Chapter 12

Damn it. This woman was far too easy to read. Her desire was written all over her face. Truth be told, at this moment, Liam had a sudden, violent urge to just pin her down and have his way with her.

After a few tense seconds, he quickly grabbed the bathrobe from the hanger, wrapped it tightly around her body, then gently lifted her and placed her on her pink bed.

"Where does it hurt? Where's the first-aid kit? I'll take care of it." Liam's voice was unexpectedly soft.

"Bottom drawer. There's some liquid medicine." Emma sniffled, wiping her tears. Her beautiful, wide eyes were even more captivating now, glistening with unshed tears.

"You twisted your ankle, didn't you?" Liam asked gently, applying the medicine while softly blowing on the wound to soothe the sting. "Anywhere else hurt?"

"My right knee is scraped too..." Emma bit her lower lip, pointing a trembling finger at her knee.

Liam lifted the bath towel from her leg. Just as he was about to apply the medicine, Emma stopped him. "Don't look! Or I'll... I'll gouge your eyes out..."

Hearing this, Liam nearly choked. He thought to himself, I've already seen everything there is to see. But he said nothing, simply increasing the pressure of his hand as a silent reprimand.

"Ah, it hurts! Liam, go easy... please..." Emma cried out from the sudden pain, tears streaming down her cheeks and dripping onto the back of his hand.

"What was that? I didn't quite catch that..." Liam's heart softened a little, but he didn't lessen the pressure, making her wince in pain.

"I said it hurts. Could you please be gentler..." Emma's voice was much weaker now. She knew that provoking him at this moment would only make things worse.

"What do you call me? I didn't hear you clearly just now. Who am I to you?" The man pressed further. Emma felt like tearing his face off.

What do you mean you didn't hear me? You heard me perfectly well!

There's not a single ounce of gentlemanly behavior in you.

"I called you Liam... no, honey. You're my husband." Emma hesitated, the words tasting bitter on her tongue. But Liam was clearly pleased.

"That's better, isn't it? My dear wife, you should know by now that I respond better to gentleness than to force."

Satisfied with her answer, Liam's touch became incredibly gentle. He applied the medicine, pausing every now and then to blow on the wound, cooling the sting.

A cool sensation spread from her ankle to her knee. That gentle breeze seemed to blow straight into her heart.

Emma's heart felt warm. It was almost like an illusion. How could this violent, domineering man become her husband in just one day?

"Liam, why did you really marry me? I can't stop thinking about it. You knew from the very beginning that I had mistaken you for someone else. So why did you agree to marry me?" Emma couldn't help but ask.

When he heard her ask this question again, Liam's expression shifted slightly. He didn't look up to meet her eyes, but instead lowered his head and muttered to himself, "Why so many questions? We're married now, aren't we? What good would it do to regret it now? Fool."

Such a simple, straightforward answer left Emma completely baffled. She couldn't figure out what this man was thinking. So she just let out a soft "Oh," and didn't press further.

Liam's casual expression concealed the sharpness in his eyes. When he wanted to hide something, no one could see through him.

Emma felt much better, finally able to lie down and sleep comfortably. But to her surprise, Liam went to the bathroom to wash his hands, then turned off the light and climbed straight into her bed.

"Hey! What do you think you're doing, Liam? I'm a patient now. Are you really going to fight an injured, weak woman for the bed? Aren't you afraid of being laughed at?" Emma thought her injury would make him wise up and sleep on the floor.

But who would have thought? This man, Liam, wouldn't even spare a weak, injured woman. It was clear he was worse than a beast.

"Precisely because you're a patient, I need to take care of you." Liam shamelessly rubbed against her, wrapping his arm around her waist.

"You don't have to get into bed to take care of a patient! And what do you think you're doing with that hand?" Emma was completely exasperated.

Was that hand on her waist really appropriate?

"Do you dare to move again or say another word? Do you believe I'll take you right here and now?" Liam warned impatiently.

Fine. Forget it. She didn't want to lose herself to him right now.

As soon as the words left his mouth, Emma didn't have the courage to say another word. She silently cursed him in her mind, made a gesture of zipping her lips, and obediently closed her eyes in his arms.

After a while, a steady breathing sound came from his arms. But Liam suddenly opened his eyes, staring expressionlessly at the woman in his arms, illuminated by the bright moonlight outside the window. His hand gently stroked her cheek, his deep eyes growing colder, as if the very air around them was freezing.

Just now, when Emma had gone to take a bath, he had received a text message.

His suspicions were finally confirmed.

Emma Johnson was the woman the organization had been searching for. Once she was found, everything would become clear.

Liam let out a sigh. But, Emma, what kind of woman are you? What secrets are you hiding?

And what is your relationship with him?

The night was as dark as ink. Liam held the beauty in his arms, but he couldn't sleep.

...

Liam must have slept late last night, because Emma was the first to wake up in the morning.

She opened her eyes and saw an incredibly perfect face. She couldn't help but raise her hand and gently trace the outline of his eyebrows.

Although Liam's face wasn't the most handsome in the world, it was unforgettable. His thick but finely shaped eyebrows were partially hidden under his slanted bangs. He had thick, dark eyelashes, a high nose bridge, and thin lips. His skin was fair, looking as if it would feel wonderful to the touch. His oval face was set on a slightly long neck. In today's popular terms, this appearance would not only make men jealous, but also plunge women who thought they were beautiful into despair.

Emma gently touched his lips with her finger, then quickly pulled it back, afraid of waking him.

A little lower, her fingers caressed his sexy, masculine Adam's apple. Emma's heart pounded fiercely, as if she wasn't in front of a man, but a rare treasure, waiting for her to explore one by one.

Her gaze couldn't help but drift to his chest. She was deeply attracted by his wheat-colored skin. The faint outline of his chest muscles under the covers sparked her imagination.

Emma swallowed, her right index finger slowly moving towards Liam's chest.

"Are you trying to take advantage of me while I'm asleep?" Liam suddenly opened his eyes, raising his hand to grasp her slender wrist.
