Alexander seemed to be getting better. He should be fine to leave the hospital in two days.
But that night, as Evelyn sat in a daze, she heard something. It sounded like someone talking, or maybe someone groaning in pain.
She tried to get closer to hear better. Then she woke up with a start.
It wasn't surprising that Alexander was in the same bed with her right now.
She thought about getting up to go to the bathroom. But she felt Alexander's body temperature was a little hot behind her. She quickly reached out to feel his forehead. It was so hot that she froze for a long time.
Then she heard Alexander mumbling nonsense.
"I don't want a divorce!"
"Evelyn, don't leave me!"
...
After a long moment, Evelyn turned on the light and rang the call bell.
Soon the nurse came to take his temperature. It was burning at 40 degrees. She asked Evelyn to wipe Alexander's body with warm water. Then she went to call the doctor.
Evelyn went to get warm water. She soaked a towel and wiped Alexander's body.
After the doctor examined him, he said the inflammation was getting worse. He asked the nurse to prepare the nebulizer.
Then he told Evelyn that if Alexander's temperature didn't drop, they would give him fever medicine. He also told the nurse to prepare ice packs.
Evelyn nodded repeatedly. Actually, her mind was blank. For a moment, she didn't know what to do.
When she saw the towel in her hand, she realized she needed to wipe Alexander's body again.
After wiping Alexander down, Evelyn took his temperature again. It was still 40 degrees.
Evelyn poured half a cup of warm water. Then she helped Alexander sit up and called softly,
"Alexander, take your medicine."
Alexander murmured. He half-opened his eyes for a long time. Then he closed them drowsily again.
"Alexander, take the medicine first. After you finish, you can sleep!" Evelyn couldn't help him, but she insisted.
Alexander answered again. This time, he opened his eyes and woke up.
After Evelyn fed Alexander the fever medicine, she helped him lie down again.
Because of the high fever, she couldn't cover him with a thick blanket. Evelyn changed Alexander to a thin quilt.
Alexander, still burning with fever, vaguely grabbed Evelyn's hand and said,
"Don't leave me!"
"I won't!" Evelyn replied softly.
"Promise me!"
"I promise!" Evelyn answered.
Alexander was relieved and fell asleep.
Evelyn murmured sadly,
"Do you even know who I am?"
But she heard Alexander reply,
"You're my wife, Evelyn!"
Evelyn looked up at Alexander. She didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
"Didn't you say you'd listen to me? I want you to get better now!"
"Evelyn, I don't have any strength!" Alexander groaned in pain.
"Then why didn't you cooperate with the treatment? Why didn't you listen to the doctor?"
"Evelyn, if I die, will you forget me soon?"
Evelyn slapped Alexander across the face and said angrily,
"What are you talking about?"
Alexander's cheek was still hot.
Alexander smiled, but his face was very red.
"Alexander, stop messing around. Get better soon. When you're well, I'll forgive you!" Evelyn looked at Alexander and couldn't help choking up.
"Really?" Alexander opened his eyes and asked.
Evelyn was stunned for a long time.
"I knew you were joking with me!" Alexander sighed and closed his eyes again.
"No, I mean it. When you get better, I'll forgive you!" Evelyn said quickly.
"And then you'll come back and live with me?" Alexander asked again.
"Yes!" Evelyn nodded.
"I don't believe you. Write it down and sign it for me!"
"..."
In the end, Evelyn actually found a piece of paper and wrote a guarantee for Alexander. Alexander held the guarantee in his hand. No matter what, he wouldn't let it go.
That night, Alexander had a high fever.
Alexander's attending doctor rushed to the hospital overnight. After receiving the news, Ethan also rushed to the hospital from the Sterling Mansion.
Evelyn kept praying. She hoped Alexander would be okay. Otherwise, she would never forgive him for the rest of her life!
In the early morning, Alexander's fever gradually subsided. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
They just hoped it wouldn't come back.
In the morning, Alexander seemed to be back to normal. The first thing he said to Evelyn was,
"Evelyn, keep your word!"
Ethan turned to Evelyn and asked curiously,
"Aunt Evelyn, what did you promise?"
Then he heard Alexander and Evelyn say in unison, "None of your business!"
Ethan was stunned for a moment. But the next second, he laughed.
"You really are a couple. You're so in sync!"
"Ethan, there's nothing for you to do here. It's time for you to go to work." Alexander cleared his throat and said.
"What time do I have to go to work?" Ethan looked at the time and replied speechlessly.
"Just go. Have a buffet breakfast on the way!"
Ethan was completely defeated by his uncle.
Yesterday, his uncle's head was burning. He rushed to the hospital in a hurry.
As a result, as soon as his uncle's fever went down, he burned the bridge after crossing the river. He thought Ethan was an eyesore and told him to get lost.
It didn't matter if he left. But don't tell him to go back to the company!
He had been so busy in the company these days that he barely had time to go to the bathroom!
Alas, as expected, the chairman of Sterling Group wasn't an ordinary person's job!
After saying goodbye to Evelyn, Ethan went back to work first.
Only Alexander and Evelyn were left in the ward.
"How do you feel now?" Evelyn approached Alexander and asked.
"Like I climbed out of a fire, not an ice cave!" Alexander replied.
"What?" Evelyn looked confused.
"One moment I was cold, the next I was hot. Now I feel much more normal!" Alexander explained.
"You deserve it. You should have cooperated with the doctor!" Evelyn couldn't help but say.
"I did cooperate. I just followed the doctor's orders!"
"You're talking nonsense again!"
"Wife, I heard everything you said last night."
"What did I say? I don't remember!" Evelyn refused to admit it.
"I knew you wouldn't admit it. Luckily, I was prepared!" Alexander finished speaking and raised his hand.
Between his fingers was only a corner of the paper. And that piece of paper was nowhere to be seen.
"Well, where's the guarantee?" Alexander froze for a moment. The next second, he opened the quilt and started looking for the guarantee.
"Don't look, don't look!" Evelyn said anxiously.
"No, if I don't find it, what if you don't keep your word!" Alexander insisted.
"I'm telling you, I'll keep my word. You're bleeding from the back of your head!" Evelyn was getting anxious!
"What you say is what you say?" Alexander stopped, looked at Evelyn, and asked.
"Yes, it's my word. Stop making a fuss and lie down quickly!"
"Or you can write a new one!" Alexander demanded.
"..."
Evelyn was speechless for a long time.
Finally, to make Alexander stop, Evelyn wrote a new guarantee for him.
