"Why?" Evelyn looked down at her outfit. She had bought it especially for her first day at work! Emily had said it looked great on her!

"I don't like it!" Alexander gave the same stubborn reason.

"Fine. I'll change into something else tomorrow." Evelyn sighed.

She figured Alexander must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed. Why else would he act so strangely?

"If there's nothing else, you should get some rest."

"Okay. You rest too."

"You can use my lounge." Alexander smiled.

"No way. I'm not that stupid. Get some rest. I'm heading back to the office." Evelyn didn't wait for his reply. She hung up quickly.

She was terrified someone might find out about her relationship with Alexander.

Taking a nap in his office? She wasn't that foolish.

Evelyn walked back to the office. Everyone was resting. She moved quietly, trying not to disturb anyone.

Back at her desk, she wasn't sleepy. She continued reading through the documents.

That afternoon, Amy Harper asked her to copy materials for a meeting. She took Evelyn to the conference room to prepare. Later, she asked her to organize a file.

Then, it was time to leave.

Evelyn felt like she hadn't done anything all day.

Amy Harper said there was nothing left to do. She could leave early.

Evelyn agreed, packed up her things, and left first.

She took the bus home from the company.

As soon as she got on, her phone rang. It was Alexander.

"What time do you get off?" he asked.

"I'm already off. I'm on the bus now." Evelyn smiled.

"Wait for me from now on. We'll leave together." Alexander's voice came through the phone.

"Okay." Evelyn paused. "I'll wait for you tomorrow. I'm going home to make dinner first. What time do you get off?"

"Eight o'clock." Alexander said, then hung up.

Evelyn listened to the beeping tone and sighed.

Was Alexander on his period today? Why was he so moody?

No, that was impossible. Alexander was a man. Men didn't have periods.

When Evelyn got back to Sterling Manor, she went upstairs to put her bag away. She changed her clothes and headed to the kitchen to prepare dinner.

"Miss Evelyn, let me know what you and Mr. Sterling want to eat tonight. I'll cook." Lily Thompson said.

"It's okay. I'll cook. You can help me wash the vegetables." Evelyn smiled.

"Of course, Miss Evelyn." Lily replied.

Evelyn checked the refrigerator and picked out a few dishes.

Alexander said he liked her cooking. Even though she wasn't a great chef, he still enjoyed it.

It was an honor to be appreciated by someone as picky as Alexander, right?

Evelyn comforted herself.

After dinner, Evelyn went upstairs to take a bath.

When she came back down, Alexander still wasn't home.

She walked out of Sterling Manor and looked around.

Should she call him and ask if he was leaving work?

If she had known he'd be late, she wouldn't have cooked so early.

Just then, she saw a familiar figure in the distance.

Evelyn blinked and focused on Alexander's silhouette. A smile spread across her face.

He was finally back!

She stood still, waiting for him.

"Hey, is there a watchman at the gate now?" Alexander muttered.

Evelyn laughed. "I'm more like the Weaver Girl waiting for the Cowherd!"

"That's terrible. They only see each other once a year. I'd suffocate." Alexander walked over, put his arm around her shoulder, and sighed.

Evelyn froze for a second. Then she reacted.

Her face flushed. She slapped his arm in protest.

Alexander grabbed her hand, laughing, and held it in his palm. "Is dinner ready?"

"There's no dinner. Just a table full of plain food." Evelyn deliberately contradicted him.

"That's fine. With a beautiful woman by my side, it's the same effect." Alexander led her into Sterling Manor.

"Beautiful women cost money, you know." Evelyn smiled.

"Okay. Is my body enough payment?"

"Haha, no way. I want cash."

"I'm yours. So my money is yours too." Alexander looked back at her with a smile.

"I only want the money. Not you." Evelyn covered her mouth, laughing.

"So cold-hearted." Alexander glanced at her.

"What can I say? The world is a cold-hearted place."

"Fine. Then I'll throw in a bonus." Alexander said.

"What bonus?" Evelyn turned to him.

"Buy one, get one free." Alexander said, then pulled her close and kissed her forehead. "What did you cook tonight?"

"Four dishes and one soup. Exactly what you asked for."

"Looks like I should consider buying one, getting two free."

Evelyn looked at him, confused.

"If I eat more, I'll have more energy tonight. Maybe you'll get pregnant with twins."

"Pervert!" Evelyn's eyes widened.

"Pervert? I prefer the term 'romantic'." Alexander grinned.

Evelyn pouted, stopped talking, and went to wash her hands.

After washing up, she helped Alexander get his food.

They sat down to eat. Alexander had a huge appetite. It was like he hadn't eaten lunch at all.

He finished two bowls and made Evelyn eat half of his third.

"How can you eat so much today?" Evelyn was shocked.

"Your cooking is good."

"Better than the chef in the cafeteria?"

"Worse." Alexander thought for a moment.

"Then why are you eating so much?" Evelyn teased.

"You're my wife. If I don't support you, who will?"

Evelyn looked at him, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.

"Eat. You can eat more. Don't waste food."

"You never ate this much before." Evelyn smiled.

"That was before. It's different now that we're married."

Evelyn wanted to say that they had gone to Elmwood Lane to eat after they got married. But she decided not to.

She just watched him eat happily. And she felt satisfied.

The next day, after breakfast, Evelyn discussed something with Alexander.

"Alexander, let the driver take me to work. You can go earlier. You don't have to wait for me." Evelyn smiled.

"Don't you want to go with me?" Alexander looked at her directly.

"No. I just want to go to the company later." Evelyn laughed nervously.

"Whatever makes you happy." Alexander reached out and pinched her cheek.

"Thank you, husband!" Evelyn blurted out happily.

Alexander stared at her. Evelyn felt embarrassed and just giggled.

"Come here." Alexander said softly.

"Oh." Evelyn didn't know what he wanted, but she obediently got up and walked over.

Alexander reached out, pulled her onto his lap, and kissed her lips.

Evelyn's eyes widened. Then she closed them obediently.

After a moment, Alexander let her go. "Little liar."

Evelyn looked at him blankly. After a while, she muttered, "I didn't lie to you."

"It's written all over your face. 'I lied to you.'" Alexander pinched her nose. "Forget it. Next time you want something, just say it directly. Don't bother making excuses."

"Oh." Evelyn replied.
