"Today, Elijah's father called your father and said that Elijah is wanted overseas. He was heartbroken, so he returned to China to see if he could bring back some of Elijah's belongings. But you know Elijah's house was sealed off. Our family still has a few handmade items Elijah made with you when you were kids. He wanted to have a chat with your father. Your father is soft-hearted. He thinks Elijah's father needs comfort right now, so he went to the place where Elijah's father is staying, bringing those childhood crafts with him."
Emma's mother said to her.
But at that moment, Emma felt her mind go blank, unable to respond to her mother. She could only think about what Captain Reed had told her at the police station. After verification, Elijah's father was also a core figure in the Black Feather organization. Many international organ trafficking cases were linked to him. She thought about Elijah's talent in medicine. How could he have become a neurology expert at such a young age without a father so skilled in the field?
Now that Elijah's father had returned home, it was hard not to think he had leaked information to the police about Elijah, seeking revenge on his own son. Emma felt her vision go dark, and she nearly fainted onto the bed. A wave of panic surged through her. She forced herself to speak to her mother in her usual tone. After hanging up, she immediately grabbed her coat, rushed out of the apartment without hesitation, and hurriedly took a cab to Elijah's villa.
Meanwhile, James had already arrived at the meeting place Elijah's father had specified. He looked around at the desolate villa area, remembering that it hadn't been fully developed yet. Not many people wanted to live here. He didn't think much of it. He walked up to one of the villas and rang the doorbell. Soon, the shutter opened automatically. James stepped inside, and the villa's door quickly swung open.
James had just entered. He was puzzled that Elijah's father hadn't come out to greet him, and when the living room light didn't turn on, something suddenly struck him from behind on the head. Then James collapsed to the floor, unconscious.
The living room light flicked on abruptly. A slender figure stared expressionlessly at James lying on the ground. Indifferently, she used a rope to tie James's hands together, then struggled to drag him onto a chair. After that, she tied his legs to the stool. Once everything was done, the slender figure finally turned off the living room light and quietly slipped out of the villa.
But she didn't leave immediately. She lurked nearby until she heard the sound of police sirens. Only then did she breathe a sigh of relief, pick up her phone, and dial a number.
"Hello, boss. I've tricked Emma's father into coming here, just as you instructed, pretending to be Elijah's father. The next part should go exactly as you predicted. This time, Emma will be in agony."
"You did well. Remember not to get caught."
A cold, warning voice came through the phone.
"Yes, boss. I'll be careful."
After reporting, she hung up her phone. Then she walked in the opposite direction of the police cars, as if she were just a passerby.
The pale moonlight shone on her face. It was Emilia Clark. Her once pitiful face now looked cold-blooded and sinister.
"What's going on?"
Sitting in the police car, Liam asked Captain Reed beside him.
"We suddenly received an anonymous tip. The caller said they saw someone who looked exactly like the suspect from the organ trafficking case. Before I could get any details, the person seemed to hang up in fear. I don't even know how they knew what the suspect looks like. But regardless, we can't let any clue slip. That's why I called you. As you know, that man is Elijah's father. If we catch him, we have half a chance of getting a lead on the case."
"But this feels a bit strange?"
As Liam pondered, the police car had already stopped in front of a villa, following the anonymous tip. Several police officers immediately drew their guns and slowly moved toward the villa's door.
When they reached the door, they all heard something moving inside. Everyone exchanged glances. Before Liam could speak, Captain Reed kicked the door open.
At that moment, something flew down from above, lunging straight at Captain Reed. Liam immediately drew his pistol and shot the flying object to the side.
The bullet pierced the object, and a painful sob came from the dark living room. Liam had a bad feeling. Then the living room light turned on, revealing everything clearly.
It turned out that the object flying toward Captain Reed was a cloth bag filled with flour, tied to a rope. Opening the door had triggered a mechanism, sending it flying.
What Liam hadn't expected was that the man tied to the chair in the middle of the living room was James. His bullet had hit James in the shoulder, dangerously close to his heart. As an ordinary man, James soon lost consciousness.
"Dad!"
Just as Liam was still in shock, he heard a familiar female voice behind him. He knew who it was, but his body was too stiff to turn around. He could only watch as Emma, crying, ran to James's side. She pressed her hand over the wound on his shoulder, tears streaming down her face. She hadn't expected this to be a trap. As an outsider, Captain Reed quickly saw the situation clearly, fearing it was aimed at Liam and Emma. He ordered the officers to rescue James and called for an ambulance.
Then he gave Liam a sympathetic look, not knowing how to comfort him. He could only pat him on the shoulder and take a few officers upstairs to check for anything unusual.
"Emma, I..."
Liam's feet felt as heavy as lead. He didn't know how he managed to walk to Emma's side. His eyes were filled with remorse. He opened his mouth, but no words came out.
The bullet wound on James's shoulder was indeed from his gun. Even if he hadn't known what he was shooting at.
"Liam, I hate you to death."
Emma glared at Liam with red, furious eyes. It was as if she had a sharp weapon hidden in her gaze, wanting to carve a piece of flesh from his body.
Liam froze, then a bitter, thin smile twisted his lips.
Then, before anyone could react, he suddenly grabbed Emma's hand and placed his gun into her palm.
"I shot your father. I deserve to pay for it. So now, take your revenge."
