Chapter 345

"I'm unemployed and stuck at home. Of course I have all the time in the world. It's you who's too busy!" Evie said with a grin.

"I'm not busy either. Just busy this afternoon. What's up?" Victoria answered.

"Nothing much. Just wanted to ask when you're free to come see me!"

"What's the good news for me?"

"..." Evie was speechless for a moment.

"Not free tomorrow. The day after tomorrow works. Where do you want to go shopping?"

"Forget shopping. Just come to my place and keep me company!" Evie replied cheerfully.

"Fine. I'll bring whatever you want to eat."

"No need. There's plenty of food here. Just come and hang out with me!"

"Should I charge by the hour or by the day? By the day, eight hours, twenty percent off!"

"Alright, alright. Name your price!" Evie said, giggling.

"Fine. I'll ask my brother-in-law for reimbursement. Anything else?"

"No, I'll let you get back to work!"

"Okay!"

"By the way, how are things with you and Aiden, sis?" Evie asked.

"Nothing. We just broke up!" Victoria said.

"Did you really break up?"

"Is there anything else to cook?" Victoria replied irritably.

"Oh, you must be really sad right now!" Evie murmured.

"Evie, are you asking for a beating? I'm busy. If you have nothing to say, don't bother me. If you're bored, go have fun with your husband. Leave me alone!"

"My husband's at work. And I'm pregnant now. Can't do that too often!" Evie replied with a laugh.

"Get lost—"

Evie started laughing. After comforting her sister, she hung up.

Honestly, she didn't really understand her sister.

Sometimes she seemed so optimistic, like she wouldn't even flinch if the sky fell. Other times, she seemed so pessimistic, like the whole world was against her.

So when Evie tried to help, Victoria told her to get lost. When Evie thought she didn't need help, she worried Victoria would spiral on her own.

What a dilemma!

After a while, Evie finally got up.

She washed up, went downstairs to eat, and then headed to Rose Garden Villa to see her sister-in-law.

She realized she was too lazy to move. Otherwise, she could have a full day's itinerary planned, even if she never left the house.

But when she arrived at Rose Garden Villa, she had to rush to the hospital because her sister-in-law had gone back to see her in the afternoon.

Evie had to return to Sterling Manor and continue knitting her scarf.

Surprisingly, Alexander left work on time today.

He was home before seven o'clock.

Evie was a little surprised.

"Why are you back so early today?"

"Aren't you happy I'm back early?" Alexander asked with a smile.

"Of course not. I'm overjoyed." Evie cackled in response.

"I suddenly felt like having ramen. I wanted to eat it with you." Alexander smiled, hugged Evie, and explained.

"Ramen's easy. I'll cook it for you. Want poached eggs?" Evie asked.

How could there be such an easy request!

She couldn't do much else, but she could cook ramen perfectly.

"I'll take a bath first while you cook." Alexander said, then pulled Evie up to go upstairs together.

Right now, Evie was standing in front of the marble counter in her apron. The real chef was Alexander, frying the poached eggs.

"How do you want it cooked?" Alexander asked.

"Medium rare!"

"Too raw. Better well done. Well done!" Alexander said.

Evie rolled her eyes. He was just asking to amuse her!

Besides, eggs were either runny or hard. What was medium rare!

"Is one enough?" Alexander continued.

"Whatever you think is enough!" Evie answered simply.

If she said two, Alexander would surely say eating two at once was too much cholesterol and unhealthy.

Alexander turned his head and looked at Evie with a smile.

"Evie, you've been talking for a long time!" he said, not in a hurry.

"Don't worry. I'm controlling the heat!" Alexander said with a smile.

The two cooperated. To be more precise, one cooked and one supervised. Finally, the poached egg ramen was ready.

Halfway through the meal, Evie looked up at Alexander, remembering what happened between him and Grace.

She didn't know if it was because she was pregnant. She was sentimental and prone to overthinking. Lately, she seemed to think about them a lot.

Alexander looked up at Evie, just catching her staring at him with a dazed expression. He asked.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing. Is the ramen good?" Evie came back to her senses and asked with a smile.

"Don't we eat this often?" Alexander was a little puzzled.

"Why did you come back early from work just to eat ramen today?"

"In the afternoon, while I was working, I suddenly felt that eating ramen with you would make me really happy. So I finished work and came back." Alexander responded.

Evie looked at Alexander with a smile. After a moment, she replied.

"You're full of it!"

"Don't you believe me?" Alexander asked with a smile.

"I believe you, but I also doubt you!" Evie tilted her head and answered.

"Don't you think the ramen I cooked tonight is especially delicious?"

"It's okay. The poached eggs are a little overdone!"

"It's better to eat them well done!"

Evie laughed and didn't argue. She thought Alexander was acting strange today.

Then Alexander's phone rang. He glanced at it, didn't answer, and hung up directly.

"What's wrong?" Evie asked.

"Nothing. Owen called. Asked me to go for a drink!" Alexander said.

"Then you should answer. Even if you're not going, you should tell him. Otherwise, it's rude." Evie said.

"I already refused once. He's still pestering me so persistently. Wife, what do you think I should do? Does Owen really love me all this time, finding every chance to be with me!" Alexander hugged Evie, buried his face in her shoulder, and muttered.

Evie rolled her eyes directly and laughed.

"Nonsense!"

"Didn't you misunderstand that he and I were a couple before?"

"That's because I was misled by Ethan!" Evie retorted.

"Won't you misunderstand me now?"

"Of course not. I don't have a problem. I always doubt you!" Evie said.

At this moment, the phone rang again.

Alexander picked it up and answered directly.

"I don't have time tonight. I want to spend time with my wife. Talk another day if there's anything else!"

Alexander hung up and turned off his phone.

Evie looked at Alexander in a daze.

"Maybe Owen has something urgent!"

"If he has something urgent, he can find his father!"

"..." Evie was speechless for a long time.

Forget it. Let Alexander be happy!

Besides, he was a sensible man. If anything happened, he wouldn't let it go.

Evie picked up the basket, ready to continue knitting the scarf. But Alexander took it away, and then she heard his slightly sad tone.

"It's rare for me to get off work early. Can't you spend more time with me?"
