Chapter 281

“For the first three months, we have to be careful. We can’t eat just anything. No strenuous exercise, including sex. And no medicine!”

“I’ll go back and ask Mom what else you need to watch out for!” Victoria continued explaining.

“Sis, it’s only been three or four days late. Are you sure?” Evie asked, embarrassed.

“Nonsense. Wasn’t yours always on time before?” Victoria said bluntly.

“Sometimes it’s a day or two early. Sometimes it’s a day or two late.”

“Not this late.”

“That doesn’t mean anything!”

“You’re definitely pregnant! Stupid, if you’re not sure, go buy a pregnancy test from the pharmacy. You’ll know then. You really drive me crazy!”

“I’m too embarrassed to buy one!” Evie said awkwardly.

“Seriously? Do you want me to buy it for you?”

“No, no. I’ll buy one tomorrow!” Evie smiled.

“Forget it. Who made me your sister? I’ll buy it. You come back tonight and check!” Victoria said, sounding defeated.

“No, no. I’d rather wait a couple of days.”

“Wait for what? Until the baby is born to confirm you’re pregnant?”

“That’s not possible!”

“With your ditzy personality, anything is possible! Are you too embarrassed to talk to Alexander about it?”

“I’m just not sure yet!” Evie stammered.

“Didn’t you just say that? If you’re not sure, buy a test stick. If you want to be extra safe, I’ll go with you to the hospital for a check-up. Problem solved. I don’t know what you’re struggling with!”

“Alright. Do you have the day off tomorrow?”

“Even if I don’t, I’ll make one. Forget it, I’ll pick you up tomorrow!”

“Thanks, Sis!”

“You’re welcome!” Victoria rolled her eyes.

“By the way, I asked you last week about having dinner with your boyfriend. When are you free?” Evie asked.

“We’re both free. It depends on when my brother-in-law is available!” Victoria replied.

“I’ll ask him later and let you know!”

“Okay. No rush. My brother-in-law is busy!”

“He really is. He works overtime for days after a business trip. I’ll ask first and then tell you!”

“Alright. Take care of yourself!”

“Okay!”

After hanging up with her sister, Evie sent a text to Alexander.

“Alexander, I forgot about inviting my sister and her boyfriend to dinner last week. Can you spare some time these two evenings?”

After sending the message, Evie went back to the secretarial office and continued working.

Alexander replied quickly.

“Evenings are fine.”

Evie responded.

“Then I’ll tell my sister!”

She then sent a text to Victoria.

“Sis, is tonight okay?”

Victoria replied immediately.

“Yes. Let’s book the restaurant!”

“Okay. Send me the address later. But I’m paying tonight. Don’t fight me on it!”

“Don’t worry. You’re a rich woman now. I won’t fight you!” Victoria replied.

“I hate it. I’m being serious!”

Evie replied with a smile.

In truth, she was curious about what kind of man her sister would like.

She had heard her sister had a fiancé once, but they broke up. Later, she learned her sister had been deceived.

After listening to her mother, she found out that it was her that Mrs. Sterling had been interested in first, not one of them.

So, whether her sister was engaged or not, she was the only one who had to consider if she was willing to marry into that family.

Her sister had said she had a fiancé just to appease her.

To be honest, she was quite upset when she learned the truth. But she gradually got over it.

Her sister had always been strong, but she was chosen by the family. Maybe deep down, her sister felt a little lost.

Whether she was willing or not was one thing. Not being liked was another.

Besides, she had always known her sister’s personality. So she never really believed in her so-called fiancé.

Now, she had found a good home through a blessing in disguise. She also hoped her sister could find her own happiness.

Soon, it was time to leave work. Victoria sent Evie the restaurant address for 7:30 PM.

Evie thought she could go home after work, change clothes, and dress up a bit before going out.

She forwarded the address to Alexander and told him she would go home to change after work, then come back to the company to meet him.

Alexander called her directly. “After work, let’s go back together.”

Evie agreed, thinking it was rare for Alexander to leave work so early!

Evie finished what she was doing and it was almost time to leave.

After cleaning up, she told Secretary Harper she had plans for the evening and left work early.

Secretary Harper replied with a smile, “Okay, it’s time to get off work too!”

Secretary Parker joked.

“Evie, are you going on a date with Mr. Sterling?”

“No, I have an appointment with my sister!” Evie explained with a smile.

“See you tomorrow!”

“See you tomorrow!”

Evie walked out of the secretarial office just as Alexander was leaving work, walking towards her.

Evie looked at him with a smile.

“Great minds think alike?”

When they reached the elevator, Evie turned to Alexander and asked with a smile.

“This is called tacit understanding!” Alexander said.

Evie smiled.

“Isn’t that what I just said?”

The two went downstairs to the underground parking lot.

Evie got into the passenger seat and said while fastening her seatbelt.

“Let’s go back, change clothes, rest a bit, and we can almost leave. It’s at 7:30. Let’s get there 15 minutes early. So, let’s arrive at 7:15!”

When they got home, Evie took a bath first, while Alexander sat on the sofa to rest.

After a long bath, Evie came out of the dressing room and asked Alexander for advice.

“Alexander, does this outfit suit me?”

Alexander looked up and saw Evie wearing a three-quarter-sleeve knitted top with a pair of light blue cropped jeans. It was casual and elegant.

“This is fine!” Alexander said.

“Good!” Evie replied with a smile.

She didn’t need to change clothes anymore. Just now, in the dressing room, she was still conflicted, not knowing which outfit to wear.

Originally, she wanted to wear a skirt, but she didn’t think it was very convenient. Finally, she changed into pants.

Alexander changed his clothes later, which also matched Evie’s.

Alexander walked out of the dressing room and said with a smile.

“Are we going out in matching outfits?”

The clothes he was wearing were all prepared in advance by Evie.

“I think these two sets just match!” Evie said with a smile.

“It’s really a good match. A man and a woman, a match made in heaven!” Alexander nodded and commented.

Evie couldn’t help but laugh and asked.

“What time is it? Should we start?”

“Almost!” Alexander looked at his watch and said.

Evie changed her bag and followed Alexander out of Sterling Manor.
