The sunlight streaming through the hospital window was absolutely perfect. Bathing in it must have felt wonderful.
But right now, Emma Johnson's head was throbbing.
"Emma, are you catching a cold? Do you feel dizzy?"
The man in the hospital room completely ignored Liam Williams' murderous glare. Worry was etched across his handsome face.
"I'm fine. It's just a little chill. I'll put on an extra layer just to be safe."
Emma let out a dry laugh under Liam's intense stare. She was already wearing a thicker coat today. Elijah Clark was overreacting.
In Liam's eyes, it was no wonder this would cause misunderstandings.
Sigh.
Even though they were only contract husband and wife, in front of outsiders, they still had to play the part of a loving couple. Especially with Emilia Clark and Amelia White standing nearby. Who knew what they were thinking?
"It's not nothing! You've always had colds that lasted at least a week since we were kids. Then you'd get so dizzy you couldn't get out of bed. Don't I know that? We grew up together! How can you just leave the hospital like this?"
Elijah signaled for a nurse to bring a thermometer, intending to take Emma's temperature.
But before he could get close to Emma, a long, well-defined finger rudely snatched the thermometer from his hand. Elijah looked at the polite smile on Liam's face. His eyes were as cold as a winter storm, but Elijah wasn't intimidated.
"What? Does President Liam also practice medicine? I heard you were just a soldier before managing the Pinnacle Corporation. Can you handle a doctor's job too?"
Displeasure was clear on Elijah's face, but he held back his cold, violent aura. He didn't want to scare Emma.
"I was indeed a soldier, but I'm well-versed in military medicine. Besides, Emma is my wife. It's not your place to worry about her."
Liam's voice was icy. When Amelia heard his words, her eyes darkened. She shot a venomous glare at Emma from a corner where Liam couldn't see.
What does this woman have that makes my brother so jealous?
"I'm really fine. I'm just being cautious, that's all."
Seeing the temperature between the two men drop to freezing again, Emma stepped in to mediate. If she had known a simple coat would cause such a conflict, she would never have worn it.
"Sister Emma, I think you should take your temperature. I'm really worried. Maybe it's because you stayed too long in the concert hall corridor with Daniel Taylor and caught a chill."
At that moment, Emilia Clark, who had been quietly standing in the corner, suddenly spoke up with a careful tone. Her seemingly concerned words exploded like a bomb. Liam's smiling face instantly darkened.
Elijah's burning gaze showed confusion. He knew Daniel Taylor—the young prince of the Oasis Holdings. A man with a wild personality. He had once been Emma's blind date. How did she meet him again?
"Emma, didn't you stay in the hospital this morning?"
As Elijah's voice fell, Emma saw Emilia's panicked expression, as if she felt she had said something wrong. Emma sighed inwardly.
This Emilia, though kind-hearted, is far too careless.
She had thought about checking her horoscope this morning but hadn't turned on her phone. Now she didn't need to. It must be extremely bad.
"Daniel Taylor? Which Daniel Taylor? Sister-in-law, is he your ex-boyfriend? You weren't in the hallway with him, were you?"
Amelia's innocent, naive curiosity made Emma feel very uncomfortable. Did Amelia think this situation wasn't chaotic enough? Did she want to make it worse?
At first, Emma thought Amelia, being two years younger, was just willful and ignorant. But now, she truly believed Amelia was a spoiled princess.
She looked so innocent, but her words and actions were so unpleasant.
If she weren't Liam's sister, Emma wouldn't want to talk to her at all.
"No, no one knows my relationship with him better than your brother."
Emma's mood soured, and she directly pushed the question to Liam. It was the truth. How could she have been in contact with Daniel Taylor?
Liam looked at Emma's displeased face. Her tone was impatient, but it actually cleared his mood.
If she didn't see him as her own person, she wouldn't have said that.
Well, Liam decided to forgive this infuriating little woman for now. He wouldn't pursue her leaving the hospital without telling him.
He stepped forward, catching her off guard, and pulled her into his arms. He pressed his forehead against hers. The intimate gesture was so natural that not only Emma was stunned, but everyone else in the room was frozen.
Just moments ago, the atmosphere was tense and freezing. How did it suddenly become like this?
Amelia's almond eyes were about to burst into flames. She wanted to stab her knife-like gaze into Emma's hateful face.
Emilia's sickly, delicate face was full of surprise. She inadvertently caught the desolate pain hanging on Elijah's handsome profile. She couldn't help but wonder how this young, successful medical leader was so infatuated with his childhood love.
Emma is a lucky woman.
"Your forehead isn't hot. But when we get home, I'll have Dr. Moore give you a thorough examination."
Liam's magnetic voice was like fine wine. Emma felt intoxicated.
"Who is Dr. Moore?"
She was confused, but in Liam's eyes, she looked adorably dazed. Completely different from her usual sharp, capable self in work clothes. She was charming and lovely.
He couldn't help but reach out and gently tap the tip of her delicate nose. He had no idea how big the shadow was in the hearts of the three people watching. Their eyes were almost overflowing with jealousy, but he didn't care.
"Dr. Moore is our family's private physician. Don't worry, his medical skills are excellent. You can take care of your health at home."
Emma finally felt the reality of being too wealthy. A family doctor—this was the exclusive treatment of a prestigious family.
She thought back to the long lines she used to wait in just to get a number. Now, she was living comfortably in a VIP suite. It was almost too luxurious.
She was really afraid that a year later, when she left Liam, she wouldn't be able to bear living without this wealthy lifestyle.
This kind of greed is dangerous!
Just thinking about a year later...
