Alexander Sterling was no longer a stranger to her. He was her husband. He was the father of her child. More importantly, she had fallen in love with him. She cared about every single thing about him.
Most people would think she was being ridiculous. They would say she had everything. Support. Money. A perfect husband.
But only a few people could truly understand her situation. Even her best friend, Charlie, said she wanted to support her. But she was afraid it would hurt her.
If Alexander had a bad personality. If his character was questionable. If he was poor. Then none of this would be a problem.
Everyone would support her decision to divorce him.
But when material conditions and worldly views got mixed in, everything changed.
Evelyn told Charlie on the phone that she wasn't sure her decision was right. But at this moment, she truly felt that she and Alexander couldn't last.
Love was short. Many marriages didn't end because love faded.
But once love was tainted with impurities, marriage became impure.
That was why she felt that if she hadn't fallen in love with Alexander, all of this would be bearable.
Alexander came home a little late. He had an important dinner party that evening.
He rarely took her to parties. She wasn't used to those occasions.
During their first year of marriage, he took her twice. He noticed she was uncomfortable and reserved. After that, he never took her again. Except for very important occasions where they had to attend together.
Tonight, he had clearly drunk too much. He was staggering when he walked.
He kept apologizing to her. He said he drank too much. He didn't mean to. He blamed those people for constantly toasting him.
Evelyn wanted to say, if you don't drink, can others force you?
But she knew very well that Alexander couldn't help himself.
Evelyn wanted him to rest first before taking a bath.
Alexander insisted on bathing first. Otherwise, Evelyn wouldn't like the smell of alcohol.
Evelyn had no choice. She helped him into the bathroom. Then she asked uneasily, "Can you do it yourself?"
"If not, will you wash it for me?" Alexander looked at her and asked.
"No!" Evelyn rolled her eyes.
In truth, she knew she would help if he really couldn't wash himself.
But since he could ask like that, he wasn't that drunk.
"Then what's the point of drinking?" Alexander sighed.
"Be careful. Call me if you need anything." Evelyn finished speaking and walked out of the bathroom, pulling the door shut.
Alexander turned on the shower faucet. Water poured down immediately.
He didn't even take off his clothes.
Evelyn sat on the sofa in the bedroom, waiting for him to finish.
She had already prepared his clothes.
After he washed, he could just change.
After sitting for more than half an hour, Alexander still hadn't come out.
She started to get restless. She got up and walked to the bathroom. She knocked on the door. No response. She opened the door and went in.
Alexander was lying in the bathtub, fast asleep.
Evelyn froze. After a moment, she came back to her senses. Her mood was complicated.
She rolled up her sleeves. She bent down to check the water temperature. It was cold.
"Alexander, don't sleep here. You'll catch a cold!" Evelyn tried to wake him up.
Alexander just mumbled. He turned over and almost slid into the water.
Evelyn was startled. She quickly reached out and grabbed his collar, stopping him from sliding down.
Alexander half-opened his eyes. He saw Evelyn and smiled. "Evelyn, there you are..."
Then he fell asleep again.
Evelyn was speechless. She didn't know what he meant by that sentence. She couldn't worry about it now.
First, she let the cold water out of the bathtub. Then she added hot water while helping him take off his clothes.
After a long struggle, Alexander's body finally warmed up.
Evelyn was already sweating.
She quickly bathed him. Then she pulled a towel, wrapped him up, and patted his face to wake him up. "Alexander, wake up. Go to bed!"
Alexander was awakened by her. He looked at her sleepily.
"Don't sleep here. Get up!" Evelyn said while dragging him up.
Alexander finally got up. His towel slipped down. He looked down at himself.
Evelyn was embarrassed. She explained, "You just took a bath!"
"Oh." Alexander answered.
The next second, before Evelyn could react, he said, "You want to sleep!"
Before she could understand, Alexander lifted her up by the waist. He quickly walked out of the bathroom.
"Alexander, what are you doing?" Evelyn cried out.
"Sleep!" Alexander answered. He lay down and covered Evelyn with his body.
Evelyn didn't have time to say anything. Her lips were sealed by his.
At the same time, Alexander pulled the quilt over them. Suddenly, there was no figure on the bed. Only the swaying quilt.
Early in the morning, Evelyn woke up.
She turned her head and saw Alexander sleeping soundly, holding her. Then the scenes from last night flashed through her mind like a fast-forward.
Evelyn suddenly felt depressed.
What was the essence of alcohol? Looking at Alexander last night, she understood.
He was like an animal!
She didn't even have a chance to cry for help. He made her collapse.
At this moment, she really wanted to slap him off the bed.
They were getting divorced. What was this now!
Wasn't it useless?
Alexander opened his eyes. He met Evelyn's fierce gaze, as if she wanted to swallow him.
Alexander was stunned for a moment. Then he pulled Evelyn closer and asked softly, "What's wrong?"
Evelyn almost choked.
This guy was asking her innocently what was wrong?
The next second, Alexander seemed to notice something. He lifted the quilt and looked down.
Evelyn screamed. She pressed the quilt down to stop him from looking.
Alexander smiled. "We're an old married couple. Why are you so shy! I don't know. I thought last night was our wedding night."
Evelyn almost couldn't breathe. She said angrily, "We're not husband and wife. We already agreed to divorce!"
"The agreement was signed, but it's still here!" Alexander emphasized.
"I'll be gone in three months!" Evelyn puffed up her cheeks and answered angrily.
"That's three months from now. You're still my wife." Alexander hugged her and said with a smile.
Because they were both naked, Alexander's action made Evelyn even more embarrassed. Even her ears turned red.
And Alexander seemed completely unashamed. He was willing to do anything.
