The next morning, Grace Miller arrived to help Evie move her things.
Evie didn’t have much stuff. She stayed at home often, so her dorm room was mostly empty.
Most of it was books. It was too heavy to carry all at once. She had already packed some textbooks into the trunk so she could use them later.
Everything else was ready to go.
Before Grace arrived, Evie had already moved her things to the dormitory entrance with Em and the others.
“Em, what time is your train tomorrow? I’ll see you off!” “No need. I’ll go back with some people from my hometown. We’ll look out for each other.” Em shook her head with a smile.
“It’s fine. I’ll come help you. You have so much stuff!” Evie said, feeling uneasy.
“Not all of it. Some I’ll bring back next semester. The rest I’ll mail.”
“Okay. I’ll text you tomorrow!” Evie agreed.
Grace helped carry the luggage into the trunk and the back seat.
Evie waved goodbye to Em and got into the passenger seat.
Em returned to the dorm. Stella was just waking up.
“Why are you up so early?” Stella asked, rubbing her eyes.
“It’s ten o’clock!” Em sat down at her desk.
“Ten o’clock? I slept that well? I actually slept until ten?” Stella said in surprise, running a hand through her messy hair.
“Yeah. Evie left a while ago.”
“So soon? I didn’t even give her the money yet!” Stella looked down at Em.
“Don’t bother. She won’t take it. And guess what? That assistant, Grace, came to pick her up again. Isn’t Grace Alexander’s assistant?” Em leaned back in her chair and looked at Stella.
“Really? Grace came to get her today?” Stella asked curiously.
“Yeah.” Em nodded.
“Come help me over here!”
“I don’t know. Maybe.” Em replied. She felt something was off, but she couldn’t quite put her finger on it.
Grace drove Evie home. She helped carry the luggage inside and then left.
Once home, Evie started unpacking.
Some clothes needed to go into the closet. Others, for the new season, needed to be put away.
She also had to sort through her books and put them on the shelf.
Victoria heard the noise and came over. Seeing Evie organizing things, she asked, “Moving out already? Going to take care of your new family so soon?”
“No. I brought these back from school. I’m just sorting them out.” Evie’s face turned red. She looked up at her sister, who was leaning against the doorframe with her hair a mess, still not dressed, and answered awkwardly.
“You don’t have to come back and take care of this house, you know.”
“I’ll come back and stay often!” Evie was embarrassed for a long moment.
“You’d better not. People will think you and your husband are fighting all the time.”
“Sister—” Evie protested.
“I’m just joking. This is always your home. You can come back anytime.”
Evie smiled and nodded. “That’s right.”
She knew her sister didn’t want her to get married. But Victoria always expressed it in a strange way. Evie was used to it.
“I’m not going to talk to you anymore. I need to brush my teeth and wash my face.” Victoria scratched her messy hair.
“You haven’t brushed your teeth yet?”
“I was sleeping so well! You woke me up!” Victoria glared at Evie.
“Sister, it’s almost noon.”
“I didn’t go to bed until two in the morning!”
“Sister, why did you come back so late?” Evie asked, eyes wide with surprise.
“Going to bed late doesn’t mean coming back late! Little girl, I’m not telling you!” Victoria said, turning and walking toward her bedroom.
As she walked, she muttered, “Little girls are getting married, and I’m still a big girl with no one.”
Evie was speechless.
Evie was about to go out and see Em off when her phone rang. It was Ethan.
“Auntie, take me out to dinner!” Ethan said, sounding bored on the other end.
Evie was speechless again. “No time. I’m going to see my roommate off at the train station.”
“Pretty?” Ethan immediately asked, curious.
He was like a bee smelling a flower. He wanted to fly straight over.
“Absolutely stunning.”
“I’ll drive you there. I can meet your roommate!”
“Aren’t you gay?” Evie was exasperated.
“Gay guys can still appreciate beautiful women!”
“Don’t you dare mess with my roommate!” “Auntie, how can you talk about your nephew like that!”
“Can you just talk normally?” Evie felt goosebumps.
“I’m already at your door. Come out and see me!” Ethan said with a smile, his tone soft.
Evie couldn’t help but shiver. It scared her to death.
Sitting in Ethan’s flashy sports car, Evie didn’t know how to describe her feelings.
Alexander was so normal. How could he have such a weird nephew?
Well, Ethan wasn’t Alexander’s son. It made sense that he was different.
But they were blood related. Shouldn’t they be at least a little similar?
It was just another unsolved mystery.
“Are we going straight to the airport, or to the school first?” Ethan asked as he drove.
“Not the airport. Not the school. The train station. My roommate is taking the train home.”
“Isn’t the train really slow?”
“It’s cheap.”
“Okay.” Ethan had nothing else to say.
“Have you been busy lately?” Evie turned to look at Ethan.
“Our family is busy enough. I don’t need to cause trouble.” Ethan said with a smile.
“Our family?” Evie said, confused.
“Yeah. You married my uncle. That makes you family, right?” Ethan replied boldly.
Evie couldn’t argue with that. “So you don’t do anything? You leave it all to your uncle?”
Evie couldn’t help but feel sorry for Alexander.
“I try to help. But my uncle says it’s better if I don’t cause him any trouble.”
Evie was speechless.
No wonder Alexander always had to work overtime.
“Where is your roommate from?”
“I’m not telling you. And don’t say anything stupid later!” Evie warned him in advance.
“Your roommates don’t know about you and my uncle yet?”
“I haven’t told them. You’re not allowed to talk about it!”
“Sigh. My poor uncle. He’s married to you, and he’s still a secret lover.” Ethan sighed dramatically.
Evie was speechless again.
It was a waste that Ethan didn’t go into acting.
Evie arrived at the train station first. The bus Em was on hadn’t arrived yet.
Evie waited outside.
Fifteen minutes later, the bus arrived at the terminal. Almost all the students who got off were preparing to take the train home.
Evie spotted Em. “Em!”
She ran over to help carry her luggage.
Em looked up, saw Evie, and smiled. “You’re really fast!”
“I had a driver today!” Evie glanced at Ethan and smiled.
