Chapter 41

"What are you doing?" Alexander Sterling frowned, watching Evelyn's strange behavior.

"I... I forgot to grab my clothes!" Evelyn clutched the bath towel tightly around her body, her voice filled with embarrassment.

She bent over and shuffled toward the sofa where the paper bag sat.

Alexander said nothing more. He unbuttoned his shirt and walked into the bathroom.

When Evelyn picked a casual suit from the paper bag, she was about to go back to the bathroom to put it on.

The moment she opened the door, she heard the sound of running water.

Her heart skipped a beat. A bad feeling crept over her.

She secretly lifted her eyes and glanced toward the shower. She got so scared that she quickly pulled the bathroom door shut.

Then she clutched her clothes and sat on the bed, waiting for Alexander to finish his bath before she went in.

This was so frustrating!

He didn't tell her he was going to take a shower.

She almost saw something she shouldn't have!

Evelyn sat there holding her clothes, waiting. But Alexander didn't come out.

She was almost asleep from waiting.

Besides, she was really tired now.

Alexander finished his bath and walked out of the dressing room.

He saw Evelyn holding her clothes, slumped in a corner of the bed, fast asleep. She looked like a lazy cat.

For a moment, he didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

He walked over, picked her up, placed her in the middle of the bed, and pulled the covers over her.

Then Alexander grabbed a pack of cigarettes and a lighter and went to the balcony to smoke.

This apartment was something he bought after returning home.

It wasn't far from the company.

The developer was a friend of his who happened to have several high-end units available.

He needed one for convenience. Sometimes, when he worked late at the company, he stayed here directly.

The cold wind hit him, sharp and biting. Especially for someone whose hair was still warm from a shower.

But Alexander didn't seem to feel it. He lit a cigarette, took a drag, and stared blankly at the bustling city below.

Evelyn woke up because she dreamed she had fallen into an abyss. She kicked her legs and jolted awake.

She was still groggy. She stretched lazily and prepared to get up.

She was stunned by the unfamiliar surroundings. Then she looked around and remembered she had spent the night in Alexander's apartment.

Alexander?

The next second, she felt movement beside her. She looked down and saw Alexander lying on his side.

He was fast asleep. And he was completely naked!

At least his upper body didn't have a single thread on it!

"Ah!"

Evelyn let out a sudden scream.

Alexander was jolted awake. He frowned in extreme displeasure and glared at Evelyn.

Evelyn was pulling the quilt tightly around herself, her face on the verge of tears.

"What are you doing so early in the morning?" Alexander asked, annoyed.

"We... we didn't... last night..."

"What about last night?" Alexander sat up, rubbing his eyebrows.

Evelyn saw Alexander sit up, the quilt sliding down to reveal his muscular upper body. She was so scared that she quickly closed her eyes. Her face turned bright red!

"Do you have class this morning?" Alexander asked again before Evelyn could respond.

"Ah? Oh, a ten o'clock class!" Evelyn was stunned for a moment, not understanding how Alexander could change the subject so quickly.

"It's not eight yet. Sleep a little longer. I'll have the driver take you back to school at nine-thirty." Alexander checked the time and then lay back down.

Evelyn immediately sat on the edge of the bed, feeling awkward and embarrassed. She watched Alexander warily, not daring to lie down or get up.

And she didn't really feel anything different.

If they had done that, she should have felt something, right?

Didn't people say the first time was supposed to be very painful?

She didn't feel anything unusual, except that she wasn't wearing any clothes.

She felt relieved.

But right now, there was no way she could lie down and continue sleeping. Besides, she wasn't even dressed yet!

Evelyn could only wait for Alexander to fall asleep before she got up.

After a long time, Evelyn thought Alexander must be asleep.

So she began to gently pull the quilt and crept down from the bed.

She wrapped the quilt around herself.

She looked around, searching for the paper bag with her clothes. The next second, she saw Alexander's deep gaze.

At that moment, he was lying flat on the bed, completely still, as if he had been stunned.

He was only wearing a pair of briefs.

He didn't even have a quilt.

Because Evelyn was now wrapped in it.

Evelyn was so startled that she didn't even dare to breathe.

"Are you trying to freeze me to death?" Alexander asked, expressionless.

Evelyn shook her head frantically, afraid she might see something she shouldn't. She kept her head down.

"You stole my quilt. What am I supposed to cover myself with?"

"Just lend it to me for a second. I'll give it right back!" Evelyn stammered.

Wrapped in the quilt, she grabbed the paper bag and rushed into the bathroom.

Then she stood in the bathroom and tossed the quilt back onto the bed.

Alexander didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

This girl was really something.

He had seen what she looked like last night.

And now she was pressing herself against the frosted glass door to throw the quilt back.

There was no doubt that the curves of her body were even more confusing.

He didn't know how this girl's mind worked!

Alexander smiled bitterly, pulled the quilt over himself, turned over, and went back to sleep.

His last thought was that the girl had a great figure.

Naturally, Evelyn didn't know about any of this. After she dressed in the bathroom, she took out a brand new set of toiletries from the cabinet.

After washing up, she gently opened the bathroom door and poked her head out.

Alexander was still sleeping.

Evelyn tiptoed out of the bedroom.

She wanted to go back to school first.

But it seemed rude to leave without saying anything to Alexander.

However, Alexander was sleeping now. She couldn't wake him up just to tell him she was going back to school.

Maybe Alexander would get angry and want to kill her.

Evelyn looked at the time for a long time. Finally, she decided to prepare breakfast for Alexander first.

By the time it was ready, he should be almost awake.

Then she could go back to school on her own.

So Evelyn went into the kitchen to see what she could cook.

She opened the refrigerator. Besides beer, some fruit, and tea, there was nothing.

It was hard to make a meal without ingredients.

She'd better forget it.

After Alexander got up, he didn't see Evelyn in the bedroom. He washed up, changed his clothes, and walked out.

"Evelyn?"

No one answered.

Alexander frowned.

The girl had left without a word.

Just then, the doorbell rang.

Alexander walked over and opened the video feed. He saw Evelyn standing at the door, her nose red from the cold. She looked pitiful.

Where had the girl gone?

Alexander opened the door. Evelyn entered the building, went upstairs, and found the apartment door already open.

Evelyn came in carrying something and closed the door.

After entering the living room, she saw Alexander sitting on the sofa.

Evelyn felt embarrassed and apologized.

"I'm sorry. I forgot to take the key when I went out this morning!"

"There's no key for this place. I'll tell you the door code later. When you come here, just open the door yourself. Don't ring the doorbell."

"Oh!" Evelyn answered. She carried the things over, set them on the coffee table, and said, "There was nothing in the fridge. I went downstairs to buy some breakfast. I didn't know what you liked, so I bought a lot."

Evelyn said this as she took out the breakfast and placed it on the coffee table.

Alexander looked at Evelyn. For the first time, he thought this girl was very thoughtful.

"Can you cook?"

"A little." Evelyn answered honestly.

For a while, she had really liked cooking. She had learned from the cook at home.

Her sister Victoria had laughed at her for it.

She said that if Evelyn couldn't find a job in the future, she could consider becoming a nanny.

"I'll have Grace buy some groceries and bring them over.

Make a list of what you like." Alexander instructed, then picked up a box of porridge and opened the lid.

Evelyn looked at Alexander, puzzled.

"Do you mean I have to cook in the future?"

"You can cook if you like. You don't have to if you don't want to. Is there a problem?"

Evelyn shook her head. She picked up a hamburger, took a bite, and asked again.

"Do I have to move here?"

"What do you think?" Alexander looked up at Evelyn.

Evelyn was immediately stumped by Alexander's question.

She wanted to say that it would be fine if she didn't move here.

"I have a lot going on at school these days. Can I move in later?" Evelyn had to ask carefully.

"Move in this weekend." Alexander replied.

"I'm busy on Saturday!"

Alexander looked up at Evelyn for a long time.

"I'll move in on Sunday." Evelyn pursed her lips but responded obediently.

She really was busy on Saturday.

It was because the school day activity had its preliminary round on Saturday.

Poor her. She wasn't even ready yet!

She didn't know...
