Chapter 160

A moment later, Evelyn’s phone buzzed with a text message.

“You’d better cook it!”

She couldn’t help but laugh.

She typed back, “I think it’s delicious!”

“I’ll come home for dinner. You cook it!”

That was Alexander’s reply.

Evelyn noticed his texts were painfully slow.

He seemed to think for ages, struggling to type.

It took several minutes just to send one short message.

“Okay, I’ll go home and cook for you after work!” she replied.

She wanted to laugh, but she held it in.

She didn’t want to hurt his pride.

Smiling, she put her phone down and went back to her meal.

“Evelyn, are you seeing someone?” Emily stared at her, eyes narrowed.

“No! No way!” Evelyn felt her face flush.

She looked up at Emily, confused.

“No? Then who were you texting just now? You had this goofy, lovesick grin on your face!” Emily didn’t believe her for a second.

“It’s my family!” Evelyn touched her own cheek.

“What grin? I was smiling normally!”

“That’s weird! Only people in love smile like that!”

“No, I’ve always smiled like that. My sister always said I look silly when I laugh!” Evelyn laughed again.

It was true.

Victoria always said that.

And Alexander often told her she looked foolish when she laughed.

She was used to it.

“Giggling and smiling with romantic interest are two different things!”

“Oh!” Evelyn nodded, looking like she’d been scolded.

“That’s exactly how you look now! Silly! But I like it!” Emily reached out and pinched Evelyn’s cheek.

Evelyn froze.

“You pervert!”

“Ha ha!” Emily laughed.

They ate and gossiped together.

By the time they finished, Alexander had already left the restaurant.

Evelyn hadn’t even noticed when he left.

Emily had recently gotten hooked on another overbearing CEO novel.

During lunch, she discussed the plot with Evelyn.

She said the CEO’s father threw a five-million-dollar check at the heroine, telling her to leave his son.

Then she asked Evelyn if she were the heroine, would she take the money and leave?

“How much is the CEO worth?” Evelyn blinked, asking Emily.

“He’s an overbearing CEO! Worth at least hundreds of millions, some even tens of billions! Your glasses are so ugly, can you change them?”

“No, these are still fine!” Evelyn answered.

Then she replied to Emily’s question.

“I think it needs a specific analysis. Think about it. If the guy is worth a hundred million, and you can get half his assets after divorce, that’s fifty million. Giving up fifty million for five million isn’t very cost-effective. But you could still consider it. After all, if you don’t get married, you get nothing. But suppose the guy is worth ten billion. Then half the assets after divorce is five billion! Giving up five billion for five million is like giving up ten thousand dollars for one dollar. Unless I have a hole in my head! So whether I take the five million depends entirely on the guy’s net worth!”

Emily looked down at Evelyn, stunned.

“Evelyn, when did you get so smart? You can rationally analyze whether it’s cost-effective or not! Isn’t love supposed to be supreme and priceless?”

“The premise you just gave didn’t include love!”

“Isn’t that nonsense? If there’s no love between a man and a woman, is it even a novel?”

“Not necessarily. It might be that love comes after ninety-nine and eighty-one hardships!”

After lunch, Evelyn and Emily walked out of the staff cafeteria and into the elevator.

Since they worked on different floors, Emily got off first.

She said goodbye to Evelyn and stepped out.

Evelyn continued going up.

Her phone buzzed with a text.

She picked it up and saw it was from Alexander.

It only had a few words—Call me back!

Evelyn thought something was wrong.

She quickly called him back.

“Full?” Alexander asked lazily on the other end.

“Yes, just full. How did you eat so fast? You came later than us, but you finished before us!” Evelyn asked with a smile.

“I don’t have to flirt with a special someone!”

“Huh?” Evelyn replied, confused.

What did that mean?

“Keep your distance from your classmate from now on.”

“Why?” Evelyn walked out of the elevator and stood by the window.

“No why!” Alexander answered directly.

“No, you have to give me a reason. I have a normal relationship with my classmate. Why should I keep my distance?” Evelyn insisted.

“Your classmate touched your face. Is that normal communication? Do you usually act like that in the dorm?” Alexander asked, his voice unhappy.

“Huh? What do you mean? She didn’t touch my face! Oh, she was joking with me. No, she didn’t touch my face. She’s a woman!” Evelyn suddenly remembered Emily’s joke earlier.

She had touched Evelyn’s cheek with her finger.

Was Alexander jealous because of that?

“Didn’t you think I was gay? It’s gay! Oh, I’m wrong. I’m not a lesbian, and neither is my classmate. She likes men. She was just joking with me at noon!” Evelyn explained.

“No matter if it’s a joke or not, it won’t happen again. You’re not going to be jealous over such a small thing, are you?” Evelyn pouted.

Thinking about it, she couldn’t help but feel a little pleased.

“I’m not jealous. I just don’t like my things being touched!” Alexander flatly denied.

“... I’m not a thing!” Evelyn said unhappily.

The next second, she felt like she was insulting herself.

So she changed her words.

“I mean, you can’t say I’m a thing. I’m not a thing. I’m a person!”

“I know. Evelyn, you’re quite lovely when you’re angry!” Alexander chuckled on the other end.

“Huh?” Evelyn was stunned for a moment.

Then she pouted and said, “You’re the one who’s lovely!”

With that, she reached up and pushed her sliding glasses.

“Don’t you like wearing contact lenses?”

“Contact lenses are hard to wear!” Evelyn said.

Why did Alexander’s topic jump so fast?

“Just keep wearing glasses. Even though they’re a little ugly, they suit you quite well!”

Evelyn suddenly felt depressed.

Was that a compliment or an insult?

“Don’t you need to rest at noon?” Evelyn asked.

“I’m resting now.”

“Then you should hang up and rest!”

“I only have time to rest because I’m calling you!”

“Oh!” Evelyn answered for a long time.

“Don’t wear today’s suit anymore!” Alexander added.
