Chapter 176

Amelia White stood outside the door, her heart twisting with bitterness. After hearing Emilia Clark's words, her nails dug so deep into her palms that they left angry red crescents. But the physical pain was nothing compared to the scene playing out in that hospital room.

And now, she could only pretend she knew nothing.

Liam Williams watched Emma Johnson's flushed, smiling face and felt his mood lift. He leaned toward her slowly, inch by inch, until she squeezed her eyes shut in nervous anticipation.

Emma thought Liam was going to take advantage of her again, to steal another kiss. Her heart raced with anxiety, but... why was there a flicker of expectation deep inside?

Liam was thoroughly pleased with her reaction. He simply sat back in his original position and took a satisfied bite of wonton. Mm, delicious.

Emma's eyes flew open. She hadn't felt his touch. She cracked one eye open cautiously, only to see the smug grin spreading across Liam's face. Mortification washed over her, and she wished the floor would swallow her whole.

That insufferable man was playing with her!

Liam said casually, "Aren't you getting discharged tomorrow?"

Emma shot him a glare. "I wouldn't know."

"You look lively enough. Staying here is just wasting medicine."

Emma: "..."

This man never had a decent word to say!

What Liam really cared about was that every moment she stayed in this hospital, she kept running into Elijah Clark. It infuriated him!

Of course, Liam would never let Emma know that. He pinched her cheek and said, "You're coming home tomorrow. I'll have my personal physician take care of you."

"I'm fine right here, aren't I?" Emma mumbled.

But the man was as stubborn as the wind and rain. Once he made a decision, it was set in stone.

Liam gave her a pointed look. "No 'buts.' You're my wife, and I want it this way."

Emilia poked her head out from behind the curtain, a mischievous grin on her pale face. "Emma, the overbearing CEO has fallen for me!"

Emma: "..."

Liam seemed to be in a good mood. Seeing that he was about to finish the last wonton in the container, Emma reached out to snatch it.

"I'm the patient here! I should get priority. Why are you stealing food from me?"

Liam held the last wonton between his chopsticks, a teasing glint in his eyes. "The last one. Want it?"

Emma nodded eagerly.

"Then kiss me right here."

He was tempting her with food! Emma, adhering to her principle of defiant resistance, refused to give in.

But she couldn't just watch him eat that last wonton. She closed her eyes, steeled her heart, and leaned in.

A girl had to know when to bend. She could stoop for a single dumpling.

Emma puckered her lips and gave a quick peck. Liam, just as before, quickly popped the wonton into his own mouth. Then he put on an innocent expression. "Oops, my hand slipped."

He laughed silently.

Emma was furious. She'd fallen for the same trick twice!

Liam reached out and ruffled her hair. "There's another box."

Just as Emma was about to happily take it, Liam looked at her with a disgusted expression. "How many days has it been since you washed your hair?"

Emma immediately reached out and clamped her hand over his mouth, giving him a vicious glare. "If you don't know how to talk, I won't treat you like a mute!"

Never mind that she'd been stuck in the hospital for days.

Liam just smiled again. He loved seeing Emma angry and helpless.

Emilia pursed her lips, watching their happy interaction. Finally, she turned over, her back to Emma's bed, and grumbled, "Get a room, you two lovebirds!"

Emma comforted Emilia while eating her wontons. "Then get better soon, and find someone to show off with. I promise I won't tease you!"

Emilia's eyes held a light that couldn't quite be scattered. The world had always been so cruel.

God was never fair. When He closed a door for you, He just sealed the windows shut.

"Okay!" Emilia's voice was filled with infinite helplessness. From what Liam had just said, Emma would be discharged tomorrow.

"Emma, can I come play with you in the future?"

"Of course. When you're better, we can eat all the delicious food in the world, travel to every place we've ever dreamed of, and soak up all the handsome men we like. We'll have a blast."

When Emma said this, she had no idea that their relationship would take a dramatic turn.

Enough to make her reevaluate everything she knew about their precious friendship.

"Of course, I'll take you. You bring the money. The world is big, let's go see it!"

The two girls burst into silvery laughter.

Liam's face immediately darkened. "Did I just hear you say you want to soak up all the handsome men you like?"

Emma froze. "Huh? Did I say that?"

She was just joking around.

Liam was not amused. First, there was that ex-boyfriend, Noah Taylor. Then, a childhood sweetheart, Elijah Clark, popped up. Now she wanted to go out and soak up men she liked. When had this woman gotten so bold!

"You said it." Liam replied firmly.

"Oh, that was a slip of the tongue."

Emma took the container from Liam's hand. "Want some soup? The broth is really good."

Liam said in a low voice, "I want to eat you."

Hearing this, Emma instinctively scooted back. Unexpectedly, Liam laughed and teased, "Where did your mind go?"

"Where any normal mind would go, I thought you meant..."

Emma lifted the container to cover her face, leaving only her dark eyes visible, watching Liam's expression.

Liam couldn't help but laugh. "Put that down. You're going to drink the container itself if you keep this up!"

The wonton soup had long since settled at the bottom. This silly woman hadn't even noticed!

Embarrassed, Emma lowered the container. "Well, what are you going to do tonight?"

Liam said, "What do you think? I'm going back to the manor with Amelia. I'll pick you up tomorrow morning."

Emma saw the look in Liam's eyes and understood clearly. She'd better not try anything.

But it was just one night. Even if she wanted to cause trouble, it was impossible.

Emma stared at Liam, her eyes filled with frustration. They seemed angry, but they were also lovely and charming. If there wasn't someone else in the room, Liam would have wanted to press her down on the bed and kiss her.

"Brother, let's go back. My sister-in-law needs to rest."

Just as Liam and Emma were flirting and making up, Amelia White's voice cut in, perfectly timed.
