Chapter 430

After Evelyn Sterling formally filed for divorce from Alexander, she started drafting the separation agreement.

She turned on the computer.

A file caught her eye—the postnuptial agreement she’d drawn up right after their wedding.

It was an electronic document, still saved on the hard drive.

Evelyn opened it.

She stared at the terms, remembering the day Alexander had signed it. A smile tugged at her lips.

She could still hear his voice from back then—

“Evie, I don’t have time to play these games with you.”

“You’re twenty, not twelve.”

“Besides, when I marry, I don’t plan on divorcing. That means you’re my only wife.”

“If we ever separate, it’ll be because one of us dies. Not because of a divorce.”

“Get that straight.”

Back then, his expression was pure arrogance—like he owned the world.

She’d been a little scared of him. She’d thought her future would be miserable.

But as time passed, she realized that tough exterior was just his armor.

Underneath all that coldness, he had a playful, almost childish heart.

He’d walk up to her waiting at the door and ask, “Whose lost little girl is this?”

He’d threaten her like a rogue, saying if she ever called him one again, he’d kiss her once.

Every memory of him was so vivid. Like it all happened yesterday.

Evelyn sighed.

This marriage had given her more beautiful memories than she’d ever expected.

She downloaded a standard divorce agreement template from the internet and began editing it.

Lily Thompson knocked on the door. “Miss, the soup is ready. Please drink it while it’s hot.”

Evelyn glanced at the time. Three hours had passed without her noticing.

She saved the document and shut down the computer.

Downstairs, she went to check on the baby in the nursery.

But the room was empty.

“Lily, where’s the nanny and the baby?”

“The nanny took the little one to the garden for some sun.”

“Oh.” Evelyn nodded and said nothing more.

On nice days, the nanny always took the baby outside for a walk. A change of scenery and some sunshine were good for the child.

Lily brought the soup to the table.

Evelyn washed her hands, sat down, and drank the broth Lily had been simmering for hours.

Lily had been making her soup every single day. Evelyn had run out of excuses to refuse.

But honestly, she was sick of it.

“Lily, can we take a break for a week? I really don’t feel like having soup these days,” Evelyn said between sips.

“What would you like to eat, Miss? I’ll make it for you!” Lily asked.

“Just three meals a day is fine. You don’t need to cook extra for me.”

“I can’t do that. Mr. Sterling specifically told me to make sure you’re well-nourished!” Lily shook her head.

“Do you think I’ve gained weight lately?” Evelyn cupped her chin and asked.

“No!” Lily shook her head again.

“See? It doesn’t make a difference whether I have the soup or not. Better not waste it.”

“Maybe my method is wrong. I’ll consult a nutritionist tomorrow and change the recipe,” Lily replied.

“No, no!” Evelyn waved her hands. “How about we switch it up? Make a dessert tomorrow instead?”

“Alright, what kind of dessert would you like, Miss?” Lily asked.

“Mango sago. And mango pomelo sago,” Evelyn said after thinking for a moment.

“Okay, I’ll make it tomorrow!”

“I’ll help you. I’ve got nothing else to do anyway!” Evelyn chimed in.

“Miss, you’ll have to watch the little master.”

“He’ll be asleep. We can make it together. It’ll pass the time!”

Lily just smiled and nodded.

That evening, after dinner, Alexander called Evelyn into his study.

He handed her a document.

“If you have no objections, sign the divorce agreement. I’ll have the lawyer register it tomorrow. It’ll take effect immediately.”

Evelyn hadn’t expected him to be so straightforward this time. It made her heart feel strangely heavy.

“What? Is the happiness too sudden?” Alexander looked at her.

Evelyn met his gaze.

“It is sudden. Let me take a look. If there’s no problem, I’ll sign it tomorrow.”

“Read it now. If anything’s unclear, I can explain. If you want to add anything, you can do it directly.”

“No need to rush,” Evelyn said, surprised. “Are you that eager to get divorced?”

“It’s only a day or two.”

“I don’t like dragging things out. Let’s settle this quickly.”

Evelyn didn’t argue. She sat down and read the agreement page by page.

The terms were simple.

After the divorce, the child would stay with Evelyn. Alexander would pay full child support every month.

All of Alexander’s personal assets, except for the company equity, would go to Evelyn.

But there was one condition.

Until Alexander remarried, Evelyn could not remarry.

“You don’t have to give me so much money. When the child is older and starts kindergarten, I can go back to work.”

“Evie, do you think I’m short on cash?”

“I know you’re not. But I don’t want it, okay?”

“Fine. Then how much do you need each month?”

“Don’t forget, the baby is still small. Between the nanny’s salary, formula, diapers, clothes, and toys, it adds up to a lot.”

“Don’t put down too little,” Alexander reminded her.

“…” Evelyn was speechless for a long moment.

She estimated a reasonable amount, wrote it down, and specified that the payment would be halved once the child started kindergarten, continuing until the child reached adulthood.

“You don’t need to give me your personal assets. We signed a prenuptial agreement. Your assets have nothing to do with me.”

“I had the lawyer void that one. This agreement takes precedence from now on,” Alexander replied.

“If you give me all your money, how will you live?” Evelyn asked.

“You don’t think I can support myself?”

“No. I just don’t think it’s necessary.”

“Since you’re the one who proposed the divorce, the terms shouldn’t be too lenient. Unless you don’t actually want a divorce.” Alexander’s face was expressionless.

Evelyn looked up at him. She had no choice but to skip the joke and continue.

“Why can’t I remarry before you do? That’s completely unreasonable.”

“You’re the one who asked for the divorce. I have to protect my pride. If you remarry right after we split, what will people think?” Alexander stared at her.

Evelyn was stunned. She had no comeback.

If they cared that much about what others thought, they wouldn’t be able to live at all.
