“Asking me is useless. You should beg An Jiu for forgiveness, not me!” Iris Hart said, her face deliberately stern.
“As long as you’re willing to help me, there won’t be any problem!” Alexander Sterling pleaded.
Iris glanced at him and spoke a meaningful sentence.
“You have to handle this yourself. If you can’t hold onto your treasure, plenty of people will covet it.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll guard it with my life!” Alexander promised with a smile.
Iris was amused by him.
“Go on, go on. Go spend time with An Jiu. I already know everything you’ve said!”
“Thank you, Iris!”
“Thank me? If I really don’t help you, I’ll just watch you play the bachelor forever!
But I should make things a little hard for you, or you’ll never learn.
Don’t think that just because your family has money, and you’re handsome and talented, the whole world should revolve around you!”
“You’re right, Iris. I don’t want the whole world to revolve around me now. I just want to revolve around my wife!” Alexander laughed.
Iris stared at him and chuckled.
Alexander went upstairs. Evelyn had just come out of the bathroom after a shower. She was drying her hair with her head down.
Alexander took the towel and started drying it for her.
“Don’t mess around!” Evelyn pulled the towel back.
“Wife, I want to serve you!” Alexander flattered.
“No need!” Evelyn refused bluntly.
“Then you can need it once in a while!” Alexander said, moving closer to her.
Evelyn looked up at him.
“Alexander, have you been taking the wrong medicine lately?”
“No,” he replied simply.
“Then why are you acting so strange?” Evelyn shot him a glance and walked away.
Alexander touched his nose. His wife said he’d taken the wrong medicine.
Evelyn sat down on the sofa. Alexander sat beside her.
“Iris is going to stay at our house for a while.”
“Oh,” Evelyn answered without saying anything else.
“Iris is in poor health. She can’t handle being upset. Don’t tell her you want a divorce,” Alexander continued.
Evelyn turned to look at him. Was this guy a broken record?
“I won’t tell anyone. We’ll just go through the formalities directly!”
“No. If we do that, the whole world will know that the chairman of Sterling Group got dumped by his wife!”
Evelyn stared at him like he was crazy.
“You think you’re the president? That the whole world cares about your marital status?”
“I’m not the president, but I’m still good enough for gossip reporters to dig up dirt. The moment we step into the Civil Affairs Bureau, the paparazzi will follow us.”
“You’re talking nonsense! If you don’t believe me, search the news about me online. You’ll see they don’t even let me have dinner with anyone!”
“You think you’re a celebrity!”
“Not a celebrity. A new financial star.”
“Ugh—” Evelyn made a gagging motion.
Alexander smiled.
“Don’t treat your husband like this.”
“You’re about to become my ex-husband,” Evelyn replied.
“Well, the premise of being an ex-husband is going through the formalities. We’re still a legal couple.”
Evelyn said nothing. She couldn’t refute that.
After Evelyn finished drying her hair, Alexander still sat beside her.
“Aren’t you going to take a shower?” Evelyn asked, puzzled.
“I have a headache. I’ll wash later,” Alexander groaned.
Evelyn looked at him. She thought he was acting again.
“Stop pretending. Cry wolf too many times, and no one will believe you.”
“I really have a headache,” Alexander frowned.
“Then keep hurting,” Evelyn said, getting up to grab the hairdryer.
Alexander watched her back and sighed.
It seemed Evelyn had really given up on him.
When he thought about it, he couldn’t help feeling lost.
Alas, as Iris said,
He didn’t know how to cherish it when he had it. Now that he was about to lose it, he desperately wanted to get it back.
But whether he could get it back was still unknown!
Alexander sighed again.
Evelyn, who was drying her hair, turned to look at him with his head down. She wondered if his headache was real. He rarely got sick, but when he did, it was always serious.
Once, it was a stomachache. Later, he went to the hospital and found out it was a gastric bleed.
Another time, he had a bad cold and fainted at the company.
Sometimes he acted like a child, not knowing how to take care of himself.
Evelyn couldn’t help sighing. She still felt sorry for him. She couldn’t bear to see him like this.
After Evelyn finished drying her hair, Alexander went into the bathroom to shower.
Evelyn called his personal doctor and asked him to come over.
She couldn’t rest easy.
When Alexander came out of the bathroom, he heard Evelyn say,
“I called the doctor. He’ll come over later to check on your headache.”
“Did you tell the doctor my heart hurts too?”
“Heartache?” Evelyn looked at him in surprise. “Is it serious?”
“Very serious. But heart disease needs a heart medicine doctor.”
“What do you mean?” Evelyn squinted.
“You’re the only antidote,” Alexander hugged her and smiled.
Evelyn rolled her eyes.
“Can you be more childish?”
“Really!” Alexander pressed his forehead to hers.
“Lie down for a while. I’ll give you a massage. Wait for the doctor to come. If it’s really bad, you’d better see a doctor.”
Evelyn was stunned for a moment.
She hadn’t seen Alexander so obedient.
So the next scene played out. Alexander lay flat with a thermometer in his mouth.
Evelyn sat beside him, massaging his head to ease the pain.
“Wife, you’re so beautiful,” Alexander said without stopping.
Evelyn glanced at him and didn’t respond.
“Wife, you look even better after having a baby.”
Evelyn still didn’t respond. After a while, she said,
“Don’t you have a headache? How can you still be in the mood to flirt?”
“I’m not flirting. I’m flirting with my wife—wrong, I’m coaxing my wife!” Alexander took out the thermometer and replied.
“You’d better rest.
Stop thinking about things you don’t have. Maybe your headache will go away,” Evelyn sneered, then took the thermometer from his hand and looked at it.
It was almost 39 degrees.
And this guy could still joke with her and talk to her.
She was really defeated by him.
