Chapter 155

"How can I complain to you? That's not fair!"

"What kind of unfair law is that?"

"I have a connection with you, but others don't. If I solve my problems through you, things get messy. People will think you're using your position for personal gain. That's terrible." Evie said seriously.

"So if you run into trouble at Sterling Group, you won't come to me?"

"No. Not unless it's strictly business." Evie nodded.

"Evie, remember what you said today. I might not take your side if this happens again in the future." Alexander touched her head.

"Ah? Oh, I understand!" She froze for a moment before nodding.

She lowered her head and continued eating dinner.

She understood what he meant. In the future, he wouldn't just be her husband. He would be the CEO of the company. He had to be responsible for the entire company, not just her.

So if something like this happened, he would stay neutral. He wouldn't show favoritism, even if she was his wife.

When she faced a problem, she should try to solve it herself first. She shouldn't rely on him. If it was really serious, she had her own boss to report to.

This was the first workplace rule Evie learned before starting her job.

Later, Alexander told her that even though he might not help her at the office, she could still complain to him when she got home.

Evie laughed and said she wasn't that naive.

But one day, when she was truly wronged at work and wanted to talk to him, she realized things weren't that simple. In the end, she chose to bear it silently.

Two days later, Evie and Emily got another call from Sterling Group's HR department. They were asked to attend the next round of interviews.

From the first written test to the final interview, it took over half a month. In the end, both Evie and Emily made it onto Sterling Group's intern admission list.

"Do you think we're lucky?" Emily tugged at Evie's sleeve, still in disbelief.

"I feel the same way!" Evie covered her mouth and smiled. Going through all those interviews felt like walking a tightrope.

She stumbled along the way, but somehow made it to the other side safely.

It was a strange feeling.

"Should we grab something to eat to celebrate?" Emily said excitedly.

"Yes, let's call Stella."

"I'll call her!" Emily finished, took out her phone, and dialed Stella. "Stella, I'm treating you and Evie to a big meal!"

"What's the occasion?" Stella asked with a laugh on the other end.

"Both Evie and I got accepted by Sterling Group!"

"Congratulations! You definitely have to treat me to a big meal."

"We'll meet up tonight, you'll be happy," Emily said.

"Haha, where are we gathering? I'll put on my rocket boots and come right away."

"South gate. Get on the rocket, quick!"

"Okay, on my way!"

After calling Stella, Emily put away her phone, turned to Evie, and said, "Stella is meeting us at the south gate."

"What should we treat her to eat later?"

"I don't know. She can eat whatever she wants!"

Evie nodded. As she walked, she sent Alexander a message saying she would be home late and was treating her roommates to dinner.

She also excitedly added, "Honey, I got accepted!"

"Do you think we'll be assigned to the same department?" Emily asked Evie as they walked.

"I don't know. It doesn't matter if we're not in the same department. We're still in the same company." Evie smiled.

"That's true. We can learn different things from different departments and then share with each other!"

"Yes!" Evie nodded repeatedly.

They arrived at the south gate first and waited for Stella.

Stella finally showed up after more than ten minutes.

"We've been waiting forever for you to crawl here!" Emily complained.

"I came straight from an interview!" Stella panted.

"Haven't you already been accepted?"

"This one is better. I wanted to check it out," Stella said.

"You're still reading the libretto while riding a donkey!"

"If I get accepted by Sterling Group, I won't consider anything else." Stella smiled.

"Come on!"

Chatting, they walked toward the student street.

"What do you want to eat, Stella?"

"I'm fine with anything. You decide!"

"I said I'm treating. You decide!"

"If I have to choose, let's go for barbecue!"

"Actually, let's go for barbecue!" Evie suggested.

"Evie, why is it always buffet or barbecue with you?" Emily sighed.

"Is it?" Evie smiled.

"Yes!" Emily and Stella answered in unison.

Then everyone laughed.

In the end, they decided on hotpot. Everyone could eat what they wanted.

"Evie, why don't you sleep over at my place tonight? You don't have to go back." Emily suggested after they finished eating.

"I can't!" Evie answered quickly.

"Why not? Are your parents afraid I'll eat you?" Emily laughed.

"No. I just can't stay out overnight now." Evie said awkwardly.

"It's not outside. It's the dormitory. You've lived there before!"

"I used to live there, but I can't now."

"Maybe Evie's parents are worried she'll say she's staying in the dorm but actually live somewhere else." Stella smiled.

"Your family is so strict!" Emily sighed.

Evie could only smile awkwardly.

How could she explain that she was married now and it wasn't convenient to stay out overnight?

After they were full, Evie prepared to go back.

"Evie, how are you getting back?" Emily asked.

"My family is picking me up," Evie said.

"Okay. We'll wait until you get in the car and copy down the license plate before we go back." Emily responded.

"Don't worry. My family is picking me up." Evie said, "You two go back first. Don't wait for me."

"It's okay. It's not too late!"

Evie felt embarrassed. She wondered how she would explain when Alexander showed up.

Just then, a car stopped beside them.

Evie froze.

Then she saw the driver get out, walk to the back door, and open it for her.

"I'm going back now. Bye!" Evie waved to Emily and Stella.

"Bye!" Emily and Stella smiled.

After Evie got in, the driver closed the back door, nodded to Emily and Stella, then returned to the driver's seat and got in.

The car drove away.

Stella and Emily walked hand in hand through the school gate.

"Evie is so lucky. Her family is so rich. She doesn't even need to find a job." Stella sighed.

"Yeah, but it's better to have your own job. You saw how desperate she was when her family had trouble a while ago. We haven't experienced ups and downs like that. We can't understand that sadness." Emily responded.
