evie kept her eyes on the stairs, not paying attention to her mother's words.

Then she realized she hadn't had breakfast yet.

Evie got into the black car waiting in front of her.

Amelia and William got into another car.

Victoria didn't join them. After helping Evie with her makeup, she said to her,

"Evie, if you had a choice, I really wouldn't want you to get married like this."

For Victoria, this marriage was unequal from the start. But they had no choice.

Evie comforted her sister in return.

The Vance family first went to a law firm to sign a postnuptial agreement and a premarital property agreement. Then they headed to the City Hall to register the marriage.

As the primary heir of the Sterling family, Alexander controlled most of the company's equity and assets.

If they didn't sign these agreements, a divorce would mean splitting the property.

The Sterling family would never allow an outsider to take a share of their wealth, especially the company shares. Alimony was a different matter.

Alexander wasn't there. Only the Sterling family's lawyer and a notary were present.

The lawyer explained every clause to Evie in detail. Then he asked if she understood.

Evie nodded and signed the documents.

To her, she never wanted anything that wasn't hers.

William's face was grim. He looked at his youngest daughter with guilt in his eyes.

He felt he had not only sold her off but also humiliated her in this shameless way.

He never thought about getting any property from the Sterlings. As long as his daughter was happy in her marriage, that was enough.

As for the ten million the Sterlings had given him, he would pay it back someday.

He was just borrowing it, not taking it.

He still had that principle.

After signing, Evie walked out of the law firm.

"Evie, it's Dad. I'm sorry," William said, finding a moment to whisper to his daughter.

Evie turned her head and smiled to comfort him.

"Dad, it's fine. It's not our stuff, and we don't want it."

William nodded. He never realized his youngest daughter was so noble and wise.

In the past, he had always favored his eldest daughter. She was beautiful and talented.

Everywhere he took Victoria, she was praised.

But his younger daughter was more low-key. Her personality wasn't as flashy, and she always seemed a bit slow. She gave people the impression of being a little silly.

So all this time, he had neglected her.

Now, it was this humble little girl who had truly helped him.

William couldn't help but sigh. It was all his fault that the family had ended up like this.

After leaving the law firm, they went straight to the City Hall.

When Evie arrived, Alexander hadn't shown up yet.

Eleanor's face was a bit stiff, but she still smiled. She greeted the Vance family with noble grace.

Even the usually careless Amelia was reserved in front of Eleanor.

"I'm sorry I'm late."

A calm, clear voice, with a hint of coolness, came from the doorway.
