After confirming the contents of the computer, Emilia Clark took out her own USB drive and copied the files from it.
Then she removed it and placed it securely in her bag.
The staff in the Executive Secretariat all stood up, planning to head to the company cafeteria for dinner. Emilia told them she still had a document to finish. She asked them to go ahead and save her a seat—she would be down shortly.
Her colleagues didn't suspect anything and took the elevator down. When Emilia saw that the top floor was empty, she walked back into the office and returned the USB drive to Liam Williams' drawer.
Just as she had taken it out, no one noticed.
Emma Johnson drove her white BMW to Oakwood High School and watched as many adults drove to the campus gate in small groups. The stalls in front of the gate were lined up in a row, creating a lively atmosphere.
Getting out of the car, Emma saw Elijah Clark waiting at the entrance. She hadn't expected him to arrive earlier than her. Elijah spotted Emma, waved to her with a smile, and walked over to her side.
"Put this on."
Elijah took out a bright red scarf and tied it around Emma's neck himself. Emma noticed he was already wearing one. Not just him, but many people around them were also wearing red scarves.
"I used to think it was a hassle to wear this every day, but now I actually miss it. Those days are gone forever."
Emma said to Elijah with a smile. Elijah looked gently at Emma's bright smile. In his heart, he felt that time had never left a mark on her. She was still like a teenager—the only sunshine that could dispel the darkness in his heart.
"You haven't had lunch yet. Should we go to a nearby restaurant and grab something to eat first, then come back?"
Elijah suggested to Emma. Emma immediately shook her head at him. Elijah was puzzled, wondering if she was trying to lose weight recently, but Emma said to him.
"What restaurant are you talking about? Look, there's a whole row of snacks right here. I haven't had street food in a long time, especially the stuff near school. It's cheap and delicious. I miss it so much. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water."
Emma's eyes were already scanning the stalls, deciding which one to eat from. Elijah looked at her beautiful profile and couldn't help but smile gently.
From kebabs to crispy chicken, scallion pancakes to spicy hot pot. Emma only wished her stomach were bigger so she could eat everything. Fortunately, Elijah was by her side, so she didn't have to worry about leftovers. Because Elijah would always help her finish them, leaving room in her stomach for more delicious snacks.
Thinking back to the past, ever since elementary school, she always liked to take Elijah to eat street food after school. Because she liked to eat many different things, she would hand the leftovers over to Elijah. And Elijah never complained, which often made Emma feel that if only Elijah were her own brother, how wonderful that would be.
Such a clever and gentle personality was truly adorable.
After finishing the snacks, Emma felt very full. Then she walked leisurely with Elijah toward the campus. It had been more than ten years since she had come back, and she noticed that many of the school's landscapes had changed. A few new teaching buildings had been built, and some old buildings had been renovated.
"It's a pity it's winter now. If it were summer, all the flowers in these flower beds would be in bloom, and the scenery would be even more beautiful."
Emma said with a hint of regret.
Elijah also said it was a pity.
"Elijah? You're Elijah Clark, aren't you?"
A woman's voice came from in front of them. Emma looked at her in confusion. The more she looked, the more familiar she seemed. But for a moment, she couldn't remember who it was.
"Who are you?"
Elijah looked at the young woman in front of him with confusion. She seemed to be about his age. But he had no memory of her.
"I'm your alumni from freshman year, but we were in different classes. I went abroad in the second year of junior high and just came back this year."
The woman's face showed no embarrassment at not being recognized. On the contrary, she was still excited. She saw Emma beside Elijah and recognized her at a glance.
"Aren't you the student who helped me deliver my love letter? Do you remember me?"
Emma suddenly realized. This girl had once asked her to deliver a love letter to Elijah. Because Emma went to school with Elijah every day. Because of the girl's enthusiasm, she had helped her hand it over for two weeks.
"I remember. It's you."
Emma greeted her with a smile.
But Elijah still looked completely confused, not knowing what was going on. When Emma saw him like this, she poked him with her elbow and whispered in his ear.
"That's the girl who wrote you love letters for two weeks. Back then, you didn't even look at her once. She ran away crying when you rejected her. How could you forget?"
After listening to Emma's words, Elijah understood what was happening. But he still didn't have a deep impression of the woman. However, he pretended to remember and greeted her with a smile.
"I see. So that's why you rejected me back then. It turns out the person you always liked in your heart was the younger student sister beside you. Ah, I should have known when I saw you two going in and out of the campus together. One is the school beauty, the other is the school heartthrob—you're a perfect match. Sure enough, you're together now."
The woman looked at the two of them and said with emotion. Emma was a bit tongue-tied. She hadn't expected to be misunderstood like this. Just as she was about to explain, a man not far away called out to the woman.
He looked like her boyfriend or husband. The woman said goodbye to them and walked in the direction of her boyfriend.
"I didn't even get to explain to her. She walked away so fast."
Emma sighed, thinking that this kind of misunderstanding really didn't feel good.
"Forget it. She's gone."
Elijah liked this kind of misunderstanding very much. After all, he had been trying to make it come true.
Emma looked at Elijah helplessly and could only give up.
They walked around the school, and Elijah suggested sitting on the roof of the teaching building. Emma agreed, and they went up the stairs.
"Emma, do you remember when you always came to the roof and asked me to have lunch together? If you hadn't come to find me back then, I wouldn't have had lunch at all."
Elijah came to the roof and said to Emma with nostalgia.
"Of course. When you were young, you were always different from others. My mother always said that although you were clever and quiet, you weren't a reassuring child. Because you always neglected your health. I never expected you to become a doctor in the end."
Emma also responded with a smile.
