"I always miss the good old days. You're the only one who still cares about me like that."
Elijah Clark gazed at Emma Johnson with tender eyes. At that moment, Emma was staring at the blue sky above, completely unaware of the affectionate look the handsome man beside her was giving her.
"Then you should find a partner soon. Someone else will care for you even more."
Emma suggested to Elijah, hoping he would get together with Mia Lewis as soon as possible. The corners of her lips curled slightly, but a bitter taste lingered.
Even though this was the reply he had expected, his heart still ached as if gripped by a sharp cramp.
A gust of cold wind blew, and Emma felt a chill.
"Let's go down. It's too windy up here."
Emma turned around, but her high heels twisted, and she nearly fell. Elijah caught her just in time. In that moment, Emma saw her own reflection in his eyes.
She felt a sudden confusion and didn't want to think too deeply about it. She quickly straightened up and stepped out of Elijah's embrace.
Elijah watched her pull away from his touch and couldn't help but let out a bitter laugh. But he didn't say anything. He simply stood behind her, shielding her from the cold wind as she left the rooftop.
That afternoon, Emma drove back to the office. Emilia Clark brought in some documents for Emma to review. Standing by Emma's desk, she smiled and said,
"Sister Wei, did you have a good time at noon? Going back to your old school must have brought back a lot of memories."
Emma nodded.
"Yeah, I can't believe almost three years have flown by. Time is unforgettable. In two years, I'll be a mom, and I'll be getting older."
Every woman worries about aging. Emma was no exception. A trace of melancholy crept onto her face. When she was younger, her skin was full of collagen. What vibrant youth she had.
Even though she wasn't that old yet, the feeling of loss still lingered.
"How could it take two years to have a child? Don't you want to have a baby now? The president must be very eager."
"He's not in a hurry."
Emma replied casually. The moment she realized how wrong that sounded, she quickly looked up to explain to Emilia. But she didn't know how to explain it.
After all, a normal couple would naturally want to have children after getting married. Especially in wealthy families, having an heir was even more important.
Emilia didn't miss the unnatural look in Emma's eyes. A flicker of confusion crossed her mind. But she didn't know what it meant. Finally, she smiled and said,
"Maybe the president just wants more time alone with you. Besides, once you have a child, all your energy will naturally go to the baby. You two would have less time together. It seems the president values romance more than an heir."
"Ha ha."
Emma let out a dry laugh. She didn't say anything else, tacitly agreeing with Emilia. After all, she couldn't think of a better excuse.
After Emma finished marking the documents, Emilia took them and left. As the door closed, Emilia looked back at Emma thoughtfully, but finally shook her head and walked away, still unable to figure out what was off.
The moment the door clicked shut, Emma couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. She thought about how dangerous that had been. If Emilia found out that she and Liam Williams were actually in a contract marriage, even if Emilia helped keep the secret, it would inevitably leak out one day.
When that happened, the stock price of Pinnacle Corporation would take a hit, and she would be the one to blame. She would be condemned for it.
Switzerland.
Benjamin Williams stared at Liam Williams with gloomy eyes. He hadn't expected Liam to come pick up Amelia himself. In his heart, Amelia was actually important. This made Benjamin feel a deeper sense of crisis.
He couldn't hide the displeasure in his eyes.
"Brother, I didn't expect you to come meet me in person. Actually, last time they said you wouldn't. Second brother came over last night. Won't this delay your work at the company?"
Although Amelia said this, she couldn't hide the bright smile on her face. She wouldn't tell Liam that the reason he was here today was because she had hinted to their father, Henry Williams, about it yesterday.
"I didn't know I was coming to pick you up. But after two months in Switzerland, how did you get so thin?"
Liam frowned slightly. He hadn't expected Amelia to have lost so much weight.
"I don't know. Maybe I was too homesick, so I didn't eat much. But this is good too. It's like losing weight. Others would be jealous."
Amelia's face showed an indifferent expression. But Benjamin looked at her with pain in his eyes.
"What weight loss? You're already very thin, and now you have almost no meat on you. It's all my fault. If he hadn't asked you to come here, you wouldn't have had to suffer here. Even if it's the world's best sanatorium, it's not as comfortable as home." Benjamin couldn't help but complain about Liam, who rarely refuted him. After all, Amelia had lost too much weight. He could already imagine how heartbroken and regretful their father would be when he saw her.
"Second brother, don't blame big brother. I agreed to this too." Amelia pursed her lips slightly and showed some anger towards Benjamin. Benjamin had no choice but to shut up. But he still held a grudge against Liam.
Amelia took both brothers' arms affectionately, her smile blooming like a flower.
"That's better. Both my brothers came to pick me up. Second brother, after you take me home, you have to stay for dinner. You're not allowed to leave right away, you hear?"
Amelia's warning eyes looked at Benjamin. Benjamin was helpless, but his eyes were full of doting as he nodded.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the approval in Liam's eyes, and she couldn't help but feel proud. She knew this was what her big brother wanted to see most. Even though he had conflicts with Benjamin, it didn't mean he would give up on their brotherly bond. Naturally, he wouldn't want to ignore him.
The scene of brotherly and sisterly love really pleased her big brother.
It seemed that the bad impression she had left on her big brother was almost completely erased.
Amelia felt relieved.
The next day, after a night of rest, Liam went through the discharge procedures for Amelia. They flew back to City A.
