Chapter 376

"Thank heavens for that. Sir, as you're aware, the recent disappearances in the city have caused quite a stir. People are terrified. A few victims were found, but they were all cold corpses, their organs completely removed. It's unthinkable what might have happened if my wife hadn't been located in time."

Housekeeper Oliver spoke with relief. Old Mr. Henry nodded in agreement.

"It's truly horrifying—people vanishing and their organs being harvested. I suspect an international crime ring is behind it. Thank goodness Emma is back safe and sound."

Henry Williams shuddered slightly at the thought.

Meanwhile, Emma Johnson was lying on the bed in the master bedroom, placed there by Liam Williams. He sat down beside the bed, resting one hand gently on her face. Watching her sleep, she looked as peaceful as a quiet child.

"Do you have any idea how terrified I was?"

Liam picked up Emma's hand and pressed it against his cheek. She had been unconscious for so long that her fingers were cold. Even after holding them to his face for a while, they didn't warm up. He reached out to feel her forehead, confirming she had no fever, and finally let out a relieved breath.

But he still couldn't fully relax. He called Dr. Julian Moore, asking him to come and give Emma a thorough check-up. Just as Dr. Moore was examining her, Liam received a call from Mia Lewis.

"Do you have any news about Emma? Did the police find her?"

Even after several hours, Mia's voice still sounded frantic. Liam told her that Emma had been found, and only then did Mia's tone soften with relief.

After hanging up, Mia quickly called Elijah Clark to inform him. She had seen him rush out earlier, clearly searching for Emma. But without any leads, and not being a cop, he was just running around like a headless fly. Now that she'd told him, he could finally rest easy.

At that moment, Elijah was at his family's villa. His father's assistant had just returned with urgent news. When Elijah heard what the assistant said, he realized he might have been exposed. He immediately ordered Ryan Kim to book a private boat for him, planning to leave the city by sea that same day, then transfer to another city and fly out of China on a late-night ticket. Only this way could he prevent his father from being implicated as well.

By the time Elijah's father woke up, everything had already been arranged. He had no objections to his son sending the assistant away first.

...

Emma woke up in the middle of the night. Because she had inhaled drugs that induced a coma, along with a heavy dose of anesthetics, she was still groggy when she came to. Staring at the tall figure beside her, she couldn't make out his face clearly for a moment.

"Awake? How are you feeling?"

Seeing Emma rub her temples, Liam couldn't help but ask.

"Why did I fall asleep?"

Still disoriented, Emma propped herself up on her elbows and sat up in bed.

"You were in danger today. You almost disappeared."

Liam's deep, gentle voice echoed in Emma's ears, suddenly jolting her memory of what had happened in the elevator.

She remembered heading to the underground garage to get stomach medicine for Isabella. But for some reason, the elevator had malfunctioned. When the doors finally opened a few minutes later, she encountered a mysterious man wearing a mask. He covered her nose and mouth, and then she lost consciousness.

"I was knocked out by a man in a mask."

Recalling the events, Emma grabbed Liam's arm and said urgently.

"Just as I suspected. Don't worry—the police have already analyzed a complete portrait of that man. They're searching the entire city for him now."

Hearing Emma's words, Liam knew his analysis had been correct. He quickly comforted her.

"Good. But how did you find me?"

Emma calmed down, though her eyes still held a hint of confusion. She asked Liam.

"The police found you. Maybe the other side was careless."

Liam gave Emma a brief explanation, mentioning that he had a suspect in mind who might have left her at the entrance of the Grand Orchid Hotel. But without concrete evidence, he couldn't be sure.

However, he didn't want Emma to know that.

"I was really lucky this time."

Emma smiled at Liam, her expression brightening.

Just then, her stomach growled. She remembered she'd only had breakfast that morning and hadn't eaten anything since noon. Looking at Liam, she said a little sheepishly, "I'm hungry."

"Of course. I figured you'd wake up hungry. The kitchen has been preparing food for you. I'll have them bring it up right now."

Liam turned and called for Charlotte, the maid waiting at the door, to go downstairs and get dinner.

"You don't need to bring it up. I'll go downstairs and eat."

Emma didn't think it was necessary, so she swung her legs over the side of the bed to get up. But as soon as her feet touched the floor, it felt like she was stepping on soft cotton. Her body felt like it was falling apart, and she uncontrollably pitched forward.

Luckily, Liam caught her just in time. Emma's head rested against his chest, and she felt a little dizzy.

"They gave you a lot of anesthetics. Even though Dr. Moore gave you an injection, it won't wear off completely in a day. You'd better stay in bed and wait for the food to come."

Liam reluctantly helped Emma back into bed and pulled the covers up over her.

Hearing this, Emma tried to clench her fist, but she really had no strength. She couldn't help worrying about how she was going to eat like this.

If she tried to eat, the spoon would fall right out of her hand. How embarrassing.

When the maid brought up the porridge and dishes, Emma was a little stunned as she watched Liam pick up the spoon and bowl.

"Do you really think you have the strength to finish a whole meal right now?"

Liam's matter-of-fact tone made Emma drop her head helplessly. She had no choice but to obediently accept his feeding.

But a moment later, she was starting to lose it.

"Liam, can you blow on the porridge to cool it down before feeding me?"

"Hey, I said, can you stop feeding me so fast? I haven't even finished what's in my mouth yet."

"The spoon hit my nose!"

...

Emma looked speechlessly at this handsome, seemingly perfect man. He looked flawless, but after one meal, she felt like she was about to suffer internal injuries.
