Eleanor Sterling turned around and glared at her youngest son, Alexander.
Alexander, dressed in a sharp formal suit, looked innocent. After explaining the traffic jam to his mother, he shook hands with William Vance and greeted his wife.
“You go register with Evie first, then we’ll all go to dinner to celebrate!” After greeting them, Eleanor explained to her son.
Evie, who had been standing beside her mother, looked up at Alexander.
Well, she hadn’t seen him clearly at all. She only knew he was wearing a dark suit and looked very tall.
She thought of King Kong the ape!
She almost laughed out loud. She quickly lowered her head to hide it, so she vaguely saw he was wearing smoke-gray trousers and smoke-gray shoes.
“Evie, right? I’m Alexander Sterling!” Alexander looked down at the person in front of him, who was more than a head shorter. She was still looking down now, just like a child who had made a mistake in front of him. After a silent smile, he introduced himself.
“Hello! I’m Evie Vance,” Evie answered in a low voice.
She thought Alexander’s voice was very pleasant, low and magnetic. But she liked his voice.
Actually, she didn’t like overly soft voices. A low, strong voice like his felt more attractive to her.
Sure enough, high-quality men were either married or gay.
Alas, it was a pity that when they first met, it was time to register their marriage. Few people would believe it!
But reality was so cruel!
Evie didn’t know they had met once before.
Evie kept her head down. Others thought she was shy, but only she knew the truth. She was afraid she would laugh if she looked up.
“May I go in now?” Alexander asked politely.
Evie nodded.
Alexander reached out and held Evie’s hand. Evie was stunned for a moment, but she didn’t pull away. She entered the marriage registry with Alexander.
Taking photos, swearing, signing, and stamping with a steel seal. Each process made Evie feel like she was in a daze.
At the moment she picked up the pen to sign, Evie actually resisted in her heart. But in the end, she signed her name, Evie Vance.
I hope the result won’t be too bad!
She comforted herself in her heart.
After getting the marriage certificate, before they walked out of the registration room, Alexander said,
“I have a meeting later. Let the driver take you back.
I’ll pick you up for dinner in the evening.”
“Maybe not tonight. I have classes in the evening!” Evie answered quickly.
“Another day then. What’s your mobile number?” Alexander asked.
Evie almost laughed. This person was her husband in law, but he didn’t even know her mobile phone number.
Evie reported her mobile phone number. Alexander saved it, then dialed back and said,
“This is my mobile phone number. Call me when you’re free!”
“Good!” Evie answered in a low voice.
The two of them just walked out of the marriage registration room.
At that moment, Alexander answered a phone call and apologized to his mother and Evie’s family.
He said there was something urgent at the company, so he needed to go back to the office.
The restaurant had already made a reservation.
He would send them to dinner first, and then he would go there after he had handled the matter.
In the end, of course, he didn’t show up at the table.
During the dinner, Eleanor talked with William and Amelia about the upcoming wedding. During this time, she didn’t neglect Evie and asked for her opinions from time to time.
Evie didn’t know anything. She said it was up to them to decide.
Eleanor said with a smile, this was her wedding with Alexander, so of course, she needed to be satisfied.
After meeting for a long time, Eleanor gave Evie a jade bracelet.
Evie politely refused. Eleanor said it was originally a pair. One was given to her eldest daughter-in-law, and the other was only given to her. She told Evie to wear it directly.
It was hard for Evie to refuse. Eleanor asked Chloe to help Evie put on the jade bracelet.
After wearing it, it fit perfectly.
Moreover, Evie’s skin was fair. Wearing this jade bracelet complemented each other. It didn’t look old at all. On the contrary, it added a bit of noble spirit.
“How beautiful. Evie was born to be our daughter-in-law,” Eleanor said with a smile, looking very satisfied.
Although Evie thought it was beautiful, she always thought it was valuable. But she couldn’t refuse it.
She could only thank Eleanor.
“Now you call me Mrs. Sterling! It’s time to change that,” Eleanor said with a smile.
“Yes, it’s time to call her Mom!” Amelia echoed.
Evie blushed, but she still insisted on calling her mother!
Eleanor answered happily.
Although Alexander was not present at the dinner, under Eleanor’s chairmanship, they had a good time.
The wedding was scheduled for two months, a great day.
Although it was a bit rushed, there was still time to prepare. After all, Eleanor had been looking forward to her youngest son’s marriage all these years.
Of course, the Vance family had no opinions.
They had already registered for marriage. The next wedding was just to support the scene.
With the Sterling family, the wedding would not be a disgrace for Evie.
Besides, for William at the moment, a grand wedding was not as real as his daughter’s future happiness.
After all, he felt guilty for his little daughter.
Evie seemed a lot calmer.
On one hand, it was because she wasn’t wearing glasses, and everything she saw was very blurry. On the other hand, it was a foregone conclusion. Thinking too much just added to her troubles.
The only impression she had of Alexander was the warmth in his palm and his tall, fuzzy figure.
After lunch, Evie followed her parents back home.
Along the way, Amelia talked about Alexander, boasting that he was very good-looking, polite, and generous. She said he was in charge of the Sterling Group, and her daughter would be happy to marry him.
Evie listened calmly, but there was no special emotion. After all, she had no deep impression of her husband who had become a legal husband.
Back home, after removing her makeup, changing back into her own clothes, and putting on her glasses, Evie was ready to go back to school.
She had asked for leave in the morning to register, and there were classes in the afternoon!
“Evie, Dad is sorry for you!” William apologized to Evie again.
“Dad, don’t say that. It’s what I wanted!” Evie answered with a smile.
“It won’t hurt Evie!
Don’t you see Alexander’s talent?
And he runs such a big company.
I’m sure he will make Evie happy,” Amelia comforted him.
With a sigh, William instructed Evie to go back to school and study hard. He told her to call him when she had no money.
Evie nodded and agreed. Then she said goodbye to her parents and walked out of the house.
Back at school, she went to the dormitory downstairs. She met Emily, who had just come back from class.
“Evie, why did you ask for leave this morning?” Emily asked with concern.
“I had to ask for leave this morning, so I couldn’t come home!” Evie explained.
“Is it all settled now?”
“It’s settled!” Evie nodded.
“That’s good. This morning, I thought something had happened to your family.”
“No, I forgot to tell you when I went home yesterday. I thought I had forgotten to ask for leave this morning, so I had to call you temporarily. Now that it’s all settled, I’ll go back to school,” Evie explained.
“Have you solved your family’s economic crisis?” Emily asked again.
“It’s settled!” Evie nodded.
She and Alexander had registered for marriage. Next, the Sterling family would help her father’s company tide over the difficulties. So she didn’t have to worry about her family going bankrupt. Her family wouldn’t have to go to the streets to drink, at least not for the time being.
“That’s good!” Emily nodded and answered.
After a while, she thought of another important thing, so she informed Evie, “By the way, next week, our school’s anniversary. There will be a talent competition.
The whole class voted unanimously. You represent our class in the competition.”
“Ah? What talent can I compete in?” Evie stopped and looked at Emily in dismay.
“Whatever you want. If you can’t, just go up and sing a song. Anyway, if you’re eliminated from the preliminary contest, you won’t have anything to do next!” Emily replied with a smile.
“It’s very unkind of you to choose me to take part in the competition when I ask for leave.
This represents the honor of the whole class. It’s too short of you to choose me as a person with no special skills!” Evie protested.
“It’s just because you don’t have any special skills that you appear to have a comprehensive and balanced development.
The whole class unanimously recommends you to go.
If you can’t pass the preliminary, it’s normal.
If you accidentally pass the preliminary, enter the second round or even the final, etc.
That shows that the talent of our class is on the horizontal line.
So it’s up to you!” Emily patted Evie on the shoulder and encouraged her.
Evie was speechless.
Was that okay?
Was this a double whammy!
She had just ended her single status today, but she hadn’t even seen what the other person looked like.
Then as soon as she got back to school, she was informed that she, who had no talent, would participate in the talent competition on behalf of her class.
Was there anyone more pathetic than her?
Back in the dormitory, Evie went to the balcony to wash her face. She prepared for a nap, and she had class in the afternoon.
Although she was depressed about being inexplicably selected to participate in the class art competition, since it had become a fact, being depressed was useless. She could only accept it.
Evie had such an optimistic attitude.
Evie came in after washing her face. Emily turned around and was just about to say something to her when she saw the jade bracelet on her wrist.
“Wow, when did you buy it? It’s so beautiful!”
“What?” Evie looked at Emily, puzzled.
“The jade bracelet!” Emily raised her hand and said.
“Oh, one from relatives!” Evie just looked at the jade bracelet she was wearing and had to answer vaguely.
She had almost forgotten she was wearing such valuable jewelry!
Before going out at noon, she should have taken it off and kept it at home.
“It’s beautiful. It suits you!” Emily boasted.
“I also think it’s pretty, but I’m afraid of breaking it. I’ll wear it for two days and put it away.”
“It’s OK. Wear it for two more days. Let me enjoy it. Come here, let me have a look. I haven’t seen such a green jade bracelet yet.”
“When did you study jade?” Evie walked over with a smile and asked.
“I’ve been doing research, but I can’t afford it!” Emily looked at the jade bracelet for a long time, then looked up at Evie in surprise. “Evie, who sent you such a valuable thing?”
“A relative!”
“I don’t know if it’s A-type. If it is, this jade bracelet is very valuable.”
“How can you exaggerate that?” Evie could not help but laugh.
