“If the boss has to worry about intern salaries, how can he run a business?” Alexander Sterling asked.
Evelyn Vance thought his words made sense. She couldn’t help nodding.
As soon as they reached the Sterling Group building, Evelyn told the driver to drop her off there.
“Are you sure you won’t be late running to the office from here?” Alexander looked at her and said flatly.
“Of course not!” Evelyn choked on his words. Her face flushed. She lifted her chin and answered with high spirits.
She wasn’t actually short. But standing next to Alexander, she looked like a dwarf.
Still, no one could just say she had short legs. That wasn’t the issue!
“Good luck then. See you later, Mrs. Sterling.” Alexander let out a low, husky laugh.
“See you later—no, I won’t be back until I get off work tonight. I’ll see you in the evening!” Evelyn replied with a smile.
With that, she got out of the car.
The driver drove away. Evelyn looked up at the Sterling Group building not far away.
She felt like she had gotten out of the car a little too early.
But it was too late to regret it now. She could only treat a dead horse as if it were still alive.
And if she didn’t hurry, she would be late.
So Evelyn couldn’t care about anything else. Wearing five-centimeter heels, she ran all the way to the bottom of the Sterling building. Her heart felt like it was about to jump out of her chest.
It was all Alexander’s fault!
She could have come to work early. Now, not only was she not early, but she was also late.
The elevator doors closed right in front of her. Evelyn rushed over and yelled, “Please wait! Please wait a moment!”
The elevator doors shut completely. Evelyn’s heart sank.
“That’s terrible! Why didn’t you wait for me? How can you be so heartless—”
Evelyn complained with a depressed face. She lifted her head. Then she fell silent.
Her big eyes stared at the people inside the elevator.
“Little—” Ethan Sterling was just about to call out.
Seeing someone coming, Evelyn rushed in directly. She covered Ethan’s mouth and scolded him, “What’s wrong with you? Do you have any manners? When you see a beautiful woman coming, you don’t wait a moment? How rude! How are you ever going to get a girlfriend in the future!”
After saying that, she realized the elevator was unusually quiet.
It was so quiet it felt like it wasn’t even moving.
Evelyn felt a chill down her back. She turned her head and saw someone staring at her in surprise.
It was over!
Evelyn couldn’t help crying inside.
She thought Ethan was the only one in the elevator!
But there were other people on the other side!
Evelyn quickly released her hand. She stood awkwardly and apologized with a dry smile, “I’m sorry, I mistook you for someone else!”
Ethan looked at Evelyn and asked, “What’s your name?”
Evelyn suddenly felt like a thousand horses were galloping through her mind.
She shot Ethan a hard look and said, “My name is Lily!”
She couldn’t help thinking, Do you think you’re in some CEO drama?
Even if you wanted to play that role, your uncle is more suited for it!
At most, you could only play a minor thug under the villain for one or two episodes.
“Which department?” Ethan continued asking.
Evelyn wanted to say, Why do you care which department I’m in!
“Sorry, I’m here to deliver a package!” Evelyn said.
“What package?”
“...” You’re doing this on purpose!
At that moment, the elevator stopped. The doors slid open.
Evelyn walked out of the elevator without caring about anything else.
Ethan was about to say that this wasn’t the Sterling Group’s office floor.
But there was no sign of Evelyn anymore.
He had to touch his nose and act like nothing had happened.
Just then, Ethan’s assistant came back and said with a smile, “That girl was really cute just now!”
“No matter how cute she is, don’t get any ideas!” Ethan glanced at his assistant and said.
“How could I? I already have a wife!” the assistant said, half laughing and half crying.
“Hmph. Having a wife is great, huh?” Ethan sneered.
After Evelyn walked out of the elevator, she wanted to take the stairs directly.
So she turned left and went straight. She ended up walking straight into another company.
“Miss, how can I help you?” the front desk asked Evelyn.
“Excuse me, I want to ask where the stairs are?” Evelyn asked awkwardly.
“You’re going the wrong way. The stairs aren’t here. Go out through the gate, turn right, and follow the green safety sign!” the front desk explained.
“Okay, thank you!” Evelyn said awkwardly. She turned and walked out.
Then she turned around and realized it was some investment company, not Sterling Group at all.
She had thought the whole building belonged to Sterling Group. Now she knew she had been thinking too much!
Finally, she arrived at the HR department to report in the last two minutes.
“Why are you here so late?” Emily Hart asked in a low voice.
“Overslept!” Evelyn replied awkwardly.
She hadn’t actually overslept. Someone had made her oversleep. Then she ran into Ethan in the elevator just now, which wasted even more time!
Sigh, it seems like today is just not a good day for anything!
“I was so worried. No one answered your phone!” Emily replied.
“Oh, I forgot to bring my phone!” Evelyn just remembered. She had conveniently left her phone on the dining table and forgotten to put it in her bag.
“You’re so careless! Don’t have any problems at work today!”
“Okay, okay, I’ll be careful.” Evelyn nodded repeatedly.
All ten interns had checked in. After finishing the check-in procedures, they sat in the reception room, waiting for the HR assistant’s arrangements.
They would be assigned to different departments for their internships.
Someone would come to pick them up.
In the end, Emily was assigned to the sales department. Evelyn was assigned to the CEO’s secretarial office. The other eight interns were assigned to different departments.
Evelyn followed Natalie Foster, the HR assistant, into the elevator. They went to the CEO’s secretarial office to report.
When the floor arrived, the elevator doors slid open. Evelyn followed her out.
The next second, she heard Natalie’s voice greeting, “Hello, Mr. Sterling. Good morning!”
Evelyn lifted her head in a daze. Then she looked up at Alexander Sterling. A sweet smile spread across her face. She blurted out, “Hus—” The next second, she suddenly realized something and changed her words to “Good morning, teacher!”
Alexander was stunned for a moment. Even the special assistant beside him was confused.
“Hello!” Alexander showed a meaningful smile. He nodded lightly and stepped into the elevator.
The special assistant looked at Evelyn for a long time. Then he followed Alexander into the elevator with a smile.
Evelyn’s face turned red with embarrassment.
After the elevator doors closed, Evelyn heard Natalie beside her ask in surprise, “Is Mr. Sterling your teacher?”
“No, no!” Evelyn quickly shook her head and said.
Just now, when she saw Alexander, she subconsciously blurted out “husband.” Then she remembered she was in the company, so she changed it to “teacher”!
“Oh, you still think you’re in school. In the future, in the company, don’t call anyone ‘teacher.’ Otherwise, no one will know who you’re talking about! Everyone has a job title. Just use the job title!” Natalie said with a smile.
“Okay!” Evelyn blushed and nodded.
“When you see President Sterling, don’t stare at him like that! President Sterling doesn’t like it!” Natalie reminded her again.
“Oh, okay!” Evelyn answered awkwardly.
She wasn’t staring. She just saw Alexander suddenly and didn’t react in time!
She hadn’t even been looking at Alexander at all.
