Chapter 331

"Not everyone sees it that way. Some people are all about their careers. Others are homebodies. I think you're perfect for this life. Being a rich wife and teaching your husband and kids at home suits you!" Emily said with a grin.

"Whatever you say! How's work been lately?" Evelyn asked.

"It's okay. It's not smooth sailing, but it's not terrible either. I'm happy. I learn something new every day and make progress.

Oh, have you talked to Stella recently?" Emily asked.

"No, why?" Evelyn replied.

"Nothing much. I saw her online a couple of days ago. We chatted for a bit, then she said she was busy and logged off.

It was past ten at night. I have no idea what she was up to." Emily said.

"Maybe she was working overtime. How's things with her boyfriend?"

"I don't dare to ask. When she's ready to get married, I'm sure she'll send us an invitation!

Speaking of which, you never told us about your wedding!" Emily complained.

"I know, I know. I'm sorry about that!

I'll definitely let you know for this baby's full moon party!" Evelyn said with a laugh.

"That's more like it! I won't keep you. Get some rest. Pregnant women need their sleep!"

"Thanks. You should sleep too. You have work tomorrow. Good night!"

"Good night!"

After hanging up with Emily, Evelyn continued to lounge on the sofa, bored.

She thought about sending a text to Stella. She wondered how she was doing.

Not long after she sent the message, Stella called her.

"Miss me?" Stella asked, a smile in her voice on the other end.

"Yeah, I miss you!" Evelyn said with a smile. "How have you been?"

"Same old. Just taking things as they come."

"Don't say that. You work so hard. You'll do great. Are you still at work?"

"I quit my job. I'm officially unemployed as of today!"

"If you're unemployed, what does that make the rest of us? Beggars?"

"Don't say that!"

"I'm just kidding. Emily told me it's really inconvenient for you to work now that you're pregnant!" Stella said with a laugh.

"Yeah, it is. So I quit. Hey, keep at it. I'm waiting to hear about your promotion!"

"Just wait. That day will come!" Stella laughed.

"We're looking forward to it!" Evelyn echoed.

They talked for a long time before finally hanging up.

In the dorm, she and Emily were closer. Stella was more of a loner.

But since there were only three of them in the room, they stuck together. Fewer people meant less drama. It was more peaceful than the other dorms.

So she really hoped Emily and Stella would do well after graduation!

By the time Alexander came back, Evelyn was already in bed.

She wasn't fully asleep, though. She was in that half-awake state.

When he came in, she opened her eyes and mumbled a greeting.

"You're back!"

"Still awake?" Alexander replied, walking over and looking down at her.

Evelyn drifted back to sleep and didn't hear his question.

Alexander looked at her, a little exasperated, but the tenderness in his eyes was undeniable.

This little one was teasing him!

He watched her for a long moment, then went into the bathroom to shower.

Today, he had asked Lily to prepare two sets of casual clothes and a set of pajamas.

He could change at home for the next few days.

After his shower, Alexander dried his hair halfway and lay down in the empty space beside Evelyn.

Evelyn stirred, murmuring in slight discontent, but the next second, she instinctively found a comfortable spot in his arms and went back to sleep.

Alexander looked down at her and smiled.

Then he held her close and fell asleep.

After staying at her mother's house for three days, Alexander came to pick Evelyn up after work one evening.

Evelyn had wanted to take advantage of having nothing to do that day.

Her sister was busy with work. Charlotte was busy with work. Emily was busy with work.

Everyone had to work. They were all so busy. She was the only one who didn't have to. It made her a little anxious.

Well, she'd only had two days off, and she was already bored.

How was she going to survive the next few months?

Evelyn's head was spinning.

Her mother was worried and wouldn't let her go out. She insisted she stay home.

Just when Evelyn was bored out of her mind, she got a call from Grace. It surprised her.

"Evelyn, are you busy?" Grace asked, her voice soft on the other end.

"Not busy, Grace. What's up? Why are you calling me?" Evelyn asked with a smile.

"I've been wanting to get in touch. I wasn't feeling well for a while, so I didn't want to bother you."

"Grace, are you feeling better now?"

"Much better. Thanks to you saving me that day."

"Grace, you're too kind. I just did what I could. Please don't worry about it." Evelyn replied.

"I don't want to make a big deal out of it. I won't say too many polite words. I just want to have dinner with you when you're free." Grace said.

"Grace, you don't have to."

"You can't refuse this meal. I'd feel terrible. Besides, it's just a meal. We can catch up, like old friends." Grace insisted.

"How about noon?" Evelyn blurted out.

The next second, she felt it was a bit abrupt. She was about to explain when she heard Grace say.

"Okay, I'll come pick you up at noon. Or what?"

"No, no, that's not necessary. I'll just come straight to you. Where do you want to eat?"

"Okay, I'll send you the address after I've made a reservation!" Evelyn said, finding an excuse to get out for a walk.

She was so bored staying at home all day!

She just didn't expect that having an appointment would be so difficult. Her mother asked who she was meeting, what kind of food they were eating, and when she would be done. She insisted the driver take her, and then pick her up right after she finished eating.

She wasn't allowed to go anywhere else during that time.

Evelyn promised repeatedly that she wouldn't go anywhere else before she was finally allowed to go out.

When she arrived at the restaurant, she saw Grace already waiting for her in the lobby.

Seeing her, Grace stood up and came over.

"Grace, have you been waiting long?" Evelyn asked apologetically.

Her mother had delayed her. Otherwise, she would have left much earlier.

"No, I just got here a little while ago. Let's go in. I booked a private room." Grace said with a smile.

Evelyn nodded and followed Grace and the waiter towards the reserved room.
