Emily sighed on the other end of the line.

"I forgot you're several months pregnant now."

"Alas, we haven't seen each other in ages! I've been so swamped!"

"That just means you're doing great now!" Evie replied with a laugh.

"True. I closed another big deal yesterday!"

"Congratulations! You'll have to treat me to dinner for that, right?"

"Of course. If I don't sign the deal, I won't have the money. If I don't have the money, I can't treat you to dinner!" Emily chuckled.

"Now that's a solid chain of logic!" Evie echoed.

They both laughed together.

After a moment, Emily brought up Stella's marriage.

"Did Stella tell you?" Emily asked.

"Not yet. Is she ready to get married?" Evie asked, surprised.

"She already got the marriage license. I think they're having the banquet this month. I thought she'd informed you."

"Not yet."

"Maybe it's because you didn't tell her when you got married. She didn't accompany you then, so she feels awkward telling you now!" Emily said.

"She didn't understand my situation back then. I couldn't exactly explain it. It's totally different from her situation. Besides, we're good friends. We don't need to keep score like that."

"Yeah. Why don't you call her? She'll be too embarrassed to tell you otherwise!" Emily suggested.

"Good idea!" Evie agreed.

"You're stuck at home all day now. Aren't you bored?"

"A little bit!" Evie said with a laugh.

"If you have time this weekend, let's go shopping. Call me then."

"I'd rather wait until after the baby is born. Then I can really stroll around with you. Right now, carrying this belly, I get tired after a while." Evie said.

It wasn't convenient to go out now. She had to find an excuse to decline.

"Alright then. Focus on resting for now. After the baby is born, we'll go out and have fun!" Emily didn't insist. She replied with a smile.

"Okay!"

After chatting with Emily for a long time, Evie hung up. Finally, she called Stella.

"Stella, what have you been up to lately?"

"Nothing much. How about you?"

"I'm at home. A total shut-in!"

"You're a full-time wife now. Is your belly big yet?" Stella asked with a smile on the other end.

"It's a little big!" Evie looked down at her abdomen and admitted.

"I'm so jealous of you!" Stella said with emotion.

"Come on. It'll be your turn soon. There's nothing great about it. Want me to share it with you?" Evie said with a smile.

"It has nothing to do with my marriage. We might not even have a banquet. We're planning a destination wedding. That's why I didn't send out any invitations."

"Destination wedding?" Evie was surprised.

"Yeah. It's very trendy. I rarely get to catch up with the times!"

"It really is trendy."

"After you get back from your destination wedding, we should all have dinner together. Just our dorm mates."

"I think so too! I'll call you when I get back!"

"Alright. Congratulations first. I wish you a happy wedding and a hundred years of bliss."

After chatting with Stella, Evie sat on the sofa. She thought about her college days. It made her feel a little sad.

There were four girls in their dorm. Except for Emma, who dropped out unexpectedly, the other three had lived together for four years. They did almost everything together.

Now she and Stella were both married. Emma had disappeared without a trace. No one knew how she was doing. Emily was fighting for her career.

What made her sigh was that after graduation, their dorm seemed to have grown distant.

She learned almost everything about Stella through Emily.

And Emily was busy with work. Their relationship wasn't as close as before.

After graduation, everyone went their own way. Everyone had their own path to choose. Besides offering blessings, there seemed to be no other choice.

For example, she was the first person in the dorm, even in the whole class, to get married.

To outsiders, she had married into a wealthy family. She was Alexander Sterling's wife. Her happiness was self-evident.

But the truth was, every family had its own troubles. Financial wealth didn't mean spiritual fulfillment. Lately, because of the family property, she had been through a lot of trouble. These were things that upset her.

So everyone's path was different. As for whether it was suitable or not, you had to figure it out for yourself.

Because of her sister's warning, Evie had significantly reduced the number of times she went out. Except for necessary prenatal checkups and visits to her mother's house, she stayed home. She rarely went out.

Today, Evie went to the hospital for her prenatal checkup as usual.

Because she needed to have blood drawn, Lily had packed breakfast and brought it in a thermos. After the checkup, she could eat.

She had made an appointment for the checkup time. She also used the VIP service. So Evie didn't have to wait in line. When she arrived at the hospital at the appointed time, she began the checkup items one by one.

When it was time for the ultrasound, Evie didn't have a full bladder. She had to keep drinking water and walk around a bit. When she met the requirements, she could be examined again.

She didn't know if it was because the air was a bit stuffy, or because she was pregnant and easily agitated. After walking back and forth in the corridor, Evie thought it might be faster to take a walk in the small garden downstairs.

So she took the elevator with Lily and went downstairs.

Later, Lily needed to use the restroom. She was worried about leaving Evie alone.

Evie told her it was fine. She would wait for her here. She asked Lily to go to the restroom first.

Lily urged her a few more times before heading towards the restroom.

Evie was a little tired. She sat down on a stone bench to rest.

Just then, she heard someone talking behind the green bushes. The voice was very faint, but she could still make it out.

She turned to look. It was a person with their back to her, talking on the phone. She didn't pay much attention. She looked away, lowered her head, and fiddled with her phone.

Then she heard the man say,

"Are you sure she came here for a prenatal checkup this morning? Only one nanny followed? Don't worry. You won't be disappointed. When it's done, don't forget the balance..."

After the other party finished the call, the phone rang again. Then Evie heard the other party answer and say,

"No one? Are you blind? Just two women. You can't see them? You wait. She hasn't had the ultrasound yet. She has to do it. When she does, act more neatly. Don't let anyone find out!"

When Evie heard this, she suddenly had a bad feeling. She felt like the other party was talking about her. She didn't dare turn her head to see if the other party had left.

She quickly grabbed her bag and quietly walked in the other direction.

Just then, she vaguely heard the other party continue,

"I saw her nanny. The woman must be nearby—"

I saw her nanny.
