“Are you sleeping at your mom’s place tonight?” Emily Hart asked, surprised.
“Yes,” Evelyn Vance replied.
She didn’t explain much. Until Alexander Sterling made the official announcement, she didn’t want to talk about her divorce with him. It would only cause unnecessary trouble.
After chatting with Emily for a while, Emily logged off to take a shower. Evelyn started checking her notes and researching.
She hadn’t studied in a while. Now, when she read these materials, she struggled.
She wasn’t a brilliant student before, but she could grasp things quickly because she kept learning.
Now, she had to stop and think about what some sentences meant.
It was true. If you didn’t study every day, you degenerated.
Hearing the baby cry, Evelyn stopped what she was doing. She got up to check on him.
It was late at night by the time Evelyn could sleep.
Her phone buzzed with a text message. She picked it up from the nightstand. It was a message from Alexander. A selfie.
In the photo, his face was distorted and funny.
But the background was even funnier.
Alexander was actually lying on the floor.
Evelyn didn’t want to text back. She called him directly.
“Still awake?” Alexander asked, a smile in his voice.
“About to go to bed. Why aren’t you in your room?” Evelyn replied.
On the second floor, there was a bedroom for Alexander. It was his bedroom before she married him.
“I’m scared to sleep in that bedroom!” Alexander answered on the other end.
Evelyn almost laughed at his words.
A man nearly six feet three inches tall told her he was afraid to sleep alone.
“Isn’t that your original bedroom?” Evelyn asked, confused.
“Yes, but now I have a phobia about it. Every time you were angry with me, you sent me there to sleep. I have psychological trauma!” Alexander sighed.
Evelyn was speechless.
“When did you become so timid?”
“Ever since I met you!” Alexander replied, his tone firm.
“…” Evelyn choked. For a moment, she didn’t know how to respond.
“Evelyn, we’ve only been apart for a few hours. I already miss you. What should I do?”
“Just go to sleep!”
“Alright. You should sleep early too. You’re tired from taking care of the baby and working all day.”
“I’m fine. You have work tomorrow. Sleep early! Tomorrow, I’ll have the bed moved back to your dad’s place!”
“No, I’ll buy a new one!”
“Fine. Whatever makes you happy! Good night, Alexander,” Evelyn said.
“Good night, wife!”
Evelyn paused for a long time. Then she hung up.
Looking at the photo of Alexander lying on the floor, Evelyn didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
She didn’t know what he was trying to do. But she wouldn’t change her decision because of this.
After all, it was easy to go back. But starting over was hard.
She put the phone back on the nightstand. She turned off the light and lay down to sleep.
When the baby woke up in the middle of the night, she woke up too. She changed his diaper and fed him. When he fell asleep, she could finally sleep again.
She only got a few hours of sleep that night.
When she got up the next morning, she looked exhausted.
“I told you, you can’t take care of a baby alone. But you have to be brave. Look, you’ve turned into a panda,” Amelia Vance glared at her and said angrily. Then she hugged the baby and cooed at him.
“I’m not used to it yet. I’ll get used to it,” Evelyn replied, keeping her temper.
She felt she needed to learn and adapt to many things. Now she had a nanny to help. She could learn slowly.
Amelia looked at her youngest daughter helplessly. She didn’t scold her anymore. She just told Evelyn to have breakfast.
Evelyn smiled and went to eat.
After breakfast, Evelyn didn’t go back to the bedroom to catch up on sleep. Instead, she cleaned the table and washed the dishes.
The baby’s sister-in-law was with him.
Amelia had said yesterday that from now on, Evelyn would do all the housework.
In truth, Amelia got up early to make breakfast and clean up.
She said harsh words, but in the end, she was soft-hearted. She was just scaring her daughter. She didn’t really want to abuse her.
Evelyn finished cleaning and came out of the kitchen.
“Evelyn, I’ve already cleaned everything. Go back to your bedroom and rest. The baby has me and your sister-in-law. You can relax,” Amelia said.
“Mom, I’m not sleepy. Let’s go out later!”
“You’ve turned into a panda. Do you still have the energy to go shopping?” Amelia glanced at her daughter.
“It’s fine!” Evelyn smiled and hugged her mother’s shoulder.
Later, Evelyn, her mother, and her sister-in-law went out with the baby.
She bought some things along the way.
Amelia complained about what she bought. She couldn’t help but tease, “You really want to keep me and your dad forever!”
“No, I can support my parents for the rest of my life!” Evelyn replied with a smile.
Amelia sneered at her words.
Evelyn and her children stayed at her mother’s house for a week. During that time, Alexander came for dinner three nights. Almost every other day.
Evelyn entertained him as usual. On one hand, guests were guests. On the other hand, Alexander was the baby’s father. It was normal for him to see the baby.
But today, he didn’t look good.
“Didn’t you sleep well?” Evelyn couldn’t help asking.
“I haven’t slept well in a week,” Alexander replied, looking at her.
“I told you, you know the bed. Why did you want to move it to my place?” Evelyn said, a little annoyed.
“Don’t you think it’s more comfortable in our bed?” Alexander replied with a smile.
“No, I don’t know the bed as well as you do,” Evelyn didn’t buy it.
Alexander looked at her and smiled. He didn’t argue.
“Go upstairs and sleep. I’ll call you later,” Evelyn couldn’t bear to see him like this. She let him go upstairs to sleep.
“Good!” Alexander didn’t refuse. He agreed directly.
Alexander agreed so readily. Evelyn felt a little uneasy in her heart. She regretted her suggestion.
But she couldn’t take it back.
Alexander went upstairs. Evelyn took the baby to play in the living room.
“Where’s Alexander? Did he go back?” William Vance came downstairs and asked Evelyn.
“No, he’s resting in my bedroom. Dad, do you need him? I’ll call him!” Evelyn answered quickly.
She couldn’t help but feel relieved. Finally, she had an excuse to go upstairs and wake Alexander up.
“I have nothing to do. I don’t need to argue with him,” William replied.
“Oh,” Evelyn answered, disappointed.
Her best excuse just slipped away! Alas!
Now she didn’t know how to ask Alexander to get up and go back home!
