Chapter 406

Victoria advised Evelyn for a long time. She tried to make her sister abandon this irrational idea. She didn't want Evelyn to make any impulsive decisions. Then she coaxed and pressured Evelyn into making many empty promises.

After Victoria left, Evelyn lay on the bed. She stared at the ceiling and couldn't help but sigh.

It seemed impossible to get her family's support for divorcing Alexander. Her family would just think she had lost her mind.

A strong sense of frustration and powerlessness washed over Evelyn. She felt like what she wanted to do was a stubborn, persistent thing. No one would agree with it. They would just think she was crazy.

After leaving Sterling Manor, Victoria didn't go straight home. Instead, she sat in her car and called Alexander.

Alexander was in a meeting. His secretary answered the phone. She said Mr. Sterling was in a meeting and asked if she could take a message.

Victoria had no choice but to ask Alexander to call her back after the meeting. After hanging up, she couldn't help muttering to herself. "Your wife is suffering from postpartum depression, and you're still in the mood for a meeting!"

After muttering, Victoria felt guilty. Alexander was at work now. It was normal for him to have a meeting. He couldn't just stop doing his job and stay with Evelyn twenty-four hours a day.

It didn't take long for Alexander to call Victoria back. Victoria asked him if he had any conflicts with Evelyn recently. She asked what was going on.

Alexander asked in reply, "What's wrong with Evelyn?"

"She told me today that she wants to divorce you," Victoria replied. "Does your wife have postpartum depression? This kind of illness is terrible. If she doesn't take good care of it, the consequences are very serious!"

"I know," Alexander said, frowning. "I'll have a good talk with Evelyn when I get back."

"Then you go back and talk to her," Victoria explained. "If you have any problems, you should tell us quickly. We can help!"

"Okay, thank you."

"You're welcome. We're also doing this for Evelyn's good."

After calling Alexander, Victoria put away her phone. She started the car and prepared to go home. Halfway there, she suddenly thought of something. She decided it was better to go ask Dr. Caleb Brooks. He was a doctor. He should know more and know how to handle this better.

Alexander came home from work. He saw Evelyn sitting by the window, staring into space.

"Why are you sitting here?" Alexander came over and said. "Be careful not to catch a cold."

"No," Evelyn shook her head.

"I just went to see the baby," Alexander continued. "He just finished drinking milk. Now he's having a good time."

"Oh, I'll go see him later," Evelyn followed.

"Evelyn, when you're out of confinement, let's go to Misty Isle."

"Why do you want to go to Misty Isle all of a sudden?" Evelyn turned to Alexander and asked.

"Don't you like Misty Isle very much?" Alexander said. "It just so happens that we haven't been on holiday for a while. Let's take this opportunity to go to Misty Isle and relax."

"Oh," Evelyn answered for a long time without saying anything else. She took her eyes back and looked out the window.

She really liked Misty Isle. She was interested in going for a walk again. But now she wasn't interested in anything. She just wanted to divorce Alexander.

According to Victoria, she had fallen into evil.

In the afternoon, Evelyn told Lily Thompson that she was tired of having baby meals. She asked if Lily could cook some seafood for her in the evening.

After Lily asked the nutritionist, she cooked some seafood for Evelyn in the evening.

At this moment, Alexander and Evelyn were having dinner. Alexander was peeling shrimp for Evelyn.

"Alexander, when I was very young, I used to peel shrimp myself," Evelyn said this without thinking. Because at that time, her parents almost never took care of her. She could only do what she wanted to eat by herself. Otherwise, she wouldn't get to eat.

Since she had been with Alexander, it was Alexander who helped her peel. She almost forgot that she actually knew how to peel shrimp.

"I know," Alexander said. "But I like taking care of you like this." He peeled the shrimp, dipped it in the sauce, and put it into Evelyn's bowl.

"But you can't peel for me all your life," Evelyn said lightly. "If one day you don't peel for me, I might forget how to peel shrimp. You take care of me so well that I can't even eat."

"No," Alexander replied calmly. "I will peel for you for my entire life."

Evelyn looked up at Alexander. Her lips moved, but she didn't say anything in the end.

"Evelyn, I know the confusion in your heart right now," Alexander said. "You think I have someone else in my heart. It's like a time bomb. You don't know when it will come out to disturb our marriage and life. It makes you feel insecure.

"You said you are addicted to clean feelings. You would rather lack them than abuse them. So you don't accept a relationship that needs to be dealt with.

"Now you have sentenced me to death in your heart. You want to kick me out of your life. That way, you can be out of sight and out of mind. You don't have to worry about being disturbed in your future life.

"Evelyn, have you ever thought about it? Maybe the confusion in your mind is just an illusion you imagined. In fact, it's not real.

"I know that the more I say now, the more I seem to be hiding something. The less you will believe me. So I don't want to force you to face it. I just hope that both of us can calm down and feel each other.

"Even if you don't look at the monk's face, look at the Buddha's face. Look at our son's face and give his father a chance."

Alexander stared at Evelyn and spoke quietly.

Evelyn kept her head down and didn't speak. In fact, she couldn't listen to anything Alexander said now. Alexander's eloquence was very good. She was easily convinced by him. Just like the conflicts they had before. Alexander convinced her in a few words. In the end, it seemed like she was the one making trouble for no reason.

So she didn't want to listen to what Alexander said. She preferred to believe what she saw and felt.

"Alexander, you are excellent," Evelyn said. "You are almost perfect. I live a married life that many people envy. But to be honest, this is not what I want. I don't need a perfect husband.

"I just hope that when I am most helpless, he will be by my side. He will go through the difficulties with me. I just hope that even if I do something that people don't understand, even if he doesn't understand, he will still trust me. He will try to understand why I do it. He won't just persuade me how to do it.

"Alexander, do you remember what I told you? If I and Grace O'Sullivan both fell into the water, who would you save first?

"You answered this question before. I believed what you said. But in fact, when things actually happen, your instinctive reaction is not consistent with what you said before.

"You can say that you were in a hurry to save people at that time. You didn't think so much. You didn't even have time to call back and tell me. But isn't this the most real reaction and thought in your heart, Alexander?

"As long as it's related to Grace O'Sullivan, you won't care about anything else. You really don't care.

"I'm not accusing you of anything. In fact, it's right for you to do so. After all, saving people is important. I don't want to divorce you because you want to save Grace O'Sullivan.

"I'm just fed up with this kind of life. I don't want to live it anymore."

Evelyn was very calm when she said this.
