Chapter 19

Evie nodded, pretending she knew nothing.

She figured that if this were a typical angsty romance, Alexander wouldn't bring home different women to torment her. He'd bring home different men instead.

Well, she didn't seem bothered by that either.

Besides, Alexander only liked men. He wouldn't touch her. So she had no chance of getting pregnant and running off with the baby.

It looked like the angsty romance route wasn't for her.

But the sweet romance route seemed even less likely.

Sigh. Basically, her marriage to Alexander was some kind of freak accident.

"Why are you asking all of a sudden?" Evie replied with a careless look. "No, you don't really think I'd marry to save my dad, do you?"

"Haha, it's nothing like that yet!"

She didn't have the courage to tell Emily that she was already married. And that she was about to register it with a guy whose face she barely knew.

"Honestly, I don't think it would be so bad if there was a good man," Emily said. "People can meet good men on blind dates. I'm just afraid you'll end up with a scumbag. That would ruin your whole life. So if you really want to get married, you need to get to know the guy well first. Make sure he's the one before you say yes. Don't gamble with your happiness. Even if your family goes bankrupt, as long as you have confidence and ability, you can bounce back. A woman's marriage is her second chance at life. You can't be careless about it."

"Don't worry, I'll think it over," Evie said with a dry smile.

Anyway, she was going to marry a gay man. A gay man! A gay man! Important things needed to be repeated three times.

That evening, Evie went home to stay.

She couldn't sleep again.

It was almost dawn before she finally dozed off. When she woke up, she had dark circles under her eyes. Her mother had to call her to get up.

Well, to be honest, she had drunk too much coffee last night. It wasn't because of the marriage.

They had to be at the Civil Affairs Bureau by nine-thirty.

Today, she was going to register her marriage to Mr. Sterling.

And before that, they had to go to a law firm to sign a prenuptial agreement and notarize their assets.

While Evie was washing up, her head still ached.

But she had come this far. There was no turning back.

The only thing that comforted her was that she was marrying a gay man. Then she would get a divorce.

Amelia had specifically asked her eldest daughter to help Evie dress up nicely.

Evie stared at herself in the mirror for a long time. She couldn't see clearly. She wanted to put on her glasses, but her mother snatched them away.

"You are not allowed to wear glasses today. They're so ugly!"

"Mom, I can't see anything without them!" Evie whined.

Eight hundred degrees of myopia. Twelve hundred in both eyes combined.

Not letting her wear glasses was like forcing her to live in a fog. A hazy beauty?

"Don't wear them today. Go get a pair of contact lenses tomorrow. You have such beautiful big eyes, but you always hide them behind those glasses. If you keep hiding your gifts from heaven, you'll be punished, you know!" Amelia scolded.

Evie almost rolled her eyes.

Gifts from heaven? Please.

Anyone listening would think her sister was some kind of ancient beauty.

But Evie had grown more attractive over the past two years. Her features were delicate. Her almond-shaped eyes were stunning.

It was a pity that this little sister never knew what charm was. She only knew how to be a bookworm.

"But if I don't wear my glasses, I can't see anything clearly. What if I mistake someone for the groom?" Evie answered innocently.
