Chapter 269

“Yeah, we have to work around the clock!” Stella said with a grin. “When I get back to my dorm, I’ll keep at it. I have to push through!”

“Go for it. Good luck!” Emily replied with a smile.

“You too! By the way, with you and Evie being so close, maybe you can get a contract through her!”

“You’re dreaming. Evie doesn’t have a chance to pull any strings. Do you think I do?”

“Ha, true. Come on, let’s both work hard!” Stella laughed.

“Yeah, we can make it on our own!”

“Right. Let’s do this!”

After hanging up with Stella, Emily got back to work.

It was better to be down-to-earth and do a good job than to envy others.

At noon, Emily had lunch with Evie.

Evie had probably been doing physical work all morning. Now she was so hungry she could eat a horse.

“Evie, did you skip breakfast?” Emily asked.

“No, I ate a full meal before I left.” Evie glanced at Emily and replied.

“The way you’re eating, I’d think you hadn’t eaten in three days!”

“I was really hungry. I was busy all morning. Weren’t you busy too?” Evie asked, her mouth full of food.

“Of course I was. I have to run out to see clients this afternoon!” Emily said.

“Good luck. I hope you come back after signing a deal!”

“I’ll take that blessing from the president’s wife!”

Evie quickly reached out and covered Emily’s mouth!

Emily blinked, then burst out laughing.

“Eat!” Evie pulled her hand away and said.

Then she grabbed a tissue and wiped her hand. “My hand is all greasy!”

“Serves you right. I don’t think your hands are germ-free!” Emily rolled her eyes.

She didn’t mind, though!

“I washed my hands!” Evie said with a smile.

“There are still germs!”

“What do you want then?” Evie laughed. “Want me to use my mouth to shut you up?”

“Gross. Do you think you’re some overbearing CEO?” Emily rolled her eyes again.

“I wouldn’t mind being one!” Evie chuckled.

“Does your husband use that line on you to get you to shut up?” Emily asked in a low voice.

“Nonsense! No way!” Evie shot Emily a look.

Emily laughed even more smugly.

“If I ever lose my job, I’ll write a novel. I’ll base it on you and the boss. A love story about a domineering CEO falling for me. It’ll sell like crazy. I won’t have to work all day. I’ll just count money at home!”

“I think you’re obsessed with money!” Evie scolded with a laugh. “You’ll probably go bald from pulling your hair out before you even write a word!”

“Ha! Don’t curse me like that!” Emily blinked pitifully.

Evie couldn’t help but laugh. “Eat up. You have to go out for business this afternoon.”

“Sigh. Maybe if I can’t sign a deal, I’ll just bring back a domineering CEO instead!”

Evie was amused by Emily, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.

“I wish you a happy marriage. May you get married soon!” Evie said with a smile.

“Damn it! You’re cursing me!”

“Your target is a domineering CEO. You’ll be trampled on every day!” Evie continued.

“Don’t think I’m afraid of you just because you’re the president’s wife!” Emily replied with a grin.

Evie looked at Emily with a smile. After a moment, she said, “Emily, as long as you’re happy, it doesn’t matter who you marry!”

The two of them ate and laughed together.

Because of the dinner party that evening, they would leave work early in the afternoon.

The atmosphere in the secretarial office was more relaxed and lively than usual.

“It seems our president’s office hasn’t had a dinner party in almost half a year, right?” Chloe said.

“Yeah, I think it’s been a long time!” Ella echoed.

“We didn’t have a group dinner, but they gave us meal tickets to go on our own. We could arrange our own time!” Amy looked up and said.

“Oh, right. I almost forgot. Last time I took my son to eat, he loved it!” Ella said with a smile.

“I went with my wife. She said I’m not allowed to change jobs. I have to retire at Sterling Group so she can have a big meal often!” Madison, who usually didn’t gossip much, chimed in.

Everyone immediately laughed.

“Yeah, the company’s benefits are really good!”

“Evie, you need to work hard!” Ella turned to Evie and said.

“Oh, okay!” Evie nodded with a smile.

She worked very hard, but whether she could sign a contract in the end wasn’t up to her to decide!

“Evie, dress up tonight!” Amy said with a smile.

“Huh?” Evie turned her head and looked at Amy in surprise.

“Yeah, yeah. Evie needs to look pretty. Among us, Evie is the only one who isn’t married yet!” Chloe said with a smile.

Evie was embarrassed!

She wanted to say she was married, but she was too shy to say it.

Her face turned red.

“Don’t tease Evie. Look, she’s blushing!” Ella said with a smile.

“Do you think Mr. Sterling will bring his wife to dinner tonight?” Madison said.

“How could he? I’ve never seen Mr. Sterling bring his wife to the company, let alone to a dinner!”

“Yeah, Mr. Sterling keeps his wife hidden very well! Like she’s a treasure!”

“She is a treasure. Mr. Sterling’s wife is young and beautiful!”

Everyone was gossiping.

Evie didn’t dare say a word.

But she couldn’t help groaning inside—

If the people in the secretarial office knew she was Mrs. Sterling, she wondered if they would just cut ties with her directly!

After work, everyone started to figure out how to get there.

“Evie, how are you getting there?” Ella turned to ask Evie.

“I… I have a car!” Evie replied awkwardly.

She didn’t have a car, but someone did. She was just going with him.

Forget it. She’d better just have the driver take her.

“We’d better not drive. We’re supposed to drink tonight. It’s safer!” Amy said at this point.

“Yeah, I almost forgot. I won’t drive either!” Chloe replied.

So, instead of taking each other’s cars, the four of them decided to share a taxi.

And Evie had someone to pick her up, so they didn’t need to worry about her.

“Evie, it must be nice having your family pick you up and drop you off every day like this!” Ella said to Evie.

“It’s okay. Most of the time, it’s on the way!” Evie replied with an embarrassed smile.

“Evie is a lucky girl. I can tell she grew up in a honey pot!” Chloe said with a smile.

Evie just nodded and smiled. She didn’t deny that.
