Chapter 433

Seeing that Amelia was about to cry, Emma felt Liam's words were a bit harsh.

After all, it wasn't her fault. Who told Liam to suddenly kiss her in broad daylight?

"Whatever you want for dinner, just have the kitchen prepare it."

After hearing Amelia's words, Liam naturally turned to ask Emma. Emma thought to herself, she had just survived a fire—how could she possibly have an appetite?

"Anything is fine. Whatever Amelia wants."

Emma turned and smiled at Amelia. Her ears were still slightly red, but she wasn't as embarrassed as before.

"I understand. Brother, sister-in-law, I'll be going now."

Amelia barely managed to force a sweet smile. The moment she closed the door, her face turned dark and gloomy. The maid standing nearby felt a chill run down her spine, wondering what was wrong with the young lady this time.

The woman who had blocked Emma from getting on the elevator was quickly found by Liam. But when Captain Reed and his team arrived at her residence, they discovered she had died suddenly. Captain Reed found her death suspicious and immediately secured the scene before calling Liam.

After Liam arrived and examined the dead woman, he said darkly to Captain Reed, "This looks like the work of the same group behind the robbers in Silverdale."

"What? The trail is dead again?"

Until now, the masterminds behind the three robbers in Silverdale remained unidentified, proving how deeply hidden the enemy was.

"We'll find them."

Liam's voice was deep and cold, his eyes sharp and piercing.

Captain Reed knew Liam was furious. He patted him on the shoulder, and they left the scene together to discuss how to track down the person behind it all.

Four or five days passed. Emma's voice had improved significantly, barely any hoarseness remained. Dr. Moore's medicine was clearly effective. Meanwhile, Amelia was still lying in bed resting. Although Dr. Moore couldn't find anything physically wrong during his examinations, he guessed she was still shaken from the fire and hadn't fully recovered.

Benjamin came to visit Amelia every day, no longer returning to Windsor Manor as he used to. Emma thought that, from a certain perspective, this might actually be a good thing.

One day, Emma checked the time. Though it was still early evening, she remembered how busy Liam had been lately and decided to make him a bowl of wonton noodles. When she went downstairs, she saw Amelia sitting on the sofa, wearing a sweater with a blanket over her legs. She looked weak and frail. Emma couldn't help but feel speechless.

No matter how much Amelia rested in her room during the day, the moment Liam's work hours ended, she would always be sitting on the sofa waiting for him. When Liam returned, she would grab his arm like a happy sparrow, acting coquettishly and complaining about how boring her day had been. Liam would always ask a few questions.

At those times, her smile would grow even sweeter.

"Sister-in-law, why did you come down?"

Amelia looked at Emma in surprise, because Emma rarely came downstairs except to play chess with the old man occasionally.

Emma smiled at her and said she planned to make a bowl of wonton noodles for Liam. Amelia's expression shifted slightly, then she forced a smile, saying Liam was truly blessed.

Emma didn't say anything more. In front of Amelia, Emma always kept her words few. If it hadn't been for Amelia just escaping from the fire, she wouldn't have bothered to ask more questions.

She was afraid the rift between her and Amelia would never truly heal.

Emma walked into the kitchen, unaware that a chilling gaze was fixed on her back, wishing she could burn two holes through her.

When Liam returned to Sunrise Manor, he didn't expect Emma to have made wonton noodles for him. After all, he hadn't received such treatment in a while, so he was very happy. He usually looked indifferent, but tonight everyone could tell he was in a good mood.

Seeing this, Amelia gripped her chopsticks tightly. If the chopsticks hadn't been made of sturdy material, she would have snapped them in public.

After dinner, Liam and Emma returned to their room. He told her about the woman who had died.

"Dead? How could that happen?"

Emma asked in surprise. Liam smiled coldly.

"To erase the evidence, of course. But her death is identical to the three men who kidnapped you in Silverdale. I'm afraid it's the same group pulling the strings."

Liam analyzed. Emma felt a chill run through her heart.

"I wonder who would go to such lengths against me?"

Seeing Emma sigh, Liam felt a pang of sympathy. But he couldn't help suspecting whether Elijah was involved. If he could identify a few suspects, Liam would find the gang in no time. But now, with the trail dead, there was nothing he could do—that was the most frustrating part.

"By the way, I've almost recovered. Let me go to work with you tomorrow. I also want to see the company's new address."

Emma said to Liam.

"You'd better rest a few more days. There isn't much work at the end of the year."

Liam didn't agree. After the fire, he regretted letting Emma go to work. If she hadn't gone to the company, this accident wouldn't have happened. He had even considered keeping her at home and not letting her go to the company anymore.

But Emma wasn't the type to stay idle, so Liam's idea was still uncertain. After all, once he actually implemented it, he was afraid this little woman would blame herself.

Even if his intentions were for her own good.

Although Emma knew Liam was concerned about her health, she still found staying at home boring. Especially having to face Amelia every day, which always made her uncomfortable.

"Look, I've gained weight these days. I don't want to be idle anymore."

Of course, she couldn't tell Liam that she didn't like staying at Sunrise Manor with Amelia. So she found a reasonable excuse. She really had put on a few pounds lately. She was forced to drink all kinds of nourishing soups from the kitchen every day, which made her want to vomit.

Even though her skin was becoming smoother and more radiant by the day.
