"And there are bodyguards following too!" the boss added.
"Really? For real?" Evelyn's eyes lit up instantly.
"Yes, they follow in another car behind yours. They're not just bodyguards, they're taking the heat for you too!"
"Get out of here!" the cashier and waiter rolled their eyes.
Evelyn placed the cake box on her lap and set the bouquet on the passenger seat, afraid of crushing them.
Alexander turned his head and studied her carefully. "I wonder what kind of treasure you're holding."
"This is my baby!" Evelyn replied with a grin.
It would be a lie to say she wasn't moved.
She never expected Alexander to actually celebrate their six-month marriage anniversary.
For her, all of this was touching and heartwarming.
"Are you going to treasure them and keep them as a souvenir for the future?" Alexander teased.
"Ha, you just gave me an idea! I totally forgot to take pictures. I need to snap some when we get back. And the flowers—I should turn them into dried ones. They can be bookmarks later." Evelyn said excitedly.
Alexander rubbed his forehead, looking pained. He regretted making that comment.
Evelyn didn't notice his discomfort at all.
Once they returned to Sterling Manor, she got busy.
First, she photographed a third of the cake she'd eaten. Then she took shots from every angle—north, south, east, west. After that, she filmed a 360-degree video of the flowers with no blind spots. She even added a voiceover—
"On this day, in this month, in this year, someone and someone celebrated their six-month marriage anniversary. This is a gift from someone. Blah blah blah..." She rambled on before finally finishing the shoot.
Alexander sat on the sofa, watching her childish behavior with a mix of tears and laughter.
Just then, his phone buzzed with a text message.
He picked it up, glanced at it, and deleted it.
The message was simple—
"Sorry to disturb you!"
After Evelyn finished taking photos and videos, she carefully covered the cake and put it in the fridge.
She found a vase, arranged the flowers, and admired her work.
Then she walked over to Alexander with her phone, sat down, switched the camera to front-facing mode, and tried to take a selfie of them together.
Unfortunately, her arms weren't long enough. She couldn't get Alexander's whole face in the frame.
Alexander reached for her phone, wrapped his other arm around her, pressed the shutter, and handed it back.
Evelyn took the phone, opened the album, and looked at the photo.
Alexander wasn't looking at the camera. He was looking down at her. She was staring at the lens, laughing like a little fanatic.
Even so, the picture was beautiful.
Evelyn couldn't help admiring his photography skills.
"Alexander, how are you so good at taking pictures?" she exclaimed.
"Naturally, it's because the subject is good-looking," he said with a smile.
"That also requires the person to be good-looking!" she replied matter-of-factly.
"You're pretty," he said, gently stroking her cheek.
"I was talking about you!" she shot back.
"You're beautiful too."
"Not as beautiful as you."
"What do I do if I'm this good-looking?"
"So I can feel good. Every morning I wake up and see such a handsome face. I feel like the world is beautiful, life is beautiful, everything is beautiful!" Evelyn answered with a smile.
Alexander shook his head, laughing. "Did you smear honey on your lips?"
"That's just how it is!" she said seriously.
"Send me that photo," he said.
"What for?" Evelyn looked at him suspiciously.
"Good things should be shared," Alexander said.
"Then keep it on your phone. Don't post it online," she warned.
"Okay," he agreed.
Later, Alexander didn't post the photo online. He just set it as his phone wallpaper.
Later, someone happened to see his wallpaper and was shocked to discover that the president's wife looked exactly like Evelyn!
Later, everyone knew that Evelyn was actually the president's wife!
Evelyn was in tears just thinking about it.
Alexander said he fully complied with her request. He never posted the photo online.
But you set it as your phone wallpaper! Evelyn protested.
My phone is my personal property. What picture I use as my wallpaper is my personal freedom! Alexander had plenty of excuses.
Evelyn was completely deflated.
Alexander was so mean! But she had no way to argue.
She was like a mute swallowing bitter herbs—unable to speak a word of complaint.
Evelyn had always been a diligent and eager learner.
Even during her internship in the secretarial office, she was no exception.
Because of the internship, she came into contact with more and more things. She also realized her own shortcomings more and more.
Evelyn used her evenings and weekends to recharge.
Alexander joked that she was the future successor to the presidency, so diligent and ambitious.
Evelyn looked up at him and asked, "If I really become president, what would you do?"
"I'll be the man behind the president," Alexander said, holding his forehead and smiling.
Evelyn chuckled. "So you want to live off me?"
"It's not bad to live off someone. Not everyone can do it. It takes capital," Alexander said.
Evelyn looked at him, amused by his nonsense. "If you really want to live off me, would you?"
"It would be my pleasure," Alexander nodded.
"Starting tomorrow, you don't have to go to work. I'll support you!" Evelyn announced heroically.
"Are you sure you can support me now?" Alexander asked with a smile.
"Are you hard to support?" Evelyn hesitated.
"It's not hard to support, but it costs a lot of money."
"Oh, you'd better keep working until my salary goes up!" Evelyn patted him on the shoulder.
Alexander burst out laughing. "So much for your ambition!"
"Ambition needs confidence! My salary isn't enough to buy you one thing in a month. Where would I get ambition?" Evelyn said seriously.
"Then I'll support you. You don't have to work."
"That won't do. If I don't work, I'll degenerate into a useless person!"
"Is it that serious?" Alexander said, laughing and crying.
"Of course. People need to keep up with the times. If I stay home every day, I'll get Alzheimer's!"
"Don't worry. You're still decades away from Alzheimer's," Alexander said with a smile.
"If I get Alzheimer's after a long time, will you still remember me?" she asked.
Alexander met her gaze and didn't answer.
"Forget I asked," Evelyn said with an awkward smile, then sat up straight.
"I will remember you," Alexander said slowly.
Evelyn turned her head and looked at him in surprise.
Alexander had already picked up a document and was reading it, as if he hadn't said anything.
But Evelyn's face gradually filled with a smile.
Her face was full of smiles.
