Emma didn't doubt him for a second.
Grace, Emma's aunt, had been worried about her daughter being turned away at the door. After making sure Emma was alright, she left. Isabella was sitting in the car, her eyes practically burning with anger. As Grace drove, she couldn't help but scold her daughter.
"It's only natural for your cousin to be angry. Since you were right there beside her, you should have remembered to pull her along. But you left her stranded outside the elevator. Your cousin was being very lenient with you."
"How was I supposed to know it would turn out like that? I was too busy trying to save my own skin. I was terrified. I couldn't think straight. And my cousin is the same. She could have been the first one out, but she chose to wait for the employees. I'm her cousin, after all. It's not like I have much say. At least I stayed with her until the end."
Isabella didn't think she was wrong. The real reason she came today was to test if Liam was still angry. Judging by his reaction, he clearly hadn't calmed down. This made her feel both ashamed and furious, but she also couldn't stop worrying about whether her acting career would suffer another setback.
"Your cousin is the president's wife of Pinnacle Corporation. Of course, she has to prioritize the employees first. There's nothing wrong with that. As her cousin, if you don't stand by her, do you expect to abandon her first? Think about how she just solved a huge problem for you. How can you say such things? You're really making me angry."
Grace scolded Isabella angrily.
"Why don't you just let me spend my life with her? If my cousin hadn't risked her life to get in, she wouldn't have been so lucky to get out. But if I had been trapped in there with her, do you think she would have worried about me? You wouldn't even be seeing me here right now."
Isabella retorted stubbornly, which finally made Grace stop her scolding. Although people's hearts are made of flesh, they are also selfish. Especially in the face of life and death, no one would want their own flesh and blood to suffer. In the end, Grace just glared at her daughter and said nothing more.
As they drove away from Sunrise Manor, Isabella couldn't help thinking that she should call Emma later. She would hint that her cousin's husband was still angry with her, so Emma would speak up for her. That way, her cousin shouldn't hide her at work anymore.
Thinking about how her agent had told her this morning that she had lost two major international advertising contracts for no reason made her feel like an ant on a hot pan. Originally, her mother wanted to come back the next day, but she couldn't wait to bring her along. Although she was treated coldly, at least Emma didn't seem to have any problem with her.
So, there were some gains.
Emilia was much smarter than the impatient Isabella. She called Emma first before coming over. Because Emma had said hello, Liam couldn't very well shut her out. But Emilia shrank back when she saw Liam. His aura was too strong. A single glance from him made her feel cold to the bone.
So when she saw Emma, she cried sincerely. She apologized to Emma for not dragging her into the elevator in time, saying she almost lost her life. Emma didn't say much, just comforted Emilia.
When Emilia left, her eyes were swollen like walnuts from crying. Emma told Liam to have Matthew drive Emilia home. Liam agreed very happily in front of Emma.
However, when Emilia walked out the gate, she didn't see a single car. Looking at the wide, clean road ahead, Emilia felt her legs start to ache before she even took a step.
Because if there was no bus, even the nearest bus stop would take forty minutes to walk to. Taxis were rarely seen here. Those who could live here were all wealthy. They had at least two cars at home. Why would a taxi driver waste time driving here?
A sharp wind blew. The snow had stopped, making it very cold. Emilia had a miserable look on her face and could only force herself to walk. Of course, she didn't dare call Emma to complain. After all, Liam's cold glare before she left was enough of a warning.
To continue working at Pinnacle Corporation, she had to accept it.
Besides, this lesson was already very light. After all, Liam didn't think she had done it on purpose. If he had, how could he have let her off so easily?
"Did Matthew drive her back?"
Seeing Liam return to the bedroom, Emma asked. Hearing her hoarse voice, though it wasn't serious, Liam still felt a pang of pain.
"Yes, she's been taken home."
Liam said to Emma without changing his expression. There was nothing unnatural about it at all.
"Then I'm relieved. By the way, how are things going with the new building? Has the new address been chosen? We won't have to go further when we go to the new company, will we?"
With a slow smile, Liam sat beside Emma and pulled her into his arms. "Don't worry, there's plenty of time to lie in. Besides, even if you're late to the company, no one will say anything."
"It's like I'm so sleepy."
Emma couldn't help but roll her eyes at Liam. Her eyes were clear but also bewitching. At the corners, they seemed to have a small hook, making his heart itch.
Liam's eyes darkened. The next moment, he lowered his head and kissed her soft lips. He sucked gently, attacking and plundering, tasting her sweet beauty.
"Brother, sister-in-law."
The door was suddenly pushed open. Emma's eyes widened. She immediately pushed Liam away. Then she turned her face to face the figure that suddenly appeared at the door. She wished there was a crack in the floor in front of her so she could crawl into it.
"I didn't knock before bursting in. Amelia, you're not a child anymore."
Compared to Emma's embarrassment, Liam looked calm. But deep down, he was angry. It was really uncomfortable to be disturbed at a critical moment. If it weren't for Amelia, he would have been furious.
Amelia hadn't expected to walk in on two people making out in the room in broad daylight. She couldn't help but feel a pang of hatred in her heart, but she still acted flustered. Innocent like a pure rabbit.
"I'm sorry. I just wanted to come in and ask what you'd like for dinner."
