"Alright, alright, forget I said anything. I'm going to take a shower now, you carry on!" Victoria said with a laugh before hanging up.
Evelyn's face flushed with embarrassment.
She never thought her sister would be so comfortable saying such suggestive things. But now it seemed natural. Victoria just blurted it out. Evelyn wondered what kind of friends her sister was hanging out with these days, making her so bold.
She just hoped Victoria wasn't falling in with the wrong crowd.
Evelyn glanced at the time. It was already past ten.
She had only dozed off for a bit, and now she felt completely rested.
After a long nap, she couldn't fall back asleep, so she headed to the bathroom.
After her shower, she walked out of the bedroom and saw Alexander still busy in his study.
She knocked on the door. "Still awake?"
Alexander looked up and saw Evelyn, a smile spreading across his face.
"Are you hungry? I'll make you some supper!" Evelyn asked, a little shyly.
"Lily already prepared everything. She was just waiting for you to wake up," Alexander replied, closing his documents and clearing his desk.
"Oh, why didn't you call me?" Evelyn said with a hint of regret. "If I had slept all night, you would have gone hungry."
"If you had slept all night, I would have just eaten it all myself!" Alexander came over and wrapped his arm around Evelyn's shoulder.
"So that was your plan all along!" Evelyn teased.
"You caught me," Alexander played along.
Evelyn laughed, feeling a warmth spread through her heart.
What a blessing it would be to grow old together like this for the rest of her life!
The next day, Victoria came to pick up Evelyn and return those items.
Alexander saw Evelyn carrying the shopping bags out of her room and asked, "What are you doing with those?"
"Returning them!" Evelyn said. "We can't use them anyway."
Evelyn's face turned red as soon as she said it.
"It doesn't matter if you don't return them. We could use them occasionally!"
"I don't want to!" Evelyn retorted immediately, her face growing even hotter.
Alexander smiled, his eyes fixed on Evelyn, who was too embarrassed to meet his gaze.
"Return the rest. I'm looking forward to that sheer nightgown of yours," Alexander continued.
"Huh?" Evelyn looked up at Alexander in dismay.
She almost blurted out the word, pervert!
The words were on the tip of her tongue, but she quickly stopped herself. Calling her husband that didn't seem very kind.
"Well, if you like it, I'll keep it!" Evelyn said in a low voice.
She found the one in the shopping bag and kept it. The rest she still carried out to return.
"I'm leaving. My sister is waiting for me!"
"Call me when you're ready to come back. I'll pick you up," Alexander instructed.
"Okay!" Evelyn agreed, then walked over with a red face and gave Alexander a quick kiss.
A peck, light as a dragonfly skimming the water.
But Alexander wouldn't let her get away with such a perfunctory gesture.
When Evelyn hurried downstairs and reached the door, Victoria was already impatient.
"What took you so long? Were you laying an egg?"
"No, it takes time to walk to the door, and I'm carrying all this stuff. Why don't you come in and sit for a while?" Evelyn blushed.
She was too embarrassed to say that Alexander had delayed her a bit.
"I'd better come another day. I can't just show up at your place without visiting Mrs. Sterling first," Victoria replied.
Truth be told, she hated these social niceties.
Besides, for a wealthy family like the Sterlings, the most important thing was to keep her distance!
Victoria drove, taking Evelyn to return those items.
It was Evelyn's first time in a store like this. There were so many varieties that she was stunned, her face red and her heart pounding.
Victoria, on the other hand, took her around with great interest, explaining the functions of each item.
Evelyn just wanted to grab the money and run.
After getting back in the car, Evelyn asked Victoria, "Sister, how do you know so much about those things?"
"Isn't it obvious? If I didn't know, how could I sell them?" Victoria rolled her eyes.
"Huh?" Evelyn looked at Victoria in dismay.
"Don't make such a big deal. I'm selling things, not myself. You think your big sister is out here selling her body?" Victoria replied calmly.
Evelyn breathed a sigh of relief, but then asked in dismay, "Sister, is that shop yours?"
"It belongs to a classmate of mine. I help him watch the shop occasionally, and he treats me to dinner!"
"Oh!" Evelyn replied.
"What you took was at cost price. The boss didn't make any money off you. That was all because of my connections!"
"Thank you, sister!"
"You're welcome. You've returned everything!"
"Yes!" Evelyn laughed. She had forgotten. She had just returned everything.
There were also several other items that had been returned at the lingerie counter.
"You're missing one. Did you forget to take it?" Victoria asked after checking.
"That one... that one... that one..." Evelyn hesitated for a long time, unable to say that Alexander had asked her to keep it.
"Oh, I get it, I get it!" Victoria looked at her sister's red face and immediately understood.
After returning the rest, they went to eat first, and then strolled around to see if there was anything they needed to buy.
"Sister, why are you eating so little?" Evelyn asked, seeing that Victoria had only taken a few bites before putting down her chopsticks.
"I'm trying to lose weight!"
"What do you mean, lose weight? You're practically flying already!" Evelyn said bluntly.
"Wait until you're flying!"
"Sister, losing weight like this isn't healthy!" Evelyn criticized.
"Then tell me, what's a healthy way?" Victoria asked with a smile.
"It's a combination of diet and exercise. Starving yourself isn't healthy."
"Sure enough, it's different now that you're married. You're still spouting the same old truths!"
"No, I'm serious. Your way of losing weight isn't scientific or healthy. If you damage your body, it's not worth it!"
"Alas, when I catch a golden goose of a husband, I'll stop losing weight," Victoria said with a smile.
"Sister, so many people are chasing you. Just pick the one you like best," Evelyn said with a smile.
"I'd like to, but I can't find one I like. How can I choose?"
"Don't be so picky! Like me..."
"Like you? What, are you trying to tell me your family's conditions are very ordinary?" Victoria said angrily.
"No, I mean, don't set the bar too high at the beginning. Maybe there will be a surprise in the future!" Evelyn replied awkwardly.
At first, she had heard Ethan's words and thought the man she was going to marry was ugly, old, and short. Finally, because she heard that Alexander was gay, she reluctantly agreed to the marriage.
Now that she was married to Alexander, she felt like there was a surprise every day!
"Your family's conditions are so high, you don't have a say," Victoria said directly, waving her hand.
"..." Evelyn could only smile, unable to refute.
"Actually, my requirements aren't high. As long as he's male, as long as he likes females, he's not a kept man, he's not a moocher, and he's not too old, that's fine! Do you think I'm too picky?" Victoria asked Evelyn indignantly.
"Sister, these conditions aren't high. But even if you put them all together, the requirements you meet are very high!" Evelyn replied seriously.
"Are you encouraging me or insulting me?" Victoria stared directly at Evelyn.
