The evening felt warm and cozy.
Maybe it was a little awkward before because of the silence. Now Evelyn mediated, and Alexander was there. It became lively and harmonious.
Alexander habitually peeled shrimp for Evelyn. Evelyn grew more used to his care.
According to Victoria, seeing them together made her want to get married.
Then Evelyn said, "You shouldn't marry too casually. After all, a man like Alexander takes patience to find!"
"You're a blind cat catching a dead mouse! Wrong, it's a perfect match!" Victoria rolled her eyes.
Then Evelyn laughed proudly.
"It's a blessing in disguise! It means I'm lucky!"
"So lucky that people get jealous!"
"Just be jealous, don't be envious!"
The sisters loved bickering like this.
At dinner, Amelia brought up Victoria's boyfriend.
The dining room atmosphere suddenly turned tense.
Victoria's face darkened.
Evelyn smiled and said, "Mom means we should have dinner with sis and her boyfriend sometime. Get to know him. This is my first chance to meet him!"
"Okay, let's see when it's convenient." Alexander followed.
"Alexander is free, so we can do it!" Victoria took the chance to back down, avoiding a direct fight with her mother.
"If you don't mind, next week works? I have a business trip tomorrow and will be back next week!" Alexander said.
"Alright, when Alexander returns from his trip, we'll set a date!" Victoria replied.
"I'll call you later!" Evelyn said.
So that little episode passed.
The family continued joking, eating dinner, and making lots of noise.
It was past ten when Evelyn went back with Alexander.
Evelyn and Alexander talked about her parents. Anyway, her sister was with her boyfriend.
"Mom thinks if sis really ends up with him, she'll have a heavy burden in the future. After all, sis has had a good life since childhood. Plus, she has a stubborn personality. Mom is afraid she'll suffer after marriage!"
"Elders' words always have some truth. You can use them for reference, but don't blindly follow. It's reasonable for mother-in-law to have such concerns, but she won't directly deny it!" Alexander said.
"I don't think it's right to directly object to them being together when I've just met him and don't know him well. That's why I suggested finding a chance for us to have a meal with sis and her boyfriend. Let's get to know him, and help sis check him out!" Evelyn nodded.
"Yes, I'll come back from my business trip and take a night off. Then you can arrange it!"
"Thank you, my husband!"
"Thank me? If I didn't agree, you wouldn't have a conflict with me in the future!"
"No, I'm not that petty!"
"Who ignored me last night because of the review?" Alexander teased.
"That person must not be me!" Evelyn played dumb and denied it!
Alexander looked at her with a smile and didn't push.
As long as she was happy.
After returning to Sterling Manor, Evelyn couldn't help saying to Alexander, "Alexander, I feel really happy!"
"What's the matter?" Alexander looked at her and asked.
"Just meeting you and marrying you! In this way, Ethan is half our matchmaker. Find a chance to give him a gift!"
"His birthday is coming. You can start preparing now!" Alexander said with a smile.
"Really? What should I give him?" Evelyn looked up at Alexander and asked.
"Isn't that something the gift giver should consider?"
"It's in both our names. Of course, you have to help think about it!" Evelyn said, holding Alexander's hand.
"Ethan didn't like the gifts I gave him before. Last time you gave him an intelligence toy, he really liked it! Otherwise, you'd better give him another one!" Alexander said.
"How can you be so perfunctory!" Evelyn pouted and muttered.
"Then think carefully about what's more suitable to give him!" Alexander encouraged.
"How long until it?" Evelyn asked.
"About three months!"
"What? It's still so long, and you said it was coming!" Evelyn resisted the urge to roll her eyes.
"Just giving you plenty of time to prepare, okay?" Alexander asked with a smile.
"I really don't know how your little nephew works!" Evelyn fought for Ethan. "Little nephew can't be a man, so I have to trouble my aunt! Our family will depend on you to be the man in the future!" Alexander looked down at Evelyn and said with a smile.
Evelyn's face turned red from Alexander's words.
Back at Sterling Manor, Evelyn sat on the sofa watching TV after taking a bath.
Alexander's phone rang. Evelyn turned to the bathroom and shouted, "Alexander, your phone is ringing. Do you want me to bring it to you?"
"You can answer it for me!" Alexander replied from the bathroom.
"No, what if it's someone from the company calling you!" Evelyn pouted.
Then they'd ask who she was, and how would she reply?
"You can see who it is first!" Alexander said with a smile.
Evelyn hesitated for a long time, then got up to get the phone.
Seeing it was Owen calling, Evelyn picked up and said, "Owen, Alexander is taking a bath. Wait a moment, and I'll ask him to call you back!"
There was no sound on the other end of the phone.
Evelyn called out twice more.
Still no one responded. Then there was a beep as the call ended.
"What's wrong? Why did it disconnect?"
Evelyn muttered to herself.
The next second, she worried about something.
So she took the phone, went to the bathroom door, and said to Alexander, "Alexander, it was Owen who called you just now. I answered, but there was no sound, and then the line went dead. Do you want to call him back now? Is something wrong?"
At that moment, the bathroom door opened. Evelyn looked up and faced Alexander's bare upper body, still covered with water droplets.
"What could be wrong?" Alexander asked.
"I don't know, the call dropped!" Evelyn avoided Alexander's gaze, her face a little hot.
Even though she had been married for over half a year, Evelyn still wasn't used to directly facing Alexander's shirtless body.
Alexander took the phone and called Owen back.
Evelyn then went into the bathroom, took a bath towel, helped Alexander wipe off the water droplets on his body, and then went into the dressing room to get his nightgown, afraid he would catch a cold.
The phone rang for a long time, and then Owen's voice came through.
"You just called. Something wrong?" Alexander asked.
