Chapter 462

Daniel Taylor's words made Emma Johnson frown slightly. Although Daniel had helped her several times, she was grateful for that. Yet she had always suspected his motives for helping her weren't simple, which was precisely why Emma kept her distance from him.

Emma had always felt somewhat impatient with Daniel, but now that he was sitting here as a diner, she couldn't very well kick him out. So she had to be patient and asked the waiter to serve him some of the restaurant's signature dishes. Unfortunately, before the food arrived, another unexpected person showed up.

This made Emma feel a sharp throb at her temples, a headache coming on.

"I didn't expect Mr. Williams's information network to be so far-reaching. I've only been here a short while, and here you are, following right behind. This habit of pestering your ex-wife is hardly flattering."

Daniel looked at Liam Williams, who had just appeared in the restaurant, a smile on his face and sarcasm dripping from his words.

In truth, what he said wasn't wrong. Although Liam had divorced Emma, he had caused so much trouble before. Fearing that Emma would be harassed, he had ordered people to keep watch here ever since he found out she was one of the owners of this branch. Unlike before, this time it was purely for Emma's safety.

But Daniel said it that way, and Liam saw Emma's face turn pale from the corner of his eye. He knew she must have misunderstood. So before Daniel could speak again, Liam said coldly, "Ex-wife? Does Mr. Taylor not know what happened to those media outlets? Do you want Oasis Holdings to fight a lawsuit with Pinnacle Corporation?"

After that, Liam looked at Emma with deep, unfathomable eyes, like an ancient pond. Emma suddenly remembered the contents of the divorce agreement. Although she didn't want to, she knew she couldn't admit to anyone now that she and Liam were divorced. Especially not to Daniel, after all, she had heard Liam say that Oasis Holdings was trying to replace Pinnacle Corporation's influence in the city at any time.

So she said nothing, just turned and walked into the kitchen, as if silently acquiescing to Liam's words.

However, she didn't want to see Liam, especially after discovering she was pregnant this afternoon. She didn't want Liam to know she was carrying his baby. No matter what kind of reaction Liam might have, it wouldn't be something she wanted to see.

So it was better to be out of sight and hide somewhere else.

Daniel watched Emma's retreating back with confusion in his eyes. He had clearly heard that the two were divorced. But given Emma's personality, when Liam said they weren't divorced, she should have stepped forward to refute him. Yet she had only glanced lightly at Liam and then turned to leave.

Were they not divorced after all? Had they simply quarreled?

Daniel's mind was foggy, and his heart inevitably grew irritable. Especially when Liam sat down opposite him with an elusive, faint smile on his face, making him subconsciously alert.

"Mr. Taylor, I heard you've been actively expanding Oasis Holdings' international business recently. That's a good thing. So, I think you'd better focus on your company's affairs and not worry about other matters. Otherwise, if your company suddenly suffers a blow to its reputation abroad, it won't just be bad for overseas expansion—it will seriously affect your domestic standing. That must not be what you want to see."

Liam spoke slowly, as if he were discussing the weather.

Daniel's eyes narrowed sharply. He stared at the iceberg-cold man in front of him. The other man looked back at him without fear, as if he were looking at something trivial, as if, whenever he wanted, he could crush Daniel.

Daniel was a smart man and naturally understood the implication in Liam's words. He was angry, of course, but he also knew that Liam never made empty threats.

From the way Liam had dealt with those media outlets, one could see how terrifying his decisiveness was. In just a few days, he had come up with a good strategy and, without fear of offending anyone, had rooted them out completely. Even though Daniel had been angry with the media at the time, he had to admit he didn't have the means to overthrow them like that.

If he wanted to fight head-on, he knew he wouldn't easily beat Liam.

So at this moment, even though his anger was burning, he held it back. But that didn't mean he would give up on Emma.

He couldn't help but plan in his mind what methods he could use to stop Liam from covering the sky with one hand. The current situation needed to change.

Unfortunately, he was too busy with his company now, dealing with his little aunt who was fighting for her inheritance. If he wanted to deal with Liam, he would have to let William Thompson make the first move. Only when he had freed up his hands could he devote himself to it.

Daniel and Liam each had their own plans in mind. Unfortunately, they hadn't seen Emma for a long time. Liam was the first to stand up and asked the waiter to take him to the kitchen.

Unfortunately, he didn't see Emma. The waiter told him that Emma had already gone home. After all, as the boss, she didn't have to stay in the store all the time.

Liam's eyes darkened. It seemed impossible to change Emma's mind in a short time.

Just as he was thinking about whether to go to the residential area where Emma lived, his phone suddenly rang. When he picked up and heard what Captain David Reed had to say, Liam couldn't help but look cold, and then he left The Waterfront.

After Emma returned to her apartment, the first thing she did was throw away all the sleeping pills at home, dumping them in the trash can. Although she still hadn't decided whether to keep the baby, she had subconsciously started throwing away everything that could harm her child.

Emma turned on the room light and sat on the bed, staring at the checklist for a long time. Finally, feeling depressed, she couldn't help but call her mother. It wasn't to tell her she was pregnant. She just wanted to chat with someone close to her, as if that would make her feel better.

Her mother answered the phone soon. Emma asked her what she and her father were doing, as usual.

At first, her mother refused to say, but later she couldn't help but tell her.
