Some people are just destined to never let go of another.
They know being together is impossible.
Logic can never beat emotion.
So they either drift along or fight with all their might.
If feelings could be controlled, there would be far less pain.
But if they could be controlled, they wouldn't be feelings.
They wouldn't be so beautiful or unforgettable.
That's the irresistible charm of love.
After living in her new house for nearly a week, Alexander came to pick her up after work.
"Is it over?" Evie asked, looking at him happily.
"Yes," Alexander met her eyes and smiled.
Scarlett and Nathan would never have a chance to make a comeback in their lifetime.
The embezzled public funds and the massive foreign debts they owed were enough to keep them paying off debts and serving time in prison.
"Well, then I can move freely now, right?" Evie asked again.
She wanted to ask about his third sister.
But she didn't.
When someone decides to destroy you, caring about them is pointless.
And she wasn't that forgiving or fraternal.
She couldn't pretend nothing happened.
At most, she just wouldn't care anymore.
"Not yet. You have to wait until the baby is born before you can do whatever you want," Alexander replied with a smile.
Evie couldn't help but roll her eyes at him.
But he was in a good mood, so she rubbed her face against his chest.
"Come on, I'll take you back tonight," Alexander said, putting his arm around her shoulder.
"Back where?" Evie asked.
"If I don't take you home, maybe your parents and sister will come to the company to ask for help," Alexander joked.
"How is that possible!" Evie said, laughing.
But she had to admit, if she hadn't been back for a while, she wouldn't put it past her excitable mother to do something like that.
"How is Mom doing?" Evie followed Alexander out of the villa and got into the car.
"Do you mean my mother or your mother?" Alexander asked deliberately.
"Your mother, of course!" Evie replied directly.
What a tongue twister!
"Mom is doing very well, but she misses you a little."
"Should we go back to your house first?"
"Evie, I think there's a problem I need to correct and emphasize."
"It's not your house, it's our house."
"Okay, should we go back to our house first?" Evie asked, resisting the urge to roll her eyes again.
She thought Alexander was sometimes really naive.
"I already told my mother we can go back to her house for dinner later, and then we can go back to our house to see my mother," Alexander replied.
"Your plan is good. You just go back to your mother's house for a meal," Evie nodded.
Alexander burst out laughing, clearly in a great mood.
Evie laughed too.
When they got home, the family was together, which was rare and lively.
Plus, Alexander had called ahead to say he was bringing Evie back.
In the afternoon, Amelia went to the market and bought a lot of vegetables.
It was hard to have a good dinner tonight.
Because Evie hadn't eaten her mother's cooking in a while, she was almost drooling.
As soon as Amelia saw her, she took her upstairs, asked a lot of questions, and looked at her for a long time.
"Why is only your stomach bigger? Nothing else has changed," Amelia muttered.
"Mom, I'm pregnant. It would be strange if my stomach wasn't bigger," Evie said with a smile.
"I mean, you didn't gain any weight anywhere else, just your belly," Amelia clarified.
"That means the baby is absorbing all the nutrition well. He's taking everything I eat."
Amelia gave her youngest daughter a straight look.
"You're getting more and more cheeky. I don't know who you learned that from."
Evie immediately smiled.
If she wanted to know who she learned it from, it was definitely Alexander.
Sometimes he was so cheeky it made people laugh and cry.
"Alexander didn't hurt you, did he?" Amelia asked again.
"How could he, Mom! He was so worried about me that he asked me to go out as little as possible and not use my phone," Evie explained.
"That's true. The more advanced technology is, the more dangerous it can be sometimes."
"Especially with Alexander's position, it's hard to avoid someone having bad intentions and watching him all the time," Amelia nodded.
"Yes, so I'm very careful when I go out now. I'm afraid I'll be taken away. Your daughter is worth a lot now," Evie said with self-mockery.
"Nonsense! You got married right after graduation. You haven't created any value. Where would you be worth anything!"
"If it weren't for being Alexander's wife, I don't think you'd be worth a cent."
"It's because I'm Mrs. Sterling that I'm worth money," Evie laughed.
Amelia stared at her youngest daughter and smiled.
Victoria also came back.
After spending time with Victoria, Amelia went downstairs first to check if the soup was ready. It was almost time for dinner.
Victoria scanned Evie like a radar, then clicked her tongue.
"You've gained weight for nothing."
"Mom just said I'm not fat," Evie retorted with a smile.
"Your face isn't fat, but your stomach is a lot bigger."
"..." Evie was speechless again.
Then she grabbed her sister's arm and acted spoiled.
"Sister, haven't you missed me these past few days?"
"Miss you? What for?" Victoria rolled her eyes.
"No wonder, you must have been really worried about me."
"Don't be so sentimental. When did you develop such a bad habit? I'm busy right now, and I really don't have time to deal with your business."
"Sister, what are you busy with?"
"Busy falling in love," Victoria answered with dignity.
"Really? With whom?"
"Secret," Victoria teased.
"What's there to keep secret about this? You won't keep it a secret when you get married, will you?" Evie laughed.
"Secret marriages are very popular now. Maybe I'll join in the fun then."
"If Mom finds out, she'll scold you to death."
"Evie, can't you say something nice?" Victoria's eyes suddenly widened.
Evie smiled and continued asking.
"Sister, who are you in love with?"
"I won't tell you," Victoria deliberately tilted her head.
At that moment, Amelia called them downstairs for dinner.
"Let's go, dinner time."
"Sister, you haven't told me yet," Evie protested.
"My boyfriend isn't your boyfriend. What's the hurry?" Victoria replied angrily.
"I only have a husband, no boyfriend," Evie replied with a smile.
