Chapter 82

Emma Johnson stared at the pills in Liam Williams' hand, her eyes wide with disbelief.

Oh my God.

Was he serious? That many pills? All at once?

"Um... isn't this a bit much?" she asked weakly, her voice barely above a whisper.

"It's only eighteen or nineteen. You can swallow them all in one go. Come on, open up."

Liam moved the medicine toward her mouth, but Emma quickly pulled back, holding up three fingers. "No, no... can I take them in three rounds? I'm scared I'll choke..."

Was that even possible?

Liam glanced at the pills in his palm. Sure, there were a lot of them, but each one was small. Swallowing them all at once should be easy. Was Emma really that afraid of taking medicine?

"Fine. Three rounds. Take the water and swallow."

He handed her the cup, his expression cool but still composed. Emma felt a flutter in her chest as she looked at him.

She nodded and opened her mouth, waiting for him to feed her.

A minute later, she was completely defeated.

What kind of medicine was this? Each pill tasted worse than the last. Even when she managed to get one down, the bitterness stuck to her throat, refusing to budge. After several gulps of water and a face twisted in misery, she finally finished them all.

Her heart was in complete turmoil. Couldn't those so-called doctors and experts consider the feelings of their patients for once?

She was already suffering from being sick, and now the medicine had to be this bitter?

Was she supposed to live or die?

"Open your mouth..."

Emma was just about to turn over and sleep when Liam's voice came from above her again.

"What now? Isn't it over?" she whined, on the verge of tears.

"Less talking. Open your mouth if you want it."

Ha. Rich people were really different. They took medicine dozens of times more than normal people.

Back home, when she had a cold or fever, Emma would just take one pill. One!

"Ah..." She closed her eyes and opened her mouth like a prisoner awaiting the death penalty, her face completely blank.

Then, in an instant, she felt his finger brush against her lips.

A sweet taste spread through her mouth.

Liam had actually given her a piece of candy. Sweet.

Emma's eyes flew open, and she looked at him with joy. "It's not medicine?"

Liam had never fed a girl candy before. It felt strange. Seeing her like this, he was momentarily stunned, a faint blush creeping onto his face. "Sleep. I'll be in the study. If you need anything, call Charlotte. I'll have her wait outside your door."

"Oh... so you're not working today?" Emma asked, the candy still in her mouth. The corners of her eyes curved upward, and two shallow dimples appeared, making her look even more mischievous.

As soon as the words left her mouth, she regretted them. He was a big boss. Who dared to question whether he went to work or not?

She must have had a fever that fried her brain to say something like that.

"Hmph." Liam snorted coldly, lifting his deep eyes to see the smile on her face. His heart skipped a beat, pounding several times.

This woman... she always made him feel so many unprecedented emotions. Excitement, surprise, tenderness, concern... and anger.

In the past, Liam didn't seem to have developed those senses.

He always wore a gloomy expression in his office all day, neither sad nor happy. At home, too. There were few things that could make him forget to breathe with joy, and no one could stir up his anger and make it explode instantly.

But since he met Emma Johnson, his ordinary life had begun to be filled with many ups and downs. It even made him a different person.

That Liam Williams was very different from the calm and introverted president of Pinnacle Corporation.

After leaving the bedroom, Liam put his hands in his trouser pockets and walked toward the study.

When he opened the door, he saw Benjamin Williams inside. A flicker of surprise crossed his eyes.

This kid, why was he suddenly working so hard?

"What's the matter? You've been very attentive these days. How's your progress on getting to know the details of Las Vegas Entertainment City?" Liam closed the door and looked at Benjamin, who was beside his desk.

"Almost done. With my intelligence, these are small cases." Benjamin stood up, walked to the sofa, and sat opposite him, a smile on his face.

"That's good. When you're ready, you can go there. As the general manager of Las Vegas Entertainment City, you need to hold your ground. If anything goes wrong, I'll handle it." Although Liam said this, he still believed in his brother's ability. Otherwise, how could he easily give him such a big business?

Besides, taking care of a large group like Pinnacle Corporation was already hard work. His younger brother would have to help him sooner or later.

There was a saying, wasn't there? If brothers are of one mind, their interests will break gold.

"Brother, if I really mess things up, what will you do?" Benjamin asked jokingly.

"When did you become so unsure of yourself? I believe in you. You can do it." Liam reached out and patted him on the shoulder, his eyes full of certainty.

Benjamin paused for a moment, a hint of cunning flashing in his eyes. Then he raised his sexy peach blossom eyes and said with a smile, "I know, big brother. I'll do well. Have you made up with your sister-in-law? Look at your face, it's like spring has arrived."

"She hasn't stopped causing trouble since she came into our house. She makes a fuss over big and small things, and I can't do anything about her." Liam said it casually, but Benjamin heard something different.

He didn't know about other people, but he knew his big brother very well. At least up to now, no woman around Liam had ever made him work this hard.

Now one had suddenly appeared, and Liam was thinking hard for her. What did that mean? Benjamin saw it at a glance.

"Women... they're all the same. But, brother, what do you like about my sister-in-law?" Benjamin asked directly.

Although after so many days of contact and understanding, Benjamin found that Emma Johnson really had her extraordinary qualities—frank, beautiful, clear-headed.

But these weren't the reasons Liam would be moved. There were all kinds of women who wanted to get close to him, and he could find someone better. Why did he choose a not-so-outstanding Emma Johnson?

Liam didn't expect Benjamin to ask this question. After a few seconds, he said slowly, "Emma Johnson? When I think about it carefully, there really isn't a reason for people to like her. But I find that when I'm with her, my heart feels very stable. Is this why?" In fact, Liam just wanted to make up a reason for his younger brother not to doubt his relationship with Emma. But as soon as he said it, he realized that this was actually the truest thought in his heart.

"Well... brother, can't you give me a better reason? Like is like, don't like is don't like. Well, it's hard to understand." Benjamin was defeated by this answer. For the first time, he heard someone use such a non-nutritious reason to like a girl.
