The hoarse voice on the other end of the line carried obvious disappointment.
"Accidents happen in everything. You know, her husband has always been a very important figure."
A long silence stretched across the line. Blaze patiently waited, showing no signs of agitation.
"Fine. If you failed, you failed. Return to Italy in the next few days, then transfer to another country. Our clients keep saying there aren't enough organs. There's plenty of room for you to operate."
After a long pause, the raspy voice finally spoke again.
"Understood."
Blaze hung up and walked to the window. He watched a man carefully help a woman into a car outside. A faint smile never left his bloodless lips.
It seemed he could expect this woman to become his daughter-in-law. After all, his son was outstanding—no less than Emma Johnson's husband.
The reason he kept the boss's orders from his son was simple. He didn't want his son to impulsively offend the boss. No matter how powerful his son was, he couldn't fight the entire Black Feather organization. But if Emma Johnson truly became his son's wife, he could tolerate it for the boss's sake.
After weighing every angle carefully, Blaze felt this concealment was absolutely necessary.
Just as he was about to lie down and rest, his phone rang again. He glanced at the caller ID, and a flicker of coldness passed through his eyes.
He picked up.
"It's you?"
"It's me. Listen, your assistant is now suspected by Liam Williams. The police are confirming his appearance. Once they do, he'll be exposed. Don't let him show up outside recently."
A young voice came through the phone, laced with nervous urgency.
Blaze paused briefly. He hadn't expected Liam Williams to be so capable. Without any solid evidence, he still managed to find clues from almost nothing.
This man was not to be underestimated. Fortunately, he was only a businessman now. If he were still in the military, he would become the most feared figure in the Black Feather organization.
"I understand. You be careful not to get caught. Otherwise, you know how the boss will decide your fate if you're exposed."
Blaze received a trembling confirmation from the other end, then hung up expressionlessly. He immediately called his assistant's phone, explained the situation, and ordered him to return to the villa at once.
It seemed he could no longer stay in this city.
Elijah drove and dropped Emma off not far from the Grand Orchid Hotel. After looking around and confirming no one was watching, he carefully helped her out. He placed her on a bench, then drove back to a remote alley.
Only when he saw two police officers approaching and discovering Emma did Elijah drive away.
Captain Reed was in contact with the tech department, verifying the true appearance of the masked man, when a subordinate knocked on the door. They reported seeing Emma Johnson sleeping on a bench not far from the Grand Orchid Hotel.
Hearing this, Liam immediately left the room and rushed to the corridor. He saw Emma being carried out of the elevator on a police officer's back. He stepped forward and took the sleeping Emma from the officer. At that moment, he felt his heart tremble. His eyes seemed glued to her face, checking if she was hurt.
He held her with such care, as if she were a fragile baby in his arms. One wrong move and everything would shatter.
Emilia Clark came out behind Christopher Martin, her eyes slightly wide. Seeing Emma safe and sound, she thought to herself that this woman's luck was too strong. She had survived without a scratch. Emilia had thought that after today, Emma would be a cold corpse.
"Where's my cousin? Did you find her?"
In another rest room, Isabella Miller, who had just received the news, immediately ran out. Her eyes, which should have been dry from crying, were now filled with tears again. The moment she saw Emma, she could no longer hold back.
Tears of joy streamed down her face.
"Thank God, my cousin is finally okay. But why isn't she awake?"
Isabella spoke through tears and laughter, then noticed Emma was still sleeping in Liam's arms. She asked.
"I'm afraid my wife has been drugged. But the effects haven't worn off yet. It shouldn't be a big problem."
Liam didn't pay much attention to Isabella. In fact, he showed great impatience when she ran over crying in front of him. If it weren't for her genuine worry for Emma, Liam would have already ordered the bodyguards to make her leave.
Christopher Martin was more patient and explained to Isabella.
"I see. But in the end, she's okay. God bless her." Isabella clasped her hands together.
Emilia also stepped forward to show concern. Liam looked down and saw Emma's brows slightly furrow. Although she hadn't woken up yet, she might have been disturbed by the noise around her. So he immediately carried her out of the hotel and brought her back to Windsor Manor.
"What's wrong with Emma?"
Old Mr. Henry Williams was drinking tea at home, chatting with Butler Oliver, imagining when he would become a grandfather. But then he saw his eldest son suddenly rush in, holding what seemed to be his sleeping daughter-in-law.
He sensed something had happened and quickly asked.
"I'll take Emma upstairs first. Let Christopher explain to you."
Liam said to the old man as he carried Emma upstairs. Christopher soon came in and organized his thoughts to explain the accident that had happened today.
After listening to Christopher's words, the old man was very surprised. He hadn't expected that his daughter-in-law, just accompanying her cousin to a press conference, would almost disappear.
"Fortunately, the police found her later. Otherwise, the lady's life would still be uncertain."
About being found by the police, not only Liam but also Captain Reed and Christopher had serious doubts. Who sent Emma back? Was the person behind this an enemy or a friend? It was still a mystery.
But in front of the old man, Christopher felt this explanation was acceptable. That's why he gave him such an answer.
