"Brother, I didn't mean to say that. I was just curious."
Emma Johnson and Emilia Clark walked ahead. Amelia White followed behind Liam Williams. She reached out, gently tugging at his clothes like a child, her expression pitiful.
Liam paused for a moment, glancing at her coldly. The silence in the air made it hard for Amelia to breathe. After eight years, she realized she had no idea what her brother was thinking.
"Amelia, you're my sister."
Amelia, who had been tense, relaxed slightly. Her eyes brightened.
"So I need you to understand this: the fact that Emma is your sister-in-law will never change."
The next moment, Liam's handsome face grew more serious. The faint warning in his tone seemed to land heavily on Amelia's heart.
"Do you love Emma that much?"
At that moment, Amelia couldn't hide it anymore. She blurted out what was on her mind, the reluctance in her eyes unmistakable.
"You've loved me since I was little. Why did you change after you got a sister-in-law? I don't like her. I don't like her living in our house."
Amelia spoke willfully and arrogantly, but she didn't dare say what she truly felt inside.
"Amelia, we've already registered at the Civil Affairs Bureau. Even without a wedding, she's my legal wife, Mrs. Williams. She has every right to live in our house."
At that moment, Amelia wanted to scream that she was the only one worthy of him. But she knew now wasn't the right time. She needed to wait, to find the cracks between them, so she could take advantage.
Taking a deep breath, Amelia forced herself to calm down. She put on an aggrieved expression.
"So now my brother only cares about his sister-in-law and doesn't want his sister anymore, right?"
"Amelia, you're not a child anymore. Stop being so willful. You know I've never had much patience."
Liam said with a frown.
"Yes, you never had much patience. But you use it all on your sister-in-law."
With those words, Amelia burst into tears, looking pitiful. Emma heard the commotion behind her and turned around to find Amelia crying.
"What's wrong? Liam, don't bully your sister."
This was the first time Emma had seen Amelia cry. Given Amelia's delicate and sweet nature, even Emma, a woman, felt sad seeing her like this.
She also forgot about the earlier unpleasantness in the hospital room.
Liam was speechless. He thought to himself, who was he doing this for? But Amelia's temper was still as willful as ever after eight years. If it hadn't been for her vowing to love Amelia like her own sister in front of Uncle Lin's hospital room, he wouldn't have bothered to say so much to her.
But clearly, she hadn't listened to a word he said.
Amelia cried, watching Liam frown. Her heart sank. It seemed this trick no longer worked.
Yes, only Benjamin Williams was at a loss when she cried. He would pick all the stars from the sky for her just to stop her tears.
But with Liam, it was useless.
"It seems I'm still in the way. I won't bother you here."
Thinking this, Amelia put on a look of impatience and desperation. She glared at Emma, then quickly ran out of the hospital, tears streaming down her face.
Only this way could she save a little face.
Emma watched Amelia run away. She walked over to Liam and pointed in the direction Amelia had gone. There was no sign of her.
"She—"
"Amelia has been spoiled by us. She's too willful. Let her go. I hope she figures things out."
Liam's brows were almost knitted into a frown. He tried to comfort Emma. But Emma didn't know what they had just said.
"That's not what I mean, Liam. Don't you notice your sister is wearing high heels? If there were a competition for walking in high heels, she'd be a dark horse."
Emma sighed repeatedly, completely unaware of the man beside her frozen face.
"But seriously, no matter how willful and unreasonable your sister is, you can't make her cry. You're a man. You should reason with her."
Emma said, putting on a wise expression.
Liam's brows were completely knitted together. Forget it. Not to mention whether Amelia would listen to him, just Emma in front of him was enough to give him a headache.
Although he had planned to take her home, he still had no idea how to arrange things.
"Dr. Clark, thank you for seeing my wife out of the hospital. When Emma is better, I will personally invite you to my home to thank you for taking care of her these days."
"As long as Emma asks me to come, I won't refuse."
Two men, different in style but equally handsome, stood in front of a Land Rover, exchanging polite words. Their smiles were perfect and flawless.
But in the air, Emma seemed to hear the crackling sound of sparks.
"Emilia, take good care of yourself in the hospital. I'll see you again in a few days. Elijah, when you're free, remember to visit Emilia, okay?"
Emma told Emilia, then turned to Elijah Clark.
Liam couldn't bear Emma talking to Elijah any longer. He didn't give her time to continue, pushing her into the car and driving toward the Williams family's Sunrise Manor.
"Is Emma really happy? Mr. Liam Williams is the president of Pinnacle Corporation. How many excellent and beautiful women will throw themselves at him every day? I wonder how long his feelings for Emma will last."
Emilia watched the car drive away, showing a hint of worry. She saw that Elijah had clearly been shaken by her words.
"Maybe I'm overthinking. I'm just worried about Emma. She's such a good woman. She deserves a man who will protect and love her for a lifetime. Brother Elijah, don't you agree?"
"Of course, she deserves it."
With a deep sigh, Emilia didn't continue. She had seen the hesitation in Elijah's eyes. That was enough.
The seeds had been sown. As long as they were watered with patience, they would grow into towering trees.
"Brother Elijah, I'm feeling a bit unwell. Let's go back."
"Okay, I'll help you back."
