Evelyn followed her sister-in-law's gaze.
Across the street, at the entrance of the Japanese restaurant, Alexander was getting out of a car, buttoning his suit jacket.
"That's Gray!" Evelyn answered cheerfully.
"Hey, who's that girl talking to him?" Vivian asked in surprise.
"She looks familiar, like I've seen her somewhere!" Julia came over for a look and said.
Just as Evelyn was about to say, isn't that Grace? She heard her second sister-in-law say, "She looks a bit like Gray's first love!"
"You didn't say that, I didn't really remember. It's the one named Grace or something. Gray took her home once. Haven't seen her in years. She's gotten prettier!" Vivian exclaimed.
"Isn't that Grace O'Sullivan?" Evelyn asked, a little puzzled.
"Yes, it's Grace!" Julia echoed.
The next second, maybe realizing something, Vivian quickly said, "Evelyn, don't overthink it. Maybe they're just talking business!"
"It's okay. I know Grace. She's still my friend!" Evelyn replied with a smile.
"Oh, so you know Grace! That's no problem then! They broke up years ago. They probably haven't been in touch! I mean, except for business, there must be no private contact!" Julia explained with a stiff smile.
"It's okay. I trust Gray!" Evelyn said with a smile, then changed the subject. "Second sister, third sister, let's eat while it's hot. The food won't taste good when it's cold!"
During dinner, Evelyn laughed and talked with Julia and Vivian. Her mood didn't seem affected by the episode.
After dinner, they went home.
Sterling Manor, where Evelyn lived, was in a different direction from Julia and Vivian's villas. So they parted ways at the main house.
"Second sister, third sister, I had a great time today!" Evelyn said with a smile.
"Just be happy. Don't think too much about Gray!" Julia advised.
"No, it's nothing!" Evelyn said with a smile.
"Well, let's go back and rest early. Bye!"
"Okay, second sister, third sister, bye!" Evelyn waved with a smile, then turned and walked towards Sterling Manor.
Julia and Vivian went in the same direction.
"Do you think she really doesn't care, or is she pretending?" Vivian asked Julia in a low voice.
"It should be nothing!" Julia turned to Vivian and said.
"Second sister, are you really that naive, or are you faking it? Let's not even talk about whether Gray and his first love have something going on or not. Just say that Evelyn didn't react at all when she saw them together. For example, if you saw your husband with his first love, wouldn't you feel anything?"
"If they dared to meet in private, I'd crush him!" Julia replied excitedly.
"Exactly. How could you not feel anything in that situation? So either she's too good at pretending, or she's known about it for a long time, so she wasn't surprised."
"Evelyn doesn't seem like she's pretending!" Julia muttered.
"If it doesn't look like that, then what else?" Vivian snorted coldly.
Julia turned to Vivian and said slowly after a moment, "Maybe things aren't as complicated as we think!"
Evelyn returned to Sterling Manor, but Alexander hadn't come back yet.
After dinner, she went upstairs to take a bath.
Now she sat on the sofa in the second-floor living room, holding a pillow, feeling very depressed.
Alexander came home and saw Evelyn sitting on the sofa, motionless.
"Evelyn, what's wrong?" Alexander put his briefcase on the coffee table, sat down beside her, and asked.
Evelyn turned her head and looked at Alexander with a pitiful expression.
"What happened?" Alexander asked, stroking her face.
"Gray, I spent a lot of money today!" Evelyn said, on the verge of tears.
"I thought something happened. Spend it."
"No, I spent a lot of money today!" Evelyn repeated.
"How much did you spend?" Alexander asked.
"You won't get angry!" Evelyn warned alertly.
"Okay!" Alexander nodded.
"It's okay if you get a little angry. Who told me to spend so much all of a sudden!" Evelyn pouted.
"What did you spend?"
"Today, I went shopping with my second sister and third sister. Later, I went to the beauty salon to get a facial, and then--" Evelyn said, glancing at Alexander, carefully observing the change in his expression.
"And then?" Alexander asked with a smile.
"Then I ordered a beauty package, and the package was..." Evelyn's voice got smaller and smaller. "What do you want?"
"It's going to be ninety!" Evelyn simply gave up.
"And then?"
"What then?" Evelyn was a little confused. She looked up and asked Alexander.
"The package cost ninety, and then what?"
"Then I spent ninety thousand! What should I do now? I don't know if they'll give it back to me!" The more she thought about it, the sadder she got.
"Did second sister and third sister ask you to order it?" Alexander asked.
"Yes... No, I ordered it myself!" Evelyn answered, and the next second she realized it was wrong, so she quickly changed her words.
"You like it!" Alexander touched Evelyn's head and said with a smile.
"No, did you hear what I just said? I said ninety-eight thousand dollars, not nine thousand, not even nine thousand eight hundred!" Evelyn quickly stressed.
"I heard it!"
"Aren't you angry?"
"Why would I be angry?" Alexander asked.
"I spent so much money all at once. My internship salary is less than five thousand a month, and it's only a little over four thousand after taxes. Ninety-eight thousand is equivalent to two years of work without eating or drinking before I can save it!" The more Evelyn calculated, the more distressed she became.
"It's okay. Your salary card is with me. I'll give it to you when you pay it off. You can pay it back slowly. I won't set a time limit!" Alexander said with a smile.
"But I haven't paid off the old debt yet, and a new one is coming. I'll be paying it off for a long time!" Evelyn cried without tears.
"It doesn't matter. If you can't finish it in this life, you can continue in the next!" Alexander leaned close to Evelyn and kissed her forehead to comfort her.
"Ah?" Evelyn stared blankly at Alexander.
"Well, don't worry about such a small thing. I'm going to take a bath. You should get some rest!" Alexander said, got up, picked up his briefcase, and went into the study.
When he came out, Evelyn was still sitting on the sofa. Alexander went over and directly pulled her up and led her into the bedroom.
Evelyn sat on the bed, continuing to think with a depressed face about whether she should find a way to earn some extra money.
Otherwise, at the current rate of debt accumulation, she estimated that she would really be paying it back in the next life.
Oh, forget it. She didn't know how long she would be in this life. She'd worry about the next life later.
Alexander came out of the bedroom after taking a bath and pinched Evelyn's nose. "Little fool, still thinking about that?"
Evelyn looked up at Alexander. "So much money!"
"It's just a gift from your husband!"
"No, I ordered it myself. I'll pay for it myself!" Evelyn replied with backbone.
"Well, let you owe it first. Pay it back when you have money."
"What if I can never pay it back!"
"Then I'll pay it back!" Alexander said quietly.
"Ah?" Evelyn widened her eyes and looked at Alexander in astonishment!
