"No, sis, I'm just talking about it!" Evie said with a smile, shaking her head.
"Then which condition do you think is too high?" Victoria asked, staring straight at her.
"None of them are too high!" Evie replied without missing a beat. She put down her spoon and continued, "Sis, I think that high school friend you're close with fits all of these!"
"Who are you talking about? A high school friend I'm close with?" Victoria was stunned.
"Like Noah!" Evie thought for a moment and said.
At first, she thought it was a nickname. Later, she realized it was his actual name.
Victoria nearly spat out her juice.
"He's my good friend, okay? You want me to get together with my good friend?"
"No, sis, you see him as a friend, but he's been chasing you all along!"
"Chasing me? He never even gave me anything on Valentine's Day. How is that chasing me?" Victoria rolled her eyes.
"No, he gave you a rose when I was a freshman in high school. You took it and threw it in the trash!"
"That rose was picked from the school garden, okay?" Victoria said, exasperated.
"Roses and roses are the same family. They're similar anyway!" Evie said with a grin.
"Similar? If your Alexander gave you a rose, would you accept it?"
"If he gave me a weed, I'd accept it!" Evie replied, laughing.
"Oh, little girl, you're showing off your love life in front of me!"
"No, I'm serious, sis. Maybe throwing his flower in the trash really hurt his pride. After that, he didn't dare give you anything!" Evie explained with a smile.
"When did you become a love expert, analyzing other people's relationships? Don't think that just because you're married, you know more than I do! I've been in love more times than you've been married!" Victoria sneered.
"You can't compare that! I'll only get married once in my life. You've been in love twice as many times as I've been married!" Evie shot back.
"Fine, fine. Your reactions are much faster now than before." Victoria said with a smile. "Don't worry about my business. I'm not afraid your sister won't get married!"
Evie nodded. That was true.
She only found out Alexander was a good man after she married him.
After eating, Evie followed her sister Victoria and slowly walked to the shopping mall.
Evie wanted to prepare New Year's gifts for her family and for those who cared for her family.
But she didn't know what to buy, so she could only take her time choosing.
She knew her family well, but she wasn't very clear about the people who cared for her family.
Before long, she bought gifts for her parents and sister. She bought a watch for her father, a piece of gold-inlaid jade for her mother, and a bag for her sister.
Now it was time to think about the gifts for her husband's family.
"Sis, what do you think I should buy for the old lady?" Evie asked.
"Why do you call your mother-in-law 'the old lady'?" Victoria said with a smile.
"No, I don't say that in front of her!" Evie explained awkwardly.
"Does Mrs. Sterling want anything? Even if you buy the most expensive things for her, she won't look twice. You might as well make something yourself. Like knitting a scarf or something. Forget it, you're too clumsy to knit. You'd better think of something else!" Victoria said to herself.
Evie looked at her sister, torn between tears and laughter.
Was she helping her or hurting her?
"You might as well ask Alexander for advice. Maybe he can give you a good idea!"
"Sis, you're right. Why didn't I think of that!" Evie nodded excitedly and took out her phone from her bag to call Alexander.
"Coming back?" Alexander asked with a smile on the other end of the line.
"Not yet. I want to ask you something!" Evie said with a smile.
"Ask me something? What is it?" Alexander pondered the word.
"I want to buy some New Year's gifts for the family. What would be suitable for your mother?" Evie said sheepishly.
"Whatever you buy, she'll like it!"
"I'm afraid I'll buy the wrong thing!"
"I don't know what Mom likes!"
Evie was speechless for a moment.
This son was too incompetent.
He didn't even know what his own mother liked.
"Have you bought a gift for me?"
"Why would I count you?" Evie deliberately sang the opposite tune.
"Then what am I?"
"My husband!" Evie said, her face turning red. "I won't talk to you anymore. I still have a lot of gifts to buy!"
"Take your time choosing. I'll like whatever you buy!" Alexander replied with a smile.
"I didn't say I wanted to buy anything for you." Evie murmured in reply, but she couldn't help smiling.
After calling Alexander, even though she didn't get any constructive advice, Evie was still in a good mood.
When she came back, she still had a smile on her face.
"Don't smile so happily!" Victoria said with disdain.
"I'm not!" Evie was embarrassed for a long time.
"Did you ask?"
"No, he said he didn't know!" Evie replied awkwardly.
"Then we'll just choose what we like and buy it. It's New Year's Eve tomorrow. It's not practical for you to make something yourself now!" Victoria replied.
Evie nodded.
In the end, they decided to walk around slowly, pick out the items, then pack them up and write greeting cards. That way, they would know which gift was for which person.
It wasn't easy to buy everything. After Evie and Victoria finished dinner, Alexander called.
"I'm coming back. Is it convenient for you to pick me up now?" Evie asked.
Alexander answered. After asking for the address, he told Evie he would be there in half an hour and told her to stay put. He would come to pick her up.
Evie promised and hung up.
"Alexander is waiting for me."
"People with husbands are different. When they want to go back, someone naturally comes to pick them up."
"Sis, you can get married too!" Evie said with a smile.
"That would require having a groom to marry!" Victoria said, a little speechless.
"I just don't want to. There are plenty of people lining up to be my groom!" Victoria waved her hand.
"Sis, is it okay for you to go back by yourself? Or wait a moment, we'll drop you off first, and then we'll go back."
"If you drop me off, what about my car?" Victoria asked.
"I'll drive it another day, or I'll ask Dad's driver to drive it for you."
"My little car, I won't let anyone else drive it. Don't worry about me. I haven't been drinking. I can drive back by myself!"
"I'm worried you'll be too tired to drive." Evie said with a smile.
"Well, I'll be home in half an hour anyway."
Alexander had already arrived.
Victoria said goodbye to them and went back with the gifts Evie wanted to give to her family.
Alexander looked at Evie, who only had one shopping bag in her hand, and asked with a smile, "Couldn't find anything you liked?"
