A city hospital.
Isabella Miller rushed over the moment she got the news.
Her schedule had been set. She was supposed to film a commercial this morning, but then she received the call from Brookhaven General Hospital—Noah Taylor had been admitted.
Upon hearing the news, Isabella dropped everything and went to see him.
Seeing him wrapped in thick bandages, lying motionless on the bed, Isabella’s heart ached with worry. Even though they had broken up, she still loved this man deeply. Seeing him like this, tears streamed down her face.
“Who are you, miss?” the attending doctor asked when he saw someone visiting Noah.
“I... I’m his girlfriend, doctor. How badly is he hurt? Why is he suddenly so seriously injured?” Isabella wiped her tears and looked at Noah lying on the bed.
“His most serious injuries right now are broken ribs, internal bleeding in the abdomen, and various cuts and bruises. He was brought in this morning. Apparently, he was drinking heavily and got into a fight with some thugs on the roadside. One thing led to another, and a brawl broke out.”
“Is he still in danger? When will he get better?” Isabella didn’t relax for a moment, terrified that Noah was still in critical condition.
“He’s out of danger for now. But he’ll need to stay in the hospital for observation. Miss, you’ll need to handle the admission procedures later. If there’s nothing else, I’ll step out. He doesn’t seem to be in a very good state emotionally. When he wakes up, try to talk some sense into him.”
Isabella nodded and closed the door. She walked over to Noah’s bedside, gently took his hand, and pressed it against her cheek.
Noah, how did you end up like this?
Why are we like this?
Wasn’t it supposed to be a perfect match? Weren’t we supposed to be together forever?
Isabella thought long and hard.
No, she couldn’t just give up on the man she loved. No matter what it took, she had to win Noah’s heart back.
At that moment, Isabella’s cold eyes glistened with crystal-clear tears, her expression a mix of complexity and cunning.
Her slender fingers tightly gripped Noah’s palm. When she looked at him again, the cunning in her eyes was gone, replaced by a hint of tenderness.
Windsor Manor.
In the spacious room, the off-white decor added a touch of warmth and tranquility to the atmosphere.
Without realizing it, Emma Johnson had been lying in bed for an entire day. Probably due to the effects of the medication, she had been in a deep sleep all day, drifting through several dreams. But when she woke up, she couldn’t remember a single one.
Emma rubbed her head. The curtains in the room were drawn, blocking out all the light from outside. The room was pitch black. Emma opened her mouth and called out, “Charlotte?”
Hearing her voice, someone outside immediately rushed in. “Madam, are you awake?”
“Yes. What time is it? How long have I been asleep?” Emma stretched her arms, her back aching from lying down for so long.
Charlotte went to the window, pulled open the curtains, and turned around with a smile. “Madam, it’s almost five o’clock now. You’ve been asleep since eight this morning... Let me check if you still have a fever. The young master told me that if you’re still unwell, I should call the doctor to come and give you an injection.”
With that, Charlotte walked over to her, reached out, and felt Emma’s forehead. Then she touched her own. “It seems you don’t have a fever, madam. How do you feel? Are you uncomfortable anywhere?”
“A little dizzy, and my back aches...” Emma looked at this girl and felt a fondness in her heart. She was as innocent and lovely as Emma herself had been at seventeen or eighteen.
“You must have been sleeping too long, madam. Wait here. I’ll go call the young master.” With that, Charlotte walked briskly toward the study.
Emma rubbed her face. After sleeping all day, her face felt puffy.
After getting dressed, Emma walked barefoot to the balcony. She looked out at the sea of flowers in front of her and the mountains in the distance. It was a beautiful day.
It would be a waste not to go for a walk on such a fine day.
Knowing she was awake, Liam Williams came in specifically to see Emma. He pushed open the door and saw her standing on the balcony. For a moment, he was stunned.
In the evening, the dim sunlight fell on her, casting a soft glow. Liam felt as if the light was blinding.
Her long hair cascaded like a waterfall, and her petite figure was dressed in an elegant long-sleeved gown. The scene was breathtakingly beautiful.
Liam closed the door and walked up behind her. He couldn’t help but wrap his arms around her slender waist from behind, resting his chin on her head. He could easily catch the faint fragrance of her hair.
Emma hadn’t heard him come in. She was startled by the sudden embrace. When she felt the familiar scent of Liam’s masculine hormones behind her, she froze for a moment before calming down.
But her heart was pounding like a deer in headlights. She couldn’t tell if it was nervousness, excitement, or fear.
After all, every time she had close contact with Liam, Emma could feel the strong, cold aura emanating from him, which made her a little timid. But over time, she had gotten used to it. Liam was always like this—domineering yet gentle, gentle yet fierce.
“Liam... What are you doing here?” Emma stood still, not daring to move, her voice stammering.
“Hmm... Are you feeling better? After sleeping all day, are you hungry?” Liam’s magnetic voice sounded in her ear.
This ambiguous feeling really made them seem like a newlywed couple.
Emma’s face turned red, like a small apple. Being held by him made her whole body tingle. She wanted to find a hole to crawl into.
Liam’s gentleness could really make her lose herself. Emma slowly turned around and looked up at his chiseled handsome face, his sexy thin lips, his broad chest...
Emma swallowed her saliva. She didn’t speak, just nodded slightly. After staring at Liam for a while, she felt a little embarrassed and shyly lowered her head.
Seeing that she didn’t speak, Liam swallowed all the words he wanted to say. He simply said, “You look much better. Let’s eat... Or rather, you say you’re hungry.”
Emma nodded eagerly. Her sweet face had a pair of beautiful dimples, and her watery eyes were full of innocence, without a trace of impurity. She was so candid that Liam almost lost his composure.
