Chapter 58

Owen laughed for a long time before saying, "Evie, you're adorable! I've decided I like you!"

Evie got goosebumps instantly. She instinctively resisted. You still don't like me?

I'm not a man!

Finally, Owen was willing to hang up.

Evie felt her ears ringing.

She rarely took such long calls.

This Owen was way too talkative.

Was this his first time as a rival?

That thought flashed through Evie's mind.

It seemed Owen was no pushover. He didn't play by the rules. That made her a little nervous whenever she answered his calls.

She forgot to explain to him just now. She had nothing to do with Alexander. He could rest assured.

Then she thought it would be unclear over the phone. She might as well go to the airport the day after tomorrow and explain it face to face.

It was time to meet Owen at the airport.

His plane landed at four in the afternoon.

She could arrive at the airport about half an hour early.

Grace's car was already waiting for her at the school gate.

Evie carried a small bag and trotted to the school gate. While looking for Grace's car, she heard someone calling her.

She turned around and saw Grace getting out of a white car.

Evie trotted over. "Sorry, I'm late." She gasped and apologized.

"No, I'm a little early. Take your time. It's okay!"

Grace helped Evie open the back door.

When Evie got in, Grace returned to the driver's seat and said to Evie, "Ma'am, fasten your seatbelt!"

"Oh, okay." Evie replied.

"It's not mandatory, but it's better to fasten your seatbelt." Grace replied with a smile.

"That's true!" Evie echoed.

She thought she could actually sit in the passenger seat. It would be more convenient to chat with Grace.

But she was already in the back. Forget it. When she got back, she'd take the passenger seat.

"Grace, thank you for this afternoon!" Evie asked.

"No problem. It's my job!"

"Does your job include such private matters?" Evie was surprised.

"I'm Mr. Sterling's personal assistant. That means a lot of his personal affairs are also within my scope of work." Grace explained with a smile.

"So there's such a profession!" Evie sighed.

"Yes, but the division of labor is more detailed."

"Oh!" Evie answered.

It seemed she wasn't experienced enough.

"Grace, you'd better call me by my name. I'm not used to it!" Evie said again.

Every time Grace called her 'ma'am,' she got goosebumps, just like when Owen called her 'sister-in-law.'

"Just a few more times. It's not good. I call Mr. Sterling 'Mr. Sterling,' but I call you by your name!"

"It's nothing. He is Mr. Sterling. I... It's better to call you by your name!"

"You are indeed Mrs. Sterling, Mr. Sterling's wife! If Mrs. Sterling is not used to it, I'll call you by your name in private. Usually in front of Mr. Sterling, I'll call you as I should. What do you think, ma'am?" Grace asked with a smile.

"Good, good. Just like now, when it's just the two of us, you'd better call me by my name directly!" Evie immediately agreed.

"Thank you, Evie."

"You're very busy working around Alexander!" Evie said to her, not wanting to be silent and bored all the way to the airport.

"I'm okay. I'm busy with Mr. Sterling!" Grace said modestly.

"He's really busy. What I hear most is that he's working overtime!" Evie responded.

"Yes, because of the time difference, Mr. Sterling often has to work late at night. In addition, he has several duties, so he is really busy!" Grace said.

"Well!" Evie nodded.

"But if you take care of Mr. Sterling in the future, he won't be so tired!"

"Actually, I can't help him!" Evie replied awkwardly.

She didn't understand anything. She couldn't understand the materials Alexander read, let alone anything else.

"You don't have to do anything. Sometimes company is also a kind of happiness!" Grace said with a smile.

Evie was even more embarrassed.

Even if Alexander needed company, it wasn't her.

Yes, it was Owen. But he was coming home today.

Alexander should be very happy today. "Is Alexander in a good mood today?" Evie asked tentatively.

"It's very good. Usually, Mr. Sterling doesn't show his emotions. I saw Mr. Sterling laughing this morning." Grace said.

"It would be strange if he were in a bad mood." Evie responded.

His lover was coming back!

If it were her, she thought she would be happy!

Well, she didn't have a lover yet, so she didn't know what it was like to have one.

But absence makes the heart grow fonder. She still knew the meaning of that phrase.

"Mr. Sterling seems to be in a good mood during this period. That should be your credit!" Grace continued.

"Ah? It has nothing to do with me!" Evie was stunned for a moment, then quickly waved her hand.

How could Alexander be in a good mood because of her!

In the end, they were just familiar strangers!

"How can it be that it doesn't matter! You are Mrs. Sterling. You just registered with Mr. Sterling not long ago. Haven't you heard the saying – lovers get married. Is this a beautiful thing in the world?" Grace said with a smile.

"..." But they weren't lovers!

Evie could only sigh in her heart.

But if Alexander was in a good mood today, it must be for a reason.

Because Owen had returned home!

Thinking of this, Evie felt her task was more arduous. She had to find a suitable opportunity to explain clearly to Owen.

Don't let him misunderstand. It would affect their feelings, and then Alexander's mood. If he got wind of it, she would be in trouble.

Evie couldn't help sighing.

"Evie, what's the matter?" Grace asked with a smile.

"Nothing. Grace, are you married?" Evie asked.

"Not yet. I don't even have a boyfriend. How can I get married?" Grace said with a smile.

"Grace, you're so accomplished. If you don't have a boyfriend, you're definitely not willing to find one, or your standards are too high."

"Well, sometimes I really want to find one, but I don't meet the right person. If you want to say my standards are high, there's no need. Just find someone with the right personality and the right conditions. Fate is something you can't force. It may not come when you need it, but it may knock frequently when you're not in a hurry. Or you are more fortunate. After all, a man like Mr. Sterling is not something everyone can meet!" Grace replied.

"Then... Don't you know why I married Alexander?" Evie hesitated and asked.

She married to take care of her family. Her family was going bankrupt, and she needed money to take care of them.

Alexander had to marry her because he was forced to by his family!

The two of them didn't marry for love!

"Besides love, is there any other reason?"

Evie felt she had dug a hole and buried herself.

Obviously not, but she couldn't explain.

"If others say marriage is for something else, I still believe it. But I don't think it's possible for Mr. Sterling!" Grace continued.

"Why can't Alexander get married?" Evie asked in surprise.

"I feel it. Mr. Sterling is a very independent person. Marriage is such a big event. He must have made his own decision!"

"Oh!" Evie answered.

She thought that if it weren't for the gay rumors, perhaps as Grace said, Alexander wouldn't be an easy compromise.

It would be impossible for her to be with him.

It was because he needed a wife to cover up his true identity that he agreed to this marriage!

"We have been working with Mr. Sterling for so many years. Mr. Sterling seldom cares about private affairs except his family. But during this period, Mr. Sterling has called me several times, all related to you. Just like the last time I bought vegetables, Mr. Sterling specifically explained that you like shrimp, so I remembered to buy it. It was my first time helping Mr. Sterling buy vegetables. Actually, I'm not very good at buying vegetables. In the end, I took my mother to buy them together. She is very good at it!" Grace replied with a smile.

Evie was even more embarrassed. "Sorry, I had to trouble your aunt."

"Nothing! I usually spend less time with her. It was just when I accompanied her to the supermarket. She liked it too. Those dishes were okay!"

"They were very good. We cooked them all." Evie answered quickly.

"That's good! It turns out Mr. Sterling likes girls like you. Before, many beautiful women took the initiative to befriend Mr. Sterling, but we didn't see Mr. Sterling's heart beat! We were still guessing what kind of girls Mr. Sterling likes! Now we finally know. You're the one who really lives. Sometimes, no matter how well others do, they don't do as well as their family does. No wonder Mr. Sterling wanted to marry you home so quickly. Before that, there was no news at all!" Grace replied. Maybe she realized she was talking too much, hesitated, and added, "Did I say too much?"

"No, no. We're just chatting!" Evie said.

"Don't worry about it. I'll lose my job if I talk so much about him." Grace said half-jokingly.

"No, it's our business. It has nothing to do with him. I'd like to hear that from you." Evie smiled and replied.

"That's good!"

The two chatted like this and unconsciously arrived at the airport.

There were nearly forty minutes to go before Owen's flight arrived.

Well, it was early.

Evie had to find a seat in the nearby coffee shop with Grace. They ordered drinks while waiting for Owen's plane to arrive.

After Owen's flight arrived on time, Evie and Grace went to the VIP channel to meet him.
