"I think you'd better let Charlotte come. She's always more careful."
Emma Johnson raised her weak hand to stop Liam Williams' spoon. She wasn't sure if the porridge was too hot. Her tongue couldn't handle another burn.
"You're my wife. There's no reason to let someone else feed you."
Liam didn't agree with Emma's suggestion at all. He insisted on feeding her himself. This almost drove Emma crazy.
Was Charlotte a woman? What was the big deal?
But looking at the porridge in the bowl, Emma took a deep breath and reluctantly accepted Liam's help. She swore that if the anesthetic hadn't worn off by tomorrow morning, she would never let Liam come again.
When she finally finished this difficult meal, Emma picked up a napkin to wipe her mouth.
Seeing Emma's face after eating, Liam felt relieved.
"By the way, your friend Mia also knows you were in danger. Now that you're awake, you should call her yourself."
Liam remembered this and said to Emma. He had almost forgotten about Emilia Clark.
"How did she find out?"
Emma looked at Liam in surprise.
"I thought you might be with a friend, so I called her."
She heard Liam's explanation and nodded in understanding. Then she picked up the phone and dialed Mia's number. But Liam took this opportunity to leave temporarily and went to the study to deal with the documents that had piled up in the afternoon.
"Emma, are you awake? How are you feeling now? Are you okay?"
Mia's worried voice came from the other end of the phone.
"Yes, I'm fine. Today's events were quite dangerous, but fortunately, in the end, there was no real danger."
Emma told Mia what she had experienced, and Mia was very nervous.
"Has the police found out who the attacker is now?"
"Although they've identified a suspect, they need to catch him first. Otherwise, it will just become a cold case."
"That's terrifying. Emma, you know, when I heard you were missing, my first thought was that it might be connected to those recent disappearances in the city. That's scary."
"Mia, don't scare me. Just thinking about it frightens me. I don't want to end up like those people."
Just thinking about it made Emma break out in a cold sweat.
She talked with Mia for a while, and finally hung up.
Emma felt sticky from lying in bed all afternoon. So she called the maid, Charlotte, to help her fill the bathtub with water, planning to go in and simply clean herself.
Although she had no strength, she thought taking a bath to wash off the sweat shouldn't be a problem.
After Charlotte had prepared the water, Emma was helped by Charlotte and walked slowly to the bathroom.
Sitting in the steaming bathtub, Emma felt every cell in her body relax. It was very comfortable.
"Go out first. I'll call you when I'm done."
Emma said to Charlotte. Charlotte closed the bathroom door and left.
Charlotte arrived at the door and saw that the young master had come out of the study.
"Is she sleeping?"
Liam asked Charlotte.
"Madam is bathing in the bathroom."
Charlotte replied honestly. Liam's eyes were full of displeasure. This Emma always gave him a headache.
With her eyes closed, Emma half-lay in the bathtub, enjoying the comfort of bathing. However, such a good time didn't last long, because it wasn't long before Liam came in.
"You dare to take a bath before the anesthetic has completely worn off? Emma, you really worry me."
The man's blaming tone made Emma feel like a child who had failed an exam and was being scolded by her parents. She thought, was this man her husband or her parents? Really, couldn't she even make her own decision about taking a bath?
What embarrassed her most was that Liam helped her bathe in person. Although it wasn't the first time, it still made Emma's ears burn like fire, and her breathing became uneven.
She could even clearly feel the hot touch when the man caressed her skin, which made her blush.
It was a difficult and painful process, but fortunately it was over at last. Emma was finally carried out of the bathtub by Liam, and her face was still very red. Liam looked at Emma with tenderness and helplessness. He thought about when this little woman would finally let herself go. They had been intimate so many times that she should have been used to it by now.
Looking at Emma's blushing face, so pure and charming, Liam managed to suppress the clamor in his body. After all, her physical condition today didn't allow it. He wasn't that desperate.
Back on the bed, Liam placed Emma on it. Then he picked up a towel and slowly dried her long wet hair. Warm ambiguity flowed in the air.
His movements were very gentle, which made Emma feel very comfortable. Sitting there, her eyelids couldn't help but close. She didn't know when the man finished drying her hair, and she didn't know when he put her on the bed.
She only knew that she fell into a deep sleep and slept soundly all night.
But Liam looked at Emma, who was sleeping soundly, and didn't lie down to sleep immediately. Instead, he went back to his study and called Captain David Reed.
"Has that man been found?"
Liam asked Captain Reed.
"He was found at the dock this afternoon. It's a pity that we arrived a step too late. Now we're trying to confirm which city he went to."
Captain Reed's tone was full of regret.
"It seems that the information we got has been leaked."
After listening to Captain Reed's words, Liam's eyes sharpened, and he spoke in a cold voice.
"How can that be? We've been keeping this clue hidden all along."
There was disbelief in Captain Reed's voice.
"It's hard to say. It's also possible that there's something wrong with the other side's internal security. In short, the fact that we discovered the masked man should have alerted the other party. Otherwise, they wouldn't have arranged for him to leave so quickly."
This was Liam's conjecture.
