Chapter 268

Alexander Sterling looked at Evelyn with a mix of tears and laughter. "Evie, you're teasing me!"

"No. I just think your position isn't easy to hold. People won't consider your struggles. They only care if the results benefit them. They don't care what methods you use to get those results. So from my point of view, profit and company growth have nothing to do with me. I just hope you don't work too hard. Don't overwork yourself. I don't have high material needs. I'm happy as long as we're together. I also know men need career achievements to feel fulfilled. So what you're chasing now isn't material pleasure. It's spiritual satisfaction and an unavoidable responsibility. I can't help you right now. But I'll study hard. I'll try to help you in the future." Evelyn said seriously.

"Evie, come here." Alexander put down his pen. He waved her over.

"What's wrong?" Evelyn put down her book. She walked over and asked.

Alexander didn't say anything. He just pulled her into his arms. He hugged her tightly. "Let me hold you for a while."

"Oh." Evelyn had no choice but to let him hold her.

After a long silence, Evelyn suddenly spoke. "Are you hungry?"

Alexander was stunned for a moment. He looked up at her and laughed.

"If I say I'm hungry, what will you do about it?"

"I'll buy you something to eat. If you can't figure something out right now, you'll have enough to think about it again. Maybe the answer will come soon." Evelyn replied seriously.

Alexander looked at her with a smile.

Evelyn felt a little embarrassed. "I'm serious. When you're full, you're in a good mood. When you're in a good mood, your mind is open and clear. It's easier to solve problems when you think about them, right?"

"Alright, I'll listen to you. All the staff in the president's office will have dinner together tonight." Alexander said.

"Ah?" Evelyn stared at him in shock.

She meant buying him some snacks right now. Not having dinner in the evening!

"It's better to have a proper meal when you're full. Maybe the problem will be solved by tomorrow."

"You're right. There's nothing that can't be solved." Evelyn said with a smile. "Go back to work."

She opened his hands and walked back to the bookshelf to continue organizing the books.

"Evie, are those books more important than me?" Alexander asked.

"They're not more important than you. But it's my job. I have to finish it on time, with quantity and quality." Evelyn turned her head and said seriously.

Alexander had to accept his fate.

At the company, work was always more important than her husband.

Evelyn finished organizing the books. Then she walked out of the president's office.

As she walked, she thought. Why did both of them like asking others to organize their things?

Well, they were too busy. They had to leave such trivial matters to other people. Like her.

As soon as Evelyn returned to the secretary's office, she heard Amelia Harper informing her about the dinner tonight.

"Are we really having dinner tonight?" Evelyn asked in dismay.

She thought Alexander was joking with her!

"Yes. Grace Miller just sent an email. All colleagues in the president's office will have dinner together tonight." Amelia explained with a smile.

"Do I need to go?" Evelyn asked.

What she really thought was that she didn't want to have dinner with Alexander.

After all, with the lesson from last night, she was starting to feel scared about things like dinner parties.

"Of course. Didn't you hear me say all colleagues? Even though you're still an intern, as long as you work in our office for one day, you're one of us." Ella Baker said with a smile.

"That's right." Chloe Parker echoed. "It's a big meal. Evie, don't miss it."

"Oh, okay." Evelyn nodded.

She was happy to have a big meal. But she didn't know if there would be wine at the dinner party.

Even though she was with Alexander, she could have a drink. But if she got drunk like last night, she didn't know what she might do.

Well, anyway, her internship was ending this month. And her relationship with Alexander was almost over.

Oh, she meant it was about to be exposed.

So she didn't need to be too nervous.

Evelyn did some mental preparation. She felt quite calm.

She turned on the computer and continued working on unfinished tasks.

At that moment, Emily Hart was sorting out a list of potential clients. She received a message from Stella Moore. Stella asked how things were going with Evelyn.

Emily replied, "It's like this. Evelyn is already married. And the person she married is our boss. She's the real president's wife, Mrs. Sterling."

Emily put down her phone and was about to continue working. Her phone rang.

Seeing it was Stella, Emily had to pick up.

"Didn't you see the message I sent you?" Emily asked.

"I saw it. That's why I'm calling you. Is Evelyn really married?" Stella said excitedly on the other end.

"She's not just married. She's very married. I can assure you. It's not gossip. It's a fact." Emily answered.

"Oh my god. Evelyn is really married. I thought she was joking with us."

"No. I asked her this morning. She got married at the end of last year." Emily held her phone between her shoulder and ear. She answered the call while continuing to work.

"Why didn't she tell us?"

"She might be embarrassed."

"What's there to be embarrassed about? Marriage isn't something shameful."

"You know Evelyn's personality. She's always been conservative. Getting married before graduation must be a lot of pressure for her." Emily continued after looking around.

"But the person she married is the president of Sterling Group. That's such a wonderful thing."

"Everyone has different ideas."

"When did you say Evelyn got married?" Stella asked again.

"At the end of last year."

"Wasn't her family going bankrupt at that time?"

"It should have been resolved." Emily hesitated.

She wasn't very clear about the specific situation.

"It couldn't be that your boss saved the day. He helped Evelyn's family through the financial crisis. And then Evelyn agreed to marry him out of gratitude."

"I think I read a lot of novels. I have a rich imagination. I didn't expect your imagination to be richer than mine." Emily sighed.

"I think my analysis is quite reasonable. But anyway, Evelyn really found a good place. With a family like that, why does she need to intern? She's directly the boss's wife. Unlike us, who have to work hard just to sign a contract with the company." Stella sighed.

"Evelyn also works hard. She wants to sign the contract smoothly through her own strength. You see how hard she works. Shouldn't we work just as hard?" Emily said with a smile.
