Chapter 414

"Brother, I knew it. I knew you'd be leaving right about now."

Amelia wasn't surprised to see Liam. After all, the café was just around the corner. It made sense they'd head back together. Liam didn't say a word. He simply drove Emma and Amelia back to Sunrise Manor.

The second time Emma saw Amelia climb into the front seat, something shifted in her eyes. They seemed clearer somehow. Still, she said nothing. She just sat in silence the whole ride, listening to Amelia and Liam chat.

That evening, Emma didn't eat much. It wasn't unusual. But instead of forcing herself to stay in the living room and watch TV with Amelia like she usually did, she went straight upstairs. She took a bath and planned on getting an early night.

"Brother, is my sister-in-law still mad at me? Does she still not forgive me?"

Amelia put on a sad face after Emma left. She looked at the handsome man beside her and asked.

"No. She's just tired."

Liam tried to reassure Amelia, but deep down, he was thinking the same thing.

After sitting with Amelia in the living room for a while, Liam went upstairs to the bedroom. Emma had just stepped out of the bathroom. She was wearing a loose white nightgown, but it couldn't hide her graceful figure. Her hair was still a little damp.

Liam looked at her delicate face, flushed from the hot bath. Her cherry-pink lips looked incredibly tempting. A faint flame flickered in his deep, dark eyes. Before Emma could react, he reached out and pulled her into his arms.

He lowered his head and kissed her soft, sweet lips. He tasted her beauty freely.

His slender hands weren't idle. Even without looking, they seemed to have a mind of their own. He skillfully untied the strap on Emma's pajamas and slipped his cool fingers inside. Her delicate, smooth skin almost made him lose all control.

The cold touch jolted Emma awake. She opened her eyes and looked at the man kissing her. With great effort, she managed to push him away. Liam hadn't expected it. By the time he realized what was happening, Emma was already two meters away. She reached out and tied the strap on her pajamas again.

"Shouldn't you be going to your study? I'm tired. I want to rest early."

Her meaning was clear. She was refusing him. Liam's eyes grew darker. He wondered if she was still holding a grudge. After all, for the past two months, she had never refused him.

He watched her get ready for bed, staring at her back for a long time. Finally, he let out a helpless sigh. The heat in his body slowly faded because of her cold response. He opened the door and went to the study.

Maybe it'll be better in a couple of days.

That's what Liam thought.

But Emma, lying on her side, never closed her eyes. The scene of Amelia talking to Minister Reed in the elevator kept flashing through her mind. She shook her head hard, then buried her face deeper into the pillow. It took a long time before she finally fell asleep.

The next day, Amelia hitched a ride as usual. She ignored Emma in the car and chatted with Liam. Even though Liam had told her not to cook at noon, Emma didn't feel like cooking for him anymore. At noon, she drove straight to her parents' house to see little Charlie. She ate the rich lunch her mother had made and played with the adorable boy. It lifted her gloomy mood considerably.

But when she got back to the company, Liam's face didn't look good. Emma ignored him and went back to her work. She didn't even ask if he had eaten lunch.

"It's almost the end of the year. The company is holding a New Year's party. You'll be in charge of it."

After more than an hour of silence, Liam suddenly spoke to Emma.

"Understood."

Emma's reaction was still indifferent. She had been through this before during her three years at the magazine. Even though Pinnacle Corporation was a big company, she didn't think it would be that difficult. Seeing her always so cold and distant, Liam wanted to say more, but he didn't know what to say.

After work, Emma saw Amelia at the company gate. She didn't get into Liam's car with her like she did yesterday. Instead, she told Liam she had something to do in the evening and would be going to her parents' house. She wouldn't be back for dinner. After she finished, she didn't wait for Liam's reaction. She didn't even ask if he agreed. She just went to the garage, got into her white BMW, and drove off.

"Brother, what's wrong with my sister-in-law? Why isn't she going back with you?"

Amelia looked confused and asked. But it was like pouring oil on a fire. It only made Liam angrier.

He didn't answer Amelia. He just drove her straight back to Sunrise Manor. Along the way, Amelia tried to talk to him, but he didn't respond. Amelia knew he was angry. A proud expression couldn't help but appear on her beautiful face.

Emma didn't go home. Instead, she went to Brookhaven General Hospital to find Elijah. Elijah was a bit surprised to see Emma show up in front of him, but he didn't ask why. The fact that she came to him, no matter the reason, was enough to make him happy.

She and Elijah found a nearby restaurant to eat. But when the food arrived, Emma barely touched it. She had a distracted look on her face.

"Emma, what's wrong? You can tell me."

Elijah looked at her expression and remembered what Emilia had said to him before. He wondered if there was some conflict between her and Liam. Even though he knew he shouldn't, Elijah felt a faint excitement. After all, only when she had a fight with Liam could he have a chance.

"Elijah, tell me... if a person loses their memory, but still remembers someone and something, and that person isn't an important part of their life, just a minor one... is that possible?"

Emma had come to Elijah tonight because she had a doubt in her heart. She felt that as a doctor, Elijah's perspective wouldn't be as one-sided and emotional as her own. He could be more scientific and objective.

"Something like that is almost impossible. Even with the closest people, the probability is very low."
